Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

I have one used twice for oil changes. The rubber connectors that attach the hoses have hardened and leak. The kit to repair is the two rubber pieces and the 3 sections of hose for $25-40. I paid less than $100 for the entire pump. I am looking at better ways to repair. Good product while it lasted, but they get you on repair parts.
it's definitely a time saver, thanks for watching Roger
Thanks Dony,
Your help is always appreciated!
After seeing your tool review on the MityVac, I decided to get one. I just finished doing three oil changes on 3 snowblowers in my shop using the MityVac. I worked slick! Good tool review.
Works great on my 4 runner. The 2012 Sonata has a crankcase baffle that keeps hose from the pan bottom. Awesome for lawn equipment. Longer tubing from hdwr store for cars.
thanks for watching Tom!
Thanks Dony! Nice product information. I appreciate your effort, once again. Keep up the great work.
l have the old school version it looks like a metal gas can, works well,
Ran across this video researching this item. Time flys.
Well done covered all the key points.Think I am sold
I would still use it for a transmission fluid change. Just by being able to pull out 2 to 5 quarts you would make the job much cleaner and quicker by spilling very little fluid, if any, when you drop the pan. Differentials (with a single plug) and power steering pumps (flushing prior to an R&R) would be a great use too! Cool tool and demo!!
i agree with you, unfortunately some new engines don't have a drain plug
Thank you so much for this review! Debating between different oil extractors (cheaper price) but because of your video I'll be getting this!
Just bought one of these for doing oil changes on an Audi I just picked up. Great little tutorial, owners manual didn’t cover much such as which direction the valve has to be to evac or dispense. Much thanks
Glad it helped
Thank you! This is an excellent review. A must have item.
we got a couple of these at my work but there the version that works on compressed air
they do work good
I have 2 of the internal style. I had them for a very long time. They still work great. I use 1 for oils and the other for antifreeze and water. Fantastic products
Will it work if you line the container with trash bag? That way it would be easier to use between filling and draining things or using different fluids.
There really easy to drain. They have a pour spout on them. I just like having an designated one for anti- freeze. I reuse coolant on some jobs if the coolant tests good.
It's almost 9 years since you posted this video. Curious what you think of this model pump, how is it holding up to your frequent shop use? Great review video, thanks.
YES THEY DO
Great tool. Thanks for sharing Don
Great review. I bought one yesterday from Tooltopia for $85.90. Delivered today. Looking forward to easier and cleaner oil changes. Thanks Dony
I'm still using it and it still works great
Thanks Donny just ordered 1
Great video, thanks for making it. It would be nice if you could add a bit showing how to open it up to clean the inside, that we could get an idea of how hard or easy or time consuming it is to open it up. Thanks again for the nice video.
yes it does
I have 2 of the 4 uncle cheaper Amazon versions, both pump or forced air, 2 of the green harbor freight air ones, 2 of each in my front shop and my back shop, I'm picking 2 MV4201 plus up today for my mobile van, guy is going EV, and doesn't need em anymore, so great price on both, under 60 for both, I like the feature of push oil or extracting it just by a push of a button, I got 2 of them because one is going to be dedicated for filling oil, and one for extracting oil. Great video as always.
thanks for the info
some have a drain plug at the bottom of fill tube, but it's a pain and messy
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO DONYBOY73.!
I'm going to ask for one for Father's Day! Nice piece of equipment, and I can dispose of the used oil or fluids at my local village Dept. of Public Works depot.
Curious if you use this for an ATV, specifically a Honda Foreman. I don't think it would get all the way to the drain plug, but I figure I could back it up on ramps and suck most of the oil out. Thanks for the video. After 7 years, is the pump still holding up well?
Ok awesome I live in ottawa Ontario I'll look around
Thanks dony
i'll be posting a vid friday on honda lawnmowwer engine oil change
thank you sir
you would have to rinse with a cleaning solution, you're best to have a second pump and keep it only for clean fluids otherwise it's a pain to clean
for sure
i have the older design which has a smaller tank. I agree that it is a great tool.
Do you have to keep pumping it until the oil is all out or does it create a suction and continue draining after a few intial pumps?
Thanks for the video.
These evaluaters are really good for for chipper vacs since they're a little bit too heavy to flip over. And if you're chipper vac old enough to have drain plug in the bottom of the engine after remove quite a bit to get to it.
good idea
Hey Dony can this be used to extract gas and or diesel fuel. I would use it for extraction of gas from small engine. Thank you
pretty good although taking the plug out is always better
yes
yes it will, i'll change the title to "fluid" instead of oil
thanks for watching
Great tool review Dony.
I'm curious to know if this pump can be opened to thoroughly clean the reservoir. For example: If I were to evacuate dirty engine oil, then switched over to use it for pumping clean brake fluid in my master cylinder. Can it be wiped clean before use?
some transmissions do not have a drain plug
after use do you clean the hoses and how would you clean it?
Perfect for bleeding your brakes. I would buy two, One for extracting dirty oil and dispense clean oil.
nice! I will get one from amazon tomorrow
Hi great review. A question I have is once you pump a few times does it siphon on it's own?
can you use these to siphon old gas out of a small engine tank?
That is a great tool, especially for me. I spill oil everywhere!
can you use it on power steering fluid or brake fluid or gasoline?
I recently picked up an OEMTOOLS 24389. Would you use it with gasoline or two-cycle mix? Sure would be better than the turkey baster.
Does it adequately remove the oil from flat head tractor engines or do you still need to pull the plug. Sounds like it would be good on my boat.
will you make a video on how to dispense the oil using the pump ,(pumping the oil out with out removing the plug).
Give my fluid extractor idea a look. I use a vacuum pump which is very versatile and powerful. Interested in knowing your thoughts. I love it and it costs about the same as a Mityvac.
Great video as usual. I had my eyes on this mity vac for a while now and everyone says that gas is not accepted by this device because it damages it or something similar which is weird because the same company makes the orange siphon pump that is known to be used and made for gas I just don't see the difference in materials were the more expensive evacuator is some how "allergic" to gas and it's $3 to $10 brother is not. the evac seems to be made stronger so that is why i am confused on gas use.
Does Mightvac make something similar to that which runs off of compressed air as opposed to a hand pump?
I have one that works perfect. I replaced the rubber fittings with silicone ones which last a lifetime. Works great too.
Where did u get the silicone ones
Nice device ... had a small one unlike this an the tube got stuck in the dipstick , ouch .... too bad it cannot be hooked up to a compressor ? great vid Doc TY
How do you remove the large tube from the fitting attached to the tank?
any auto parts store or online
yes a must have tool!
any automotive store or online
I have to look at the model number. The one I have in my shop is configured the same, but It works on shop air, ...No pump.. Either way..Awesome tool.
it continues after a few initial pumps
so im not crazy, hondas really dont have drain plugs! i usually just unbolt the engine from the deck and tip it to drain the oil. this would certainly save time. great video dony
How do you clean out the hoses?
I like that item.
Definitely a desirable tool save time money rather than dealing with old rotten fuel
Looks like it will save time cleaning the garage floor from spills.
Great video
Amen to that!
Bought me one a few weeks ago gonna try it out soon. Looks fairly easy.
did ya try it out yet?
@@Rampant_Colt I just got one and tried it out on the toilet (for testing only). Ran water from commode to extractor and back a few times and did well.
Dony,
Thanks for all the awesome videos. Have you ever looked into this as an oil extractor:
pela oil extractor
i been using it for years. I noticed in your video it seemed a little hard to remove the cap seal so you can pour out the old oil.
The pela's come with a sprout.
The plastic tube does not melt?
thanks for watching!
Can u get these with elec pump
Hi what solution is best to clean out the the pump system to not cross contaminate with different oil types and other fluids..
not sure, best to contact manufacturer
it would be nice if you could air too.
i think so, i know they make a pneumatic one
what's the outside diameter of the smaller hose?
would have loved to see it EVACUATE the dirty oil into a bottle or something....just to see how well it does that job.
nice good info
handy tool.
Where would you purchase one of these?
we use somthing like this to pump oil out of sterndrive boats when we winteriz them
What about the MityVac 7400? This MityVac 7201 has an EXTERNAL pump outside of the reservoir, I am wondering if more connections will pose more problems.
no problems, still using almost 6 years later
good stuff....nice hat
You did not mention gas, will it suck old gas out of a generator?
how can i identify the year on a briggs quantam lawnmower engine
yes but I would stay away from gas unless you empty it right away
check amazon or napa
Cool man will get one when i buy my vw tdi wagon.
is the only way to drain the oil from Honda's engines is to use the top dipstick?
So in short does anyone truly tried gas in the mitvac evacuator plus and if so had any issues because my guess would just be maybe if it was a high ethanol content, because when you think about it brake fluid can be acidic so let me know what you guys think.
Hey Dony! i’ve been thinking about purchasing a MITYVAC extractor and I was wondering how your experience has been with the unit since you purchased it. I’ve been reading that there is some problem with the seals to fail after a while which causes the unit to spray oil all over. I read these reviews on Amazon.
Thanks for your help!
well this one in video lasted 8 years before it did that so i replaced it with a new one, i'm happy with it. don't use it to extract gas it may harm the seals prematurely
I think if you extracted hot oil it could cause a the seals to fail.
How do you clean the reservoir? Can you open it or do you use a solvent? If so what solvent?
It's plastic. You'll destroy it with solvents and it's not meant to be opened up even though the top cap can come off with a #2 Phillips and 8mm wrench for the nuts. I would not recommend using the same unit for removing fluids and dispensing fluids. Too much trouble to remove all of the hardware to open and also a waste of time and money to clean out. Mityvac says it can only handle oils, brake fluid and coolant. Anything else including gasoline will damage it (plastic parts and rubber seals) and they won't warranty it.
