    • @mjrdainbramage
      @mjrdainbramage Před 22 dny +2

      Yeah, there are minimal differences at best, and most of them are because of the rounding between miles per hour, and kilometers per hour. In built-up areas in the UK, the speed limit is 48 km/h, and 112 km/h on motorways. Norwegian speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, and 110 km/h on motorways. In practice it is exactly the same, except with regard to single carriageways (roads with no physical separation of directions), where the UK is more prone to allow 96 km/h, while Norwegian limits are kept between 80 to 100 km/h based on the quality of the road (there will always be signs with the current speed limit). The UK also allows 96 km/h as the max limit for heavy load vehicles, while Norway has the limit at 80 km/h for heavy load vehicles (buses are allowed to go 100 km/h on motorways).
      In short the UK speed limits are practically the same as the Norwegian limits, so the experienced difference would primarily be decided by the amount of roads that are rated for different speed limits.

      @leifgunnartoth8070 Před 21 dnem +2

      @@MrMudbill For a road to have a higher speedlimit than 80, it must be classified as a motorway. In Norway we have two types. Type A is the typical motorway with several lanes each way, while type B can have one lane each way.
      80 is the national speedlimit, but not the highest, as motorways are the excemption to that rule...

    • @MrMudbill
      @MrMudbill Před 21 dnem +1

      @@leifgunnartoth8070 Didn't know they were classified as motorways, but I did know there were certain requirements for the roads to be allowed >80 limits. Without reading about it, I presume a primary requirement is acceptably wide lanes (wider than normal roads), and possibly some extra buffers on the sides, as well as clearing (of trees) to improve visibility. I always just kind of assumed that was implicit - generally the speed limit must be appropriate for the conditions, and these improve the conditions to allow for higher speeds.

You can get groceries online, makeup, ikea etc. Shipping can be hit and miss, some can arrive fast and some can get stuck for extra days or you don’t get the note to oick up the package from the post office before a day or two later. Packages arrive in grocery stores unless you get them in your mailbox or at the door. Some shops send their order out fast, but it’s not next day delivery because mail service is not fast.
    If it’s faster it’s 3 days mostly. But if you order on a thursday you have the weekend in between as theres nothing happening during the weekend.
    Package is in limbo somewhere then.
    Yes off course we know what amazon is. (Or I would think most do). I have bought from it once or twice, so I have an account. But they don’t always ship here, often not, plus theres taxes and shipping added so unless it’s something rare it’s not worth buying from there. It gets expensive.
    If you live in Oslo mail will come faster as it’s often sent from there or if sent from abroad the first stop for custom is in oslo or oslo area

    Norwegians know what Amazon is, we do not live under a rock, lol. You can order from other countries' Amazons (I've ordered from US, UK and German Amazon, possibly I used the Canadian one as well one time, but I don't remember if I was just browsing it or if I actually placed an order) as long as the seller there is willing to ship to your country. It's more costly since it's international shipping and such. It used to be way worse, since you also had to pay customs fees with the added value tax, but in recent years Amazon will add the tax directly onto your order, so you no longer have to endure customs fees (which saves you at least $15 per order), and the last time I ordered I actually got free international shipping (I believe it was some kind of special they were running at the time).

    Therefore, you also plan when they are going to the shop to buy food or anything else, such as alcohol. But you can also order home delivery of food, and pretty much everything else. We have plenty of online shops that can cover a wide range of products, but as they say, it tragically takes a while before you get the goods. But then again, planning helps. Have even ordered a new grill for the BBQ. Have ordered clothes and gifts online, also new tires for the car bought online. Just search for the product you want, and you will probably find it here in Norway too. BUT it costs to have the item delivered to your door, so it may be a good idea to check several pages for the product you are looking for, as some have free delivery, while others charge for delivery. But again, plan, and it will probably go well!!

    18:38 Packages may be delivered to your door - or a designated delivery spot - under the conditions that you have paid for that service, and that you take on any responsibilities for any damage to the package that may have been caused during transport.
    This means that, if you find any damage on the package, the delivery company is no longer liable for any damages found, and you are responsible for what happens next, whether you accept it as is without complaint, or you contact the seller/sender in hopes it can be replaced, or whatever.

    06:51 Norway has two main speed limits, 50kmh (31mph), and 80kmh (shy of 50mph).
    50kmh is the most common in densely populated areas, while 80kmh is most common in rural/sparsely populated areas.
    In Urban areas, you are often going between 30kmh (18.6mph), 40kmh (24.8mph), 50kmh (31mph), and 60kmh (37mph), though 30kmh and 50kmh are the most common of the four.
    On the vast majority of our freeways, the speed limit is 80kmh (50mph) and 90kmh (55.9mph), with only a very few places going up as high as to 110kmh (68mph), though it seems more newer freeways are being built to support such higher speed limits.

    Don't think we'd like Amazon at all, see other comments for reasoning. Also we have several different services for packages and letters, and the speed of delivery isnt as bad as she described. Mind you that valuables like a bank card would be sent securly and slower, this mainly from the sender in the origin country. When ordering online inside Norway it arrives usually 1 or 2 days after. Sometimes, when finishing the order early enough in the day, it may arrive that same evening.
    For beaches in Norway. A good temperature here is considered 16-20 degress Celsius during summer, which is fairly common in the Oslofiord during the summer months.

I doubt that that letter would have arrived to Norway from England any faster than from Norway to England. When sending things to other countries, postal services will often have a large sack they will wait until is filled a decent ways to the top before they send it off for shipping to its destination country, so how fast the abroad shipment is delivered depends a lot on how full the sack is before your shipment is added to the sack.

    We can order from Amazon in US and UK, so that is rubbish. We can buy anything online, even wine can be delivered to your home. We expect packets to arrive quickly, while communication is mostly digital. The delivery comes to the address, and delivery terms depend on the agreement. Oda is a much used service for food and other stuff delivery same day or the day after. Amazon couldn't compete so they skipped their plans here.

But, the farther out into the country you get, away from the cities, the sparser the houses close to the roads are, and in these cases the speed limit will usually be 60kmh (37mph), unless it is an area that has a relatively high population of kids, then the speed limit could be slower.

    Love your videos, Tyler! I think the main reason for us not having Amazon (just Prime on tv), is because of what that would do to the smaller companies in Norway. So many independant companies would go bankrupt because "everyone" would use Amazon. Norway really values small businesses, even to the extent that we can get financial help so one can survive whilst starting our own business. How common this actually is, I do not know 😅
    And I'll add - NO, norwegians certainly dont eat out all that much, a meal for 2 with one drink each can easily be $90. Even a meal at Mcdonalds will cost you about $30. She probably meant people coming here from other countries where they do go out all the time 😅
    And - yes Norway is expensive and yes we have good wages, but these days the prices are definitely increasing more than our wages, sadly. But overall most of us do OK. Dont think Ive ever heard of a person needing 2 jobs to survive, like many in the US, right? 😅

    It depends onthe location and some timing. Occasionally coastal beaches warm enough to bathe in, but usually youd want to pick a beach a litle bore inland, usually inside one of our fjords. Its more common to bathe in lakes instead.
    While it is true that super unhealthy things like alcohol and tobacco are expensive, it's not true that everything unhealthy is more expensive. Sugar, syrup, candy etc are quite cheap and affordable, and can also go on sales. It is illegal for a grocer to sell hard alcohol (iirc 10+%), but they do still sell beers, ciders and nonalcoholic alternatives. It is just illegal for a grocer to have alcohol and tobacco goods on sale. Which is why it stays expensive. However, it's simply untrue that everything unhealthy is expensive, often it can be expensive to choose to buy healthy foods too, whereas unhealthy foods can be quite cheap and often goes on sales.

    These are some weird points here... like... people going out to eat every other day? Never heard of that as something Norwegians do. I don't know anyone who does that.
    And if you're ordering/mailing something from within Norway, or Scandinavia, it usually takes like two or three work days at most. If you're ordering from elsewhere in Europe, like if you order from the UK, it is going to take a while to get here, because it's coming from another country. You can order from Amazon, they just don't have any warehouses in Norway, so you'll have to wait for it to ship from another country.
    Delivering to addresses I think has become more common, but like where my parents live didn't even have a street name or house number until like 10 years ago. That's what country living was like here until they did a big reform to give everyone a personal address. Before that you just wrote the name, place name, and postal code. Still the typical post arrangement is having several postboxes in a cluster, rather than one physically attached to each house, and putting your name on your postbox is pretty much necessary. Packages typically get delivered to a nearby post office, or grocery store with postal service, and you go pick them up there. You can pay extra to have them delivered to your door, but I'm not sure how common that is. I've never felt it necessary to try.
    There is the caveat of there being no postal service on saturday or sunday. I think delivery companies don't count those either. That's why delivery time is counted by work days, not all days.

      Sorry John but you are wrong here, only beer and drinks with alcohol level of 4.7 or so can be bought in grocery stores, and only until 8 pm (6pm on Saturdays). Stronger beer like Export and Juleøl, wines and sherry/port/madeira/cinzano etc. you only get in the national monopoly stores - Vinmonopolet. However, since this monopoly has been given the task of supplying the population with wine an spirits they do it well and carries a HUGE selection, as in enormous, from all corners of the world, they actually are the largest buyer of wine and spirits in Europe, and negotiates prices accordingly. So for high profile, rare qualities you can find bottles cheaper here than elsewhere in Europe. These quality bottles you usually have to order though from the monopoly, (like an Amazon) and have them shipped.
