This is a terrific little game, one that I enjoy tremendously. Lincoln is right that you really do have to play multiple games in one sitting for it to get its hooks into you. Once you know the cards and the synergies this game soars. One of my favourite fillers, right up there with For Sale. Happy to see it played by two of my favourite you tube gaming pairings! Thanks..
the generic fantasy theming will put off a large amount of people imho
@@atomiccritter6492 That may very well be true but, then, those people will be missing out in one of the most entertaining fillers around. It’s just a fun little game, nothing more nothing less, but when you pull off one of the tough combos it’s so thrilling.

At 38:18 Monique could've made the mirage any kind of flame so the smoke wouldn't have been blanked.
The Mirage and Shapeshifter can copy the name and suit (but not anything else) of any of the cards in the game which have the correct suit depending on if you have the mirage or shapeshifter.
The doppelganger is the one that can only copy something in your hand, but it also copies the base strength and penalty (but not bonus).

I couldn’t find this anywhere, could you tell me if ‘any cards in the game’ includes the unrevealed ones in the deck and ones in your opponent’s hands?
@@shanpengishere yes, “in the game” can be any card, even unrevealed and in your opponents hands. That’s the wording of shapeshifter and mirage. Doppelganger says “can copy any card” but doesn’t say “in the game” so it’s only something in your hand. The designer even said the erratta for Doppelgangar should say “can copy any card in your hand”.

Fantasy Realms hits really well at our place, highly recommended...unless your gaming group only wants to play 4-6 hour Lacerda games.
Bruce is an amazing (yet under recognized) game designer.

man imagine if lincoln had gotten the chance to replace the basilisk with the bell tower... 6 cards straight and active candle - 200 point combo without taking into account anything else

What a fun episode! I've been looking at this game, but hadn't made up my mind, but you guys have almost guaranteed it a place in my little games collection.
And the two guests were excellent! I've watched some of Monique and Naveen's channel, but never subscribed to it, but this was so much fun, I'm going to do that right now!
One quick question about the game. In the example Monique was showing at the start of the game, she has a Dwarf Army which had a penalty of -2 for every other Army. She had another card which removed the word Army from all penalties; so does that mean the -2 per Army on the Dwarf Army, would no longer count?

Yes, exactly what you said would happen: the penalty would be ignored in that scenario.

I dont think this game is suited for a playthrough on youtube though 😁 the viewers cant see whats in everybodys hands and for me that takes away the fun of a playthrough. But its nice to see how this game plays, its a kenner Spiel nominee so i was curious whats it all about 👍
At 6:27 Naveen says that you can't take a card from the discard and put it back down, but there is nothing in the rules that says you can't. Either way, Before You Play is one of my favorite channels!
I didn't realize Naveen and Monique did a Game Night with you guys! I've been subscribed to them for awhile as well. Wow. Interesting game to pull out with your friends. Lovely episode, now I need to loom out for this game 😅😂.

Dave is far far better probably THE best person of rules explanations online. I suspect you were a little swayed by Moniques prettiness
They are both fantastic but Dave has the edge. He is really so good especially when you recognise that he teaches games he’s never played sometimes.

At 18:21, if Wildfire blanks all cards except for the suits and cards listed, wouldn't that also blank the wild cards? Wilds aren't listed as exceptions.

It's on Amazon for about $18. Just got myself a copy and we played four times in-a-row. Love it!

@Wizzykin Different strokes I guess, Fantasy Realms hit's the table fairly regularly at ours. Plus it's HIGHLY portable so it goes on the road frequently as well.
Couldn't Nikki have gotten more points in the first round by taking the 15 Point Army card? it would have been 15 Points and her Leader would have given a 15 point Bonus for that, netting her 13 more points and bringing her to a total of 227.

I always appreciate the uploads of rules and playthroughs...despite being a fan of card games and short games this just didnt do it for me at all..oh well
How do you play 2 this with 2 players
You draft off the top of the deck or from the leftover discarded cards from the other player. Match ends when there's a certain number of cards in the discarded area.
You start with no cards. IIRC you then take two of the top of the deck and discard one, until you have seven cards in hand. Then you both continue taking one card and discarding one until there are 12(?) discards out. Something like that. It works well and I really enjoy the two player game as well as larger player counts.

A rather over-complicated scoring system for such a quick game. Playing a quick card game, I think you shouldn't have to have an app in order to calculate your points.

you don't need the app. I was pausing the video and scoring the hands manually. It's definitely a bit of math, but not hard to do.
This game looks fun but is ruined by the terrible, cheap illustrations. Please hire a real freelance illustrator to collaborate with/share royalties instead of using a cheap studio that churns out generic comicbook art.
That game just came to germany and is nominated for the Kennerspiel des Jahres and the box has a different cover art, but I do not know, if they changed the cards too. You might have a look at some german YT channels that show the game
The cover art in the new edition is the art on the back of the box from the previous edition. I don’t think much was changed inside the box.
