    Bilstein 5100's all the way! I installed them on my 03 4Runner three years ago , after being a KYB Fan for a long time. I will never go back to anything else but Bilstein. I don't do off roading, just a freeway and normal streets, and with bilstein 5100's, it keeps the 4Runner planted well on the road, hardly any sway bounce, helps with gas mileage a bit on longer drives, it leveled the front real nice by moving the snap ring without any spacer, and kept the stock ride but a lot firmer and still comfy for the family... There is a reason why the Bilstein 5100's are very popular, and I just described just a few benefits of it for someone that is not a 4X4 kinda guy..

    • @jjung2005
      @jjung2005 Před 2 lety

      I'm thinking about installing 5100's on front, but worry about the ride quality and damaging from components. I used to have front spacers, but I removed it due to "skateboard" ride quality and damaged my lower ball-joints and lower control arms. Will the 5100's do the same to the front end in the long run?

    SR5 may not have a locking diff, but it does have an auto LSD that engages when you turn traction control off. I'm not a hardcore offroader but I do like to explore from time to time, haven't gotten stuck yet! Great vid.

    • @tmzz3609
      @tmzz3609 Před 2 lety +1

      The auto LSD is a great feature but it is not a locker. It only transfers power to the wheel that is not freespining by applying the brake on that wheel. You still only have one wheel getting power at any one time. Locker gives you both rear wheels getting powered.
      4x4 with open diffs is just a 2 wheel drive

I put the Bilstein 5100's all around and that made a huge difference, I kept the same ht because I don't off road, and didn't need the lift.

    • @DrivenCompanion
      @DrivenCompanion  Před 4 lety +1

      If its truly just for looks I'd just go with a spacer in the front and a block in the rear. That will maintain the stock ride but doesn't offer much in the way of added off-road ability. Some people are adamantly opposed to spacers but I had one on my truck for a few years and it was just fine. If you're willing to spend a bit more the Bilstein 5100s are a really good option too because they offer some added travel and reuse the existing front coils which saves some money. Low Range Offroad offers a nice setup: amzn.to/2B5KAGY

    Is the 2018 TRD Sport Toyota Tacoma capable to go off roading ?

    • @DrivenCompanion
      @DrivenCompanion  Před 5 lety +1

      Absolutely. The sport is every bit as capable as this SR5. You don't get a few features that come on the TRD OR and Pro models but its still very good.

    • @DrivenCompanion
      @DrivenCompanion  Před 5 lety

      These are the stock TRD Offroad wheels. Matt found a good deal on Craigslist and swapped out his SR5 wheels.

      This truck has done quite a bit more dirt driving than most Tacoma's on the road. Browse some more of my videos and you'll see it in action.
