good work again ! i ran 1/5th stuff since 1 year only and quickly learned : 8s is limited/limiting+heating too much ! 8s is only ok for light 1/5th buggies... 12s is THE answer for cooler runs with decent power. so i ran cheap FLIER escs but i don't like their unsmooth response. i'm glad hobbywing finally stepped in ! i will get their max4 for sure ! regarding the raminator : 18s would be better suited ! 12s will still run hot and for a too short driving time ! FLIER escs already have 18s to 22s escs, that's a great solution ! more S is better !

The G1 max8 is pretty well topped out with its included motors. I wouldn't really want to go any bigger. I'm not sure about the G2 though. It's supposed to be more powerful and run cooler so it may be better able to handle them. That being said I'm not sure I would go with anything larger motor wise on the Savage x v2. The differentials already have a hard time dealing with the power that the stock system provides.

Cutoff protection is however a great thing, especially for racing and bashing. It does have it's place & even more so if an ESC doesn't have data logging capabilities. There already selling them on Amain Hobbies. I think although this is a different scale and the price difference is pretty big, I see this competing with the XLX2 since Hobbywing products of the same scale tend to be a little less powerful than their Castle counterparts. The thing about it though Hobbywing stuff tends to be way more reliable than the Castle stuff. So you may go through through four (4) XLX2s and still have your MAX 4 ESC. I want to see it guys like Raz Shiffrin, Innovation rc, Phillip Jolley and even Kevin Talbot use them in their 8th scale rc ultra speed car builds. Still I knew if you wanted to go really fast 150 mph and more the only fair option at a price less than $1000 was the XLX2. I could see speed runners trying this out to on their 1/8th scale cars to get those speeds like the XLX2. I want to see how it compares to it, if it matches it or even exceeds it. The next couple of weeks and months would be interesting as people make speed builds around this.

I've already seen some logs and apparently it cuts out at a little under 600 amps so I'm not sure it's going to be that much more appealing than the current offerings given its size and weight.

I mean I thought they made to compete with the XLX2 and pretty much have the same performance. Although Castle doesn't state the amperage their rc car ESCs work with. Also the added weight and price. Then maybe people would just stick to the Max 5 ESC?

My calculations on 12s it would be 15 KW continuous (4.2x12x300). The lower KV should be able to be made up for with gearing. Since weight does not affect ultimate top speed (as long as you have the range for it of course) I think it might be able to be useful to some people. That being said I'm certainly no top speed guy so I'm just guessing.

Unless you run somthing like an lmt 3080 there's the small 2500w power gain over the castle 2028 on 8s is not worth it ive tested the motor. It made 54mph max speed off road on a losi dbxle and was getting warm vs 63mph from the castle 2028 1100kv on 8s that also reach the same temp. So instead im now going to run x2 xlx2 1560kv 8000w C 56mm tp motors 16kw C 24kw peak for a 3.2kg weight gain to see how that compares. The max4 itself should be a killer 6-8s esc and the data logging has been a long time coming on the hobbywing ezrun setups I love the max5 just had to rely on a temp gun with it
