Even before I started using a mobility scooter I was aware of the rules. I always said the companies that hire them out won’t turn custom away if someone has the money. I have had to start using a Mobility Scooter over the last year but as my wife in her 80’s still walks I go at her speed it just means we can still get about together. What I have noticed a lot though when sat on the balcony is Mobility Scooters coming past in the road, but going the wrong way up one way streets now this is not only dangerous for the person on the Scooter but for the other road users using the roads properly.
Just so you know…… No person is obligated to show papers to anyone about their medical condition NOR do anyone need to carry medical papers describing their health issues which is PRIVATE!!!!! I use a wheelchair and if I’m limited to a certain pace…. Everyone is limited to that same pace. If you can walk faster than the stated pace, that means I can go equal to that pace.
This policy will not stand up in court if it does not protect everyone and their rights equally. You may have a problem with people with non mobility issues , and solving it may be complicated because of privacy rights. But that’s the challenge you must overcome. The rights of the people most in need will NOT be violated because companies are creating a nuisance issue.
Respecting my rights as a human is NOT your choice! My wheelchair is for mobility just as is someone’s legs are used for mobility in this example.
Here is the problem! At what pace should the walking public be limited to? Whatever the answer is, it’s for EVERYONE!
We don't talk about wheelchair, we talk about mobility scooters, if its used due to mobility issues, obviously they won't give you a fine or forbid using it, but you'll still need to go within the speed limit, as well as through allowed areas&streets
The rule for mobility scooters is over 55 (dont need to have a medical need) or can show blue badge or doctors letter. A friend of mine runs one of the Mobility scooter business's and refuses to hire to anyone who cannot prove the need for one.. Trouble here is granny hires one and then lets her grandkids use it.. Thats what the fines will do.

My wife is disabled and always used a mobility scooter in Benidorm but I used to get irritated by young fit people (especially when drinking) racing about or groups like hen parties all parking outside bars and clubs when they did not need to use them, my wife has had a lot of comments in the past from people who get fed up with these scooters.

Just got back from this area 24th July, I didn’t find the mobility scooters to be an issue, the streets full of vile drunk chavs is not so nice, unfortunately they appear to be mostly English and I can see why most of the world doesn’t like us, it’s embarrassing to be English,never again
I agree with you I used to go to Spain back in the 1970’s for holidays . We used to drink more & let ourselves go ,but we had limits & never behaved in the chav like manner they do now . Also people used to drink alcohol while waiting for delayed flights ,but you never saw any rowdy chav behaviour or abuse towards other passengers or cabin crew aboard aircraft . The rot really started to set in around when they started selling off dirt cheap flights ,this attracted the chav element as opposed to the decent working class holiday makers . Maybe if they clamp down on the chavs & tacky sports bars ,they will clean the resorts up & attract the type of holiday makers that know how to conduct themselves correctly whilst enjoying their holidays .. If that happens I could be tempted to return to Spanish resorts for my holidays abroad

I agree with the authorities. Mobility scooters should be for those with mobility issues not those who are too lazy to walk to their destination.

Anna. What has been in our newspaper is that we have to prove coming from uk that we have enough money (€85 per day) to stay. Is this true can you find out please
i have copd and struggle walking and i am only 51 and my doctor will NOT issue a letter to confirm this so guessing i wont be holidaying in benidorm till im 55 then
If they see you struggle walking or you explain them, i don't think it's gonna be the issue, they're more concentrate on stopping those who are teens or look like a lot less age, and go with a fast speed

Oh more measures to raise taxes from scooters. Put tourists off they holiday elsewhere imo. Just put an age limit on them or let them offer proof of age and disability.
Bravo and thank you for the information. This lady has fabulous English, I thought her accent suggested that she might be from Eastern Europe but I think she maybe Spanish and perhaps her English has an American influence. I only wish I had her command of English in French, German and Spanish.

Hello lovely, just returned from Benidorm this 13th of July, and for the first time ever I did not enjoy being away from the U.K lol. I absolutely love Spain and the Spanish way of life, and for the past near 30 years of holidaying with young kids who have now left home, it’s just paradise. This year with the heat and the lack of sleep aaggghhhh was just far to much, and being older, it was not the great experience that we normally experience. But it’s what it is. I must admit I’m in my early 60s and thankfully for now, I’m not needing any help mobility with the scooters etc, so I seriously never noticed a problem with ppl in the scooters passing along . They have payed for their holidays and their scooters, so whats the big deal. Fortunately for my husband and I, we were able to get the bus to places, but on a couple of occasions when we were out on an evening into town, my husband wasn’t quick enough to get the money out for the driver, well his arms went up in the air ( the driver ) . That happend twice , on a bus for us. and we’re not kids lol . But still love Benni and will be back at the end of the summer. 👌😬🥴🤗
This should apply in UK as well there are a lot of people who use mobility scooters that dont need them, i actually know a couple that have 2, he has 1 because she has one, i use a power wheelchair, i am disabled and have no choice.

Me an my daughter are coming to benidorm on the 2 nd august .an she asked if we could hire a scooter one of the days , I said no way , we will get in trouble .and leave them for those that need them .
If you are in the age group, you can rent it, and she can get smth else, there are also a lot of fun electric things to move around, especially in monkeyrent

Depends on season and length of rental, they usually ask for a small deposit, and then for day it's like 15-25€

They should have a painted area just for scooters .and also scooter washes so that the spanish can rinse more money out of the british.or maybe toll bridges and shaded area charges.where does it end people.
From a UK pensioners prospective, we can only stay for 3 months in Spain within a 180 day period........or have I got that wrong?

We too had 40 degrees this week but fortunately I work in air conditioned office but I would not want to work outside in that heat!
On the subject of scooters, yes if you are disabled then you should be allowed to use them anywhere. We have orange badges in UK, show them then its fine. A lot of people hire them because they are lazy... WALK! GET SOME EXERCISE! These people should not be allowed to hire them. They are a menace and give truly disabled people who actually need them, a bad name.

Yes scooters are a nuisance if they do not need them, they are nick named the "Benidorm Taxi"....On your video did notice around 15:07 all the unattended parasols & deck chairs along the waters edge, was this not something which was meant to be stopped a few years ago. Its the beach equivalent of a towel on a sunbed at the hotels.
Spent 2 weeks in benidorm 2 weeks ago and the wife managed to catch Covid for the first time at the beginning of the second week of the holiday, which curtailed the second week of our visit to benidorm..😷

@@BenidormbyAna HI Ana, thank you for asking about wife's health, yes she has made a full recovery, it did limit our second week in Benidorm, however she is going to make it up by returning in September with her sister for a girls week.....😃
But it still isn't enforced by PLBND or CNP. Mobility Scooters still on the walkways zooming and giving zero thought to pedestrians.

Too many people who claim to be disabled, are in fact simply fat. Because of their life choices, they think they should get special treatment and have a sense of entitlement.
Mobility scooters present a hazard to other pedestrians and should be strictly controlled as to speed and use. The law does not have to allow mobility scooters to go as fast as somebody can walk, but can keep it at a speed that is safe. A normal person may be able to walk at a faster pace and still be able to avoid last minute collisions. Also the normal person, if he runs into somebody, is himself soft, made of flesh. The problem with mobility scooters is that they are hard material and the person driving them may not be able to respond as quickly as somebody walking fast. For that reason, we should keep the speed of these mechanical devices down to a slow pace.
HEY Spain - your costs are going up and so is food, beer, taxis etc, The Brits are going elsewhere to save money. Your tourism industry is diminishing, your getting TOO EXPENSIVE !!!!!
Everything is getting too expensive, even for people who live here, its the cost of living, but not only in spain, if you think it's the only country rising prices you couldn't be more wrong
