over 3 years later, this drum solo is still one of the most virtuosic, musical and mind-blowing feats to be accomplished by anyone in the 21st century... time to start transcribing!
Every time I come back and watch this it's like an adrenaline shot to the fucking eyeballs. This is one of the most exciting moments of my life, every single goddamn time I watch it.
I've watched this video at least twice a month for the last year. I will never get tired of it, the first line at 1:35 and the fill at 1:51 are the two coolest licks ever put to drums.
Just wanted to leave a short note. I was writing early childhood music curriculum this morning and was creatively stuck on a point. I came to this video for inspiration. After watching it twice, I am no longer stuck. Thank you Mark
it was 17 years ago sinc i saw this guy playng in banska stiavnica (slovakia) with avishai trio in old churche. still remember as one of the best live performances ever in my life. un f believable!
I have his Heernt cd, that has great music and killer drumming! But seeing him play is nothing like that, it's better!! Definitly one of my inspirations, alongside Matt Chamberlain.
@iialves I totally agree. What kind of person goes out of their way to give a video of people playing and sharing music a thumbs down? Oh, well. This video made me happy.
This guy *totally* reminds me of Keith Moon. His face, his posture, this expressive way of beating the crap out of each single part of his drumset. I really, really like that! :)
@vinnienickoloff90 Are we watching the same video? The arc of that solo was so unbelievably well crafted, not to mention his phrasing is nuts. Granted, he's not as clear with his phrasing as a drummer like max roach, but he's also going for a completely different sound. As far as self-control goes, all those ghost notes on the snare are perfectly in the grid. This guy has way more self-control than most drummers I've heard that are his age.
well, the cymbal crash is exactly 1 beat early if that's what you're referring to. It COULD be intentional, but he did look a little surprised after it. Not really important IMO...the energy is so insane and it doesnt phase anyone whatsoever, it just keeps building and getting progressively more insane
@TheAtariJenkins Whoops, I thought your comment was a negative one, saying that all he is doing is playing rudiments. Well we both agree then that he is awesome.
7/8, though I can't hear or feel it like that. I split it into 2 sections. The first has 16 beats, and the second has 12. I never actively count it when I'm listening or playing to it.
Wow.
17 years or so on, still my favourite drum solo on CZcams.
I reckon over 5ish years I've watched this 200+ times. Edit; it's 2022 now, still coming back
haha same here! never gets old
The same. I can't stop to watch it !!!
I've been returning to this since 2011. In that year I reckon I watched it 50+ times at least. So many phrases in it built into my psyche.
Lol yup, such an incredible solo.
Yes, its been since about 2008-9nish for me
I think this is the best drum solo ever performed.
I know right!? I still come back to this vid.
15 years after I first saw this video and it's still the best drum solo I've ever seen. Absolutely ridiculous
over 3 years later, this drum solo is still one of the most virtuosic, musical and mind-blowing feats to be accomplished by anyone in the 21st century... time to start transcribing!
I have come here every now and then for over 10 years. I like how raw and emotional this solo is.
it's absolutely overflowing with creativity and life-force
The way he understand the idea and how he develop it later, makes this solo something unique.
This is one of the most impressive drummers that I've discovered for years!!!
This is the most innovative and incredible drum solo I have ever seen. This man is brimming on a new frontier of percussion.
Every time I come back and watch this it's like an adrenaline shot to the fucking eyeballs. This is one of the most exciting moments of my life, every single goddamn time I watch it.
ten years later this solo is still fucking incredible
I'm listening it over and over again. Fantastic!
I've watched this video at least twice a month for the last year. I will never get tired of it, the first line at 1:35 and the fill at 1:51 are the two coolest licks ever put to drums.
Totally agree! 1.51 is so classy!
Just wanted to leave a short note. I was writing early childhood music curriculum this morning and was creatively stuck on a point. I came to this video for inspiration. After watching it twice, I am no longer stuck. Thank you Mark

@vinnienickoloff90 Are we watching the same video? The arc of that solo was so unbelievably well crafted, not to mention his phrasing is nuts. @jazzmessenger8 Yeah, I know. But this dude clearly put some time and effort into practicing them. Chops like that just don't fall from the sky.
Does anyone know the time signature ? Anyway thx for sharing and thanks Mark for you wonderful drums and the inspiration they provide!!!!
7/4
i wanna see someone do a drum cover to this
epic
I want to write an essay about this solo.
@vinnienickoloff90 He's in his early 30's. You should check out his playing with Avishai Cohen, his playing is always so tasteful
well, the cymbal crash is exactly 1 beat early if that's what you're referring to. It COULD be intentional, but he did look a little surprised after it. Not really important IMO...the energy is so insane and it doesnt phase anyone whatsoever, it just keeps building and getting progressively more insane
holy shit he plays very nice :D thats what i am talking about
it is most definitely avishai cohen (the trumpet player). there are two avishai's trumpet player and bass player
He's Jazz's reckoning.
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝👍❤️
Uhhhhh are those cross sticked blastbeats at 1:25???
@TheAtariJenkins Whoops, I thought your comment was a negative one, saying that all he is doing is playing rudiments. Well we both agree then that he is awesome.
What was that at 2:28!!!!!!!Good Golly
wow
this is furious.
I think he broke his hand 😂😂
@2:28 - 2:30.......OMFG!!!
definitely sliced a chunk of his hand right at the end. killen none the less.

mr guiliana is a god. he should be our next president. -ayub khan khattak
Hey, here's fodder for debate...who's better, him or Chris Dave?
Hahaha, best comment ever :)
Best, Sandemose
young guiliana
No. This was in reply to a person who made the comment,
"...Definitely one of my inspirations, alongside Matt Chamberlain."
Does anyone know what kind of shirt he's using?
Josh Stadlen -- haha, exactly... And which aftershave?
What time signature is this in?
He is way to good.
What is the time signature for this ?
7/8, though I can't hear or feel it like that. I split it into 2 sections. The first has 16 beats, and the second has 12. I never actively count it when I'm listening or playing to it.
damn son
Insane, like a friend said; " The new Buddy Rich"! He does by the way look a little like Steve Carell....
