The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I’m 82, and love this man’s voice.
This 74 year old woman still loves Neil Diamond as much as when I saw him as a teenager.
Neil is, and always has been, THE MAN! I don’t understand how anyone could not like his music. Its all timeless.
Damned right.
Cause people don't always recognize talent. Amazing talent.
Totally agree may the fair winds blow on ur back and the sun shine on ur face , best wishes from 🇮🇪
This is the most amazing quality for 50+ years ago. What kind of technology saved this episode in such clarity? Both the audio and video was immaculate.
you should see the music video for paperback writer by the beatles
This source which came from the master tape has been kept in a climate controlled vault for 50 years
All those videos were recorded on film, it can be easily scanned up to 4K quality with modern technology.
@@darthgroover No such thing as "recorded on film." (It's recorded on tape, or filmed . . . on film.) This was recorded on 2-inch quad color analog videotape. Digitally remastered and restored recently, it does indeed look and sound impressive. But the color is a little off . . .
Hey American, have you seen "The Wizard of Oz"? "Gone With the Wind"? Filmed over eighty years ago, they both look and sound like they were made yesterday, because the original camera negatives have yielded fantastic results thanks to talented technicians who digitally restored and remastered the original material, which fortunately was properly preserved. It's a myth to think that only new stuff looks good. And there's stuff made twenty or ten years ago that looks like crap today because it wasn't properly preserved.
He looks gorgeous, and with that voice...I don't remember seeing him on a TV show at that time. No wonder we all loved his voice.
He was on an episode of Mannix that year. Nightclub scene. He played himself singing.
Neil Diamond is a fine wine.
I remember seeing him on the Ed Sullivan show
He is a musical icon...his music will live long after him.
He is a great looking man!
He just sings the song beautifully and with heart, no theatrics. We were a different society then. I miss it.
I missed that too, today is only fancy lights and a lot of noise, they don't sing like before
True
Society back then was terrible what are u talking about
yes jack we thought different society would get better ,but it didnt,,,it became more more corrupt in all facets..what a genius neil is was
You hit the nail on the head we can even understand the words effortless Neil incredible
They do not make music like this anymore, never gets old listening to Neil.

He had/has it all, no more to be said.
Yes, of course!!!!!!
He is very good!
Same for my family. Every Sunday night, The Ed Sullivan Show. Where has this time gone? Nov of 1969. Grammar school for me as well. Love Sweet Caroline when Neil sings, so heartwarming!!

Given its popularity today at games I'm sure many would be surprised it never reached number one. But then, 1969 was one of the best pop song years ever and every new song seemed better than the one that came before it. Those of us that experienced it then are grateful to have been there.
I can be anywhere and a song from this year will play and the memories just bring me back
My love and I wandered into a wedding reception at the hotel we were stay at in Ireland! We sat in a corner near the two guitarists who were playing at the wedding. I guess they recognized our Boston accents, because before we knew it they began to play and sing sweet Caroline. The bride,s mum came over and we were great friends immediately. One of my happiest memories of our travels around the world.
Boy you ain't kidding. Song
You were truly blessed to be of the that generation
The old days were the best!!

What a beautiful song! It's timeless.

When we was so young..now we aren,t so young but his voice still is. Long life to Mr Diamond.
The song that touched the hearts of millions of fans all over the world...including me....and sung by the great singer Neil Diamond....the song that will never die....luv ya, Neil...
I’m a 1991 baby. This song is well before my time. But I do miss the simpler times, before excessive use of social media. I believe my generation are the very last to experience the true glorious days... we didn’t get enough of it! I’d love to have been born in the 50s/60s/70s... you truly were a blessed generation x
I was born in '57 & yes, we were blessed with some great moments in time :) Neil was one of my mom's favorites!
you're not wrong there I was born in the 70s and absolutely love it I loved those years of growing up
Well I was born in the '80s
Hi Lady Jaffa,
I was born in the 60's, I can only remember back as far as 1966. Yes, we were a blessed generation. Children of the greatest generation. We saw the last of the best things, the last of the age of innocence, the end of Camelot. I wish the world would have stayed the same so that future generations could have seen it too. But the only guarantees in life are: death, taxes, and that change is inevitable. My late husband and I often talked about the changes happening around us, and none of them for the better, just for greed. My husband was born in the 50's, he saw even more change than I did.
I'm sorry you missed out.
Keep a journal, take pictures, you never know, future generations may call your lifetime the end of the good times.
Take care, stay safe, have a nice day.
👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊
Yes we were blessed. Alot of love and soul back in the day. I think political correctness, social media, etc has taken away many peoples confidence, calmness...you are always being watched, judged criticized on everything you say and do. Causes alot of stress and kills your spirit
Probably one of the best singing voices ever.
AMEN. He was born with a masterful voice and gifted us with it.
Com certeza a vos dele é muito linda
yep he's nice
Happy 83rd Birthday, Neil Diamond!!
My mom totally loved this man's songs and she played his music on the car radio all the time. These songs are kind of ingrained into my head because of that.
Me, too!!! Those childhood car rides. Loved those days. Wish they came back !!!
Lol my dad was the same bless him I think he thought he could sing like him
My mom loved Neil Diamond too! He’s likely a feature of many a Gen Xer’s childhood! 😂
Anyone else in 2020 listening to this masterpiece??

ME TOO
Yup me, God where does the time go. Seems like just yesterday. I grew up in Brooklyn and lived in an apartment a few doors down from where he lived. I had a huge crush on him. I'd go into his fathers store just to talk to him. I was 10 years younger. Loved him then, and love him now.
Oooh, yeah!!!
Oh yes
1969 at the memory! I was 15 years old, and now 66 years old. And I remember it like always.
Era a doce Carolina.
Eu tenho a mesma idade sua .
Same here! I love watching Neil. His sounds make me feel good.
My second major crush.
He was so good looking.
I had just graduated a high school in May of 69. Greatest song of the summer. Brings back so many good memories.
Now sung at many sporting occaisions around the World. Thank you Neil for making Millions of people Happy.
Definitely great stadium music
Neil Diamond is my favorite singer since I was in Elmentary Grade and I'm now 59 years old . I have a CD in my car with Neil Diamond's songs and play while I'm driving to work and I listen his songs on my lunchbreak.. Also I always pick to sing "Sweet Caroline " everytime we have a Karaoke /Videoke time at home.
Ever notice in commercials they almost always use music from back in the day? It's because it's just plain better.
This guy still sells out a concert faster than ANY new star. Someone please bring back wholesome
Saw this when I was Five years old, when I heard his voice , I knew he would be one of the Greatest Singer/Songwriters ever, Beating out even Elvis. While others were listening to Hard Rock, I was listening to Neil Diamond , The Moody Blues and any Easy Listening music. It's true that Music Can Affect your Emotions and Blood pressure. The Music today seems to promote anger more than any Music over the years!!!!
No autotune, no saggy pants, no vulgarity and still managed to entertain. Good times.

Not really one of my favourite Neil songs, to be honest. However, it has become a Goddam anthem.
Com certeza ESSA MÚSICA É MUITA LINDA EU AMO ESSA MÚSICA 🌻💤🌻
On a balmy summer night I could listen to this over and over
I remember listening to his music in my uncles car. Now on my 50’s,these tunes always take me back to those times. I recently saw the broadway play based on his life and when the actor, who was amazing, sang this song, the whole audience got on their feet and sang along. Especially, the boom, boom, boom part. It was wonderful to see people smiling at one another and singing together despite political party, religion or color of your skin. Music can truly be magical.
This is the song that gets more popular as time goes by. Younger generation enjoys this song in the stadium and other public events.
When I was 5 (in 1972) my aunt adored Neil Diamond. Now I can see why.
Neil not only sings gorgeous but he's even more handsome, good looking man of the times.
Thank you so much for your comment and continues support I appreciate it, God Bless you and stay safe.
I never appreciated just how striking he has always been. Just exquisite.
When I look at the world today I cannot help but be so happy to have been born way back in the early 1960s in the once great UK.
I grew up with the great british invasion wave 1 (60s) and 2 (80's) and an influx of the sounds of American music which were hits in the UK it was an electric time...
I'm one of the many lucky people who grew up in the 60s & 70s listening to great music.
I am 76 years old and the music keeps me alive.
I listen music in different languages.
Cool man

Handsome man with wholesome voice

One of THE BEST SONGWRITERS, LYRICISTS, EMOTIONAL PERFORMANCERS of all time!!
He was a part of my youth we're exactly 10 years difference He is 10 years older to the day January 24th we used to listen to him in Everett Washington at the lake as teens and we all feel in love with him they'll never be another Neil Diamond He's the best most talented most handsome most humble genuine nice person
Those eyes, that voice, that soul. Hands down, sexier than Tom Jones or others in his day. He is the whole package.
He is so gorgeous.
Review Tom Jones' first Ed Sullivan appearance in 1965 where he sings "It's Not Unusual" then review his "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" on BBC in 1967. Both in black and white. Tell me who has a more powerful, refined voice, stage presence and control. Now look at "This is Tom Jones" TV show -- did Neil dance like that? Nope. And TJ is now 81 years old, still relevant and a judge on The Voice UK.
i love both! but i do like Tom more

The harmonious blend of Sweet music and golden voice is what delivers a top hit. D u agree ? And truly, this is one of them.
Neil Diamond: OUTSTANDING PERFORMER!!!!
No need for an amplifier with that voice. Makes my stereo sound like a dream.
except he is actually using a mic which will be channelled through an amp.
When the world was a better place. I miss those times. Memories are about all that’s left
Nostalgia is the opium of the escapist. Please don’t take no offence. Just said it. I don’t always cherish past; for me present is the clock of life; every moment becomes past with its passing - so enjoy every moment of now and not pine for what’s gone.

Every Sunday night at 8 PM Mountain, Ed Sullivan had the greatest "shew" on the tube.
Summer 1970 in Germany, this song poured out from every hospitality establishment, every balcony, every vehicle.
In Dec 1974 at Prince Charles Hospital Brisbane, a nurse played her favourite album and got patients recovering from chest operations humming along. Talk about good vibes! What a feast!

I was dating a girl in high school and her family moved across country and we led seperate lives, but man I still think of her like it was yesterday.

In the midst of the storm
I cannot see the sun right now
For the clouds are in my way
I cannot hear the song from the birds
a sign of a brand new day
I'm in the midst of the storm
A foreign place to be
A place where you cannot turn around
and a place where you cannot see
All you have is your faith
and you pray for it to grow
for only in the storms of life
is there one to comfort your soul
In the storms of life
Is where a man is truly made we're souls are being perfected, restored and saved.
I will wait on you o Lord
and know that you are near
I won't trust in what I see ahead but only what I hear
And I hear you're still small voice
Telling me to be calm
To rest assured in your peace and be still. 🙏😇🏳️🌈
CBS Television; audio genius; live Neil Diamond, live audience, live orchestra, live announcing, live back-up singers, Sunday night November 30, 1969. How did they accomplish that fifty-two years ago. They can't come close to doing that today. Somebody should let the new people know their sound work stinks. This is the ultimate example of the meaning "when it all comes together".
I saw him perform in Atlanta during his 50th anniversary tour. He looked great and we all stood and sang with him. It was awesome to see he still has charisma! ☺
Same when he came to Denver! One of the best concerts I’ve seen in years! We all stood and sang along!
I saw him in Salt Lake City in my younger days and then several times in Denver with my husband. He is so great to listen to. I feel bad he is older and sick now, although he has had a wonderful life in entertainment. Truly a wonderful talent.
I saw him in Denver. A powerful voice like Elvis. He sounded better in person and very handsome. Gave me chills.
Sullivan called him over because he knew Neil was about to become huge. He knew it.
Before I was born, my mummy absolutely loved Neil Diamond's singing- today I am continuing that liking (in her absence).
He had a fabulous voice . Turns back so many years listening to this …..👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Answer: the song Sweet Caroline came out in 1969 and Neil Diamond Sang the song “Sweet Caroline” on his first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in 1969
Simple, beautiful, and nostalgic song from one of the best singers and composers at the time and always. Thanks Neil Diamond for creating this inspiring masterpiece with a very special personal touch.
It’s one of the truly great classics that continues to grow on me over the years.
Saw him 5 times in concert. What incredible shows. Never another creative genius like him.
He is the only singer and song writer that I can listen to for days and hours and never feel tired or bored
Neil Diamond really was the last of the great torch singers. Irony is that he also mastered songwriting as well as torch singing. Pretty amazing achievement, though he did spend years getting great at it.
He and Barbra graduated from Erasmus Hall the year After I did! And we're still here . . .
It's funny that when he sings the word Strong it is probably the weakest word he sings throughout the whole darn song.
