CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Maclean brothers go fly fishing with their dad (Tom Skerritt), who shows them who has the most skill.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Robert Redford's lyrical direction sets the tone for this evocative adaptation of author Norman MacLean's memoir of his idyllic Montana youth. The MacLean family is presided over by the strict but encouraging Rev. MacLean (Tom Skerritt) and his loving wife (Brenda Blethyn). Craig Sheffer stars as the young Norman, the older son in his family, who takes his school work and writing a bit too seriously for Paul (Brad Pitt), the impetuous younger son, to take much stock in. Paul would rather have a good time, drink and play cards than get involved with academic study. Where Norman wants to be a college literature professor, Paul would prefer to stay in Montana all his life and wrangle some kind of job writing for a local newspaper. But, ironically, Paul is the better fly fisherman and in this way attains a sense of perfection. The film also details the MacLean boys' involvement with a colorful group of town's people -- including a young Indian woman Paul decides to date and the defiant Jessie (Emily Lloyd), whom Norman later marries.

I sure miss my Dad, Mom and my older Brother. Sucks getting old.
During my sobriety I had to fill my time with a hobby. I learned fly fishing and fly tying. I love it, and rainbow trout tastes so good.
Beautiful brother, just Beautiful
Hope sobriety, along with your new found hobby, is still treating you well.🙂
I love this. Good for you for fighting the good fight.
That's great to hear. Personally I love a beer on the river while letting the pool rest, but anyone new to flyfishing is a win for the sport.
How bout a drink?
"It's just that he's been particularly good to me" (He's so Funny I love that part)😂 1:43
What happened to me today has nothing to do with fishing but it made me think of this scene. I was skiing with my sons who I taught to ski. As I was watching them ski down through the powder snow I noticed that they also broke free from my instruction and have a form of skiing that is much better than mine. Proud dad moment today. By the way this is one of my all time favorite movies.
1:27-1:30 My Man’s really had to flex on them with the “My Fish 🐠 is Better that yours” didn’t even let it touch the Ground😂😂😂😂.
0:46 such a beautiful shot that shows a highly skilled fly fisherman.
This movie really is something wonderful isn't it?
I like it.
Reminds me of my dad. One of my favorite movies of all time 😉🥰
Roasting your fishing partners is a very old tradition.
I got back into fly fishing this year and it's been a blessing. I never been more at peace when I'm out there fishing
Hey there, where’s a good place to start? I’ve never fished before but my dream would be to fly fish Blackfoot while feeling like I’m knowing what I’m doing. I’ve never fly fished before. Also I hope you’re still fly fishing, thanks!
I ♥️ this movie! A true classic that I will watch over and over!!
No man under 30 has ever outfished his father. Great flick!
What if his father doesn't fish? 🤪
...of fathers and sons that fish/ed together!
Partly true!
I out fished my dad in 13
Mike Spencer then have them start calling you ‘mom.’
Out fished my "father" at 11.
Just that hes been particularly good to me....HAHA...great line...great movie
Caught my first fish in years today. Not only that. At 17 in, I believe it's the biggest fish I've ever caught.
That line at the end was the first thing that came to my mind.
A film about real Men and their Dad.
this movie is an all time classic
such a good scene!
This movie filled rivers, the following summer, with expensively outfitted couples ... stumbling through some of my favorite stretches of mountain-west trout streams.
Very True.
The Madison, Yellowstone,
Gallatin? Fished all three and Rams horn lake. I knew the guy in the film who played Black Jack.
Epic film. Absolutely love it!
Miss watching this movie
Frickin love this movie
Echos in the sound of silence....I keep falling in and out of love with you..it's still my favorite habit of all.
some of the sound effects from the fly fishing was used in Saving Private Ryan, for the bullets ripping through the water during the D-Day landing scene
“My father was very sure about certain matters pertaining to the universe. To him all good things-trout as well as eternal salvation-come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy.”
“In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing. We lived at the junction of great trout rivers in western Montana, and our father was a Presbyterian minister and a fly fisherman who tied his own flies and taught others. He told us about Christ's disciples being fishermen, and we were left to assume, as my brother and I did, that all first-class fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fishermen and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman.”
― Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It and Other Stories
Noah's Dove You are blessed
Just tears steaming from fine, fine writing. Knowing most of the story is
TRUE, my heart aches, yearns for more. Top 5 movie of all time.
Top 10 American short story as well. Americana at its best.
I actually like Norman's smaller fish the best. It has the prettiest speckles.
nah, pops had a brown trout...and it was bigger
my fav scene!
Love it ! I love this movie *** thank you ~ Jennie
I could never beat my old man either when i was young. At anything for that matter.
I watched that movie so many times. The country needs this movie right now.
We completely lost our way. Kids nowadays would swear against their parents:
"Where's my phone? What?!? No WiFi ?!? Are you f*cking serious?!??"
This movie has such a good message for life and I agree we are missing so much of what life is nowadays. Our kids would be much better off with less social media and more of a life like this.
@Jason Mullen I went fly fishing salmon with an old pal for 3 days back in August ; ) I didn't catch any but it wasn't the point. We talked about that movie quite a bit. Exactly what you said. Cheers man.
The Shadow Caster........
Looked like Brad (or the stunt double) took lessons from Lefty Kreh.
🎣
I would actually like to see them to release this movie a River runs through It, as a anniversary and play it in the movie theaters on the big screen. That would be great to do
This movie is such a great one and I can't believe how popular it came out to be over the years.
I came here because I was thinking of fishing.
FISH FOR MOSQUITOS? LOL!
My brother was out fishing everyone by about the age of 10.
BradPitt 🌷❤️ Is charming in this scena. Movie River Runs.
Waders must not have been invented yet.
Waders for what? Throw your river shoes on an hop in.
Película completa.. alguien la tiene?
Luke.5 - Jesus fishing with Simon Peter
[1] And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
[2] And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
[3] And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
[4] Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
[5] And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
[6] And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
[7] And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
[8] When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
[9] For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
[10] And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
[11] And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
God bless I needed this it makes me and my soul complete
Not wearing waders. At least they won’t fill up with water if they fall down.
Any fly fisherman here? How’s their form while they’re casting? I’m new to the art/sport and I’m curious.
The beginning while they're all together, the casting is ok at best. When paul goes off alone, the casting looks much better.(I assume it's a "stunt" double) he also strips in the slack line, which is a great habit to start. If you want to see some great casting instruction, look up lefty kreh, and pete kutzer.
@@mattpardy2826 - Thanks! I’ll check him out!
10 and 2 o'clock for starters. As you get better you can vary the angles.
