  • Hunting with Randy Newberg takes you to central Montana for an elk hunting on a landlocked piece of BLM land, only accessible by air. Randy is joined by repeat guest, Bart May, as they chase big herds of elk around this small piece of public land.
    Even with the effort required to get here, Randy and Bart encounter other hunters, but such is the life of hunting public land. On the last day, even with terrible weather, a nice bull, broken and battle-worn, gives Randy the chance he has been working so hard to created.

    All your episodes are awesome, but you can definitely tell the difference between the older "old school" style videos and the newer realistic style. I'm so glad most hunters are no longer doing those reenactments haha.

    Thanks for all your great hunts you share with us. I really appreciate your ethical style. I have watched every episode you have from the beginning and not once did you compromise your standards even though you had opportunities to do so. Failure and frustration are so much apart of the hunt so thank you for showing the viewers the real side. Keep up the good work and check out the north west corner of SD sometime. We have great public hunting opportunities.

    • @Fresh_Tracks

      Thanks, Ben. If I couldn't handle failure, hunting would be a big problem for me. I'm pretty far below the mid-point of talent, so I expect a lot of frustrations and failures. Best of luck this season.

    Thank you for sharing your videos, they're so relateable to me as a regular guy hunter. Most shows are basically paid advertisements, but you show that regular guys can do it and not mortgage their children. People need to see that.
    I'd have shot that spike though! I'm a younger hunter though with a growing family that just about subsists on wild game and fish, it's hard for me to let sure groceries walk away. Thanks again for sharing, be safe out there!

Would love to try it someday... There is only private land hunting in Germany. I guess with a small country like Germany it would be a complete disaster if you had public hunting land... • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  Před 6 lety +6

      Funny how many tags I apply for, year after year, that I never draw. I've got maximum points in many states for many species. In some states I've applied for species many years in units where my odds were 50%, but I always end up in the wrong 50%. I suspect if folks applied for 60 tags per year, as I do to try get enough hunts for the TV show, they would probably draw a few.
      And yes, I am lucky. I always say I am the luckiest man that ever lived, though not because I might draw a limited entry elk tag once in a while. I am lucky to live in America, free to do what I love, and have the best family and friends a person could ask for.

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  Před 7 lety +3

      $2,000-$2,500 for all three, depending upon how many elk need to be hauled out. That is $600-800 per hunter. Not cheap, but not the $10,000 number most people tell me they think it would cost. And far cheaper than the $15K elk hunts that happen next door.

    • @rebelzuk
      @rebelzuk Před 7 lety +1

      That's much cheaper than I had assumed but still outta my budget sadly. Retired USAF E6 TSGT on fixed income...I just will have to stick to public land hunts here in Wyoming that I can access with my truck. I definitely don't disagree with you though, if it's within your means to access land this way, then by all means do so. Love your videos

  • @brandonmonday
    @brandonmonday Před 7 lety

    I drew the same tag as you did. I had 3 year of applying. I know guys who didn't draw that had 3 years as well!! So why did you get a tag? Equal opportunity is wondering why a guy with no points drew and a guy with 3 years of applying didn't . I guess equal opportunity one applies if your not famous. Any real feed back would be nice.

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  Před 7 lety +6

      You would be well served to do your research before making comments with the tone you did. Not sure why would you ask for "real feed back" from a supposed famous person you imply is somehow exempted from the "equal opportunity" tag drawing system; a system you seem to not understand. Below is how it works, and how you drew with 3 points and while some with 10 points may not have drawn.
      Montana uses a bonus point system, not a preference point system. Bonus points are like raffle tickets. The more you have, the better your chances, but no guarantee to anyone. Preference point systems give the tag to the person with the most points. Big difference in the two systems.
      I have the maximum bonus points for moose and sheep, yet every year hunters with 0, 1, 2, or far less points than I have end up with a tag. Why? Because even though they had fewer "raffle tickets" (bonus points) in the system, they lucked out and they got assigned a far lower random number than I did, giving them the tag.
      This can happen in states that use a bonus point system rather than a preference point system.

    • @brandonmonday
      @brandonmonday Před 7 lety +2

      Thank you for explaining, and I guess that I really didn't understand the difference from bonus and preference point. And yes I could of worded it better so it didn't feel like I was attacking you. I am sorry.
