1965 Ford Falcon Sprint 289 Classic

  • What do you think of this hot little "Sprint 289" 1965 Ford Falcon? Few of the Sprint models were made. It is powered by a built 289 with a Holley bbl, carburetor, aluminum intake, and custom free-flowing dual exhaust system. The performance street cam sounds excellent. Enjoy the video of this classic little Ford Muscle car. Thanks for SUBSCRIBING & LIKING Samspace81, your home for classic car road tests & vintage car road trips, inspections & vlogging.

That is how you are supposed to treat a classic like that. Take care of it and drive it. No bells or whistles, just Ford built performance. My Uncle Pat, RIP, had one, It was a bit darker tan color. I remember my first ride in the car with him going through the gears. It made me who I am now. The funny thing is that the car belonged to my Grandmom first, she was a music teacher and drove it to school every day before she turned over the keys to him. I appreciate the reminder and my small trip through time. Thanx.

For an economy car...the Falcon is drop dead georgous! The 289 V8, my absolute favorite V8. Small block high revs (for its era) and very torquey...my opinion one of Ford's best engines

My parents built this car for me as a Sweet 16 birthday gift in 1983. I got married in 1995 and bought a new house in 2000. We sold the car to help furnish the new house. I had always hoped to find the car and get it back once my kids were grown and gone. My Dad found the eBay listing recently, only to find out that it had already sold. I sure hope that whoever is lucky enough to have this car will baby it like I did.

The first and second gen Falcons did not have integrated HVAC. If you wanted AC in a 65 Falcon you ordered it at the dealer and it was a dealer installed (under dash) option. If you look underneath the dash of a non-AC Falcon from that time you'll see the threaded bolt holes where an under-dash AC unit can be mounted.

My first car was a 65 Falcon Sprint. Awful quick, so much fun to drive. Had a souped-up Shelby 289, used to run it on 109 octane VP racing fuel. I don't want to know what that would cost per gallon today. Restoration was never completed--was missing some trim. Broke my heart when I had to sell it back in the early 90s. Would have loved to have made it as pretty as this one. What a sharp car!

Great looking car especially the chrome plated die cast zinc instrument panel. Air conditioning seems to have been pretty unusual for a falcon at that time. Although considered a compact car in Ford's line up it appears to be larger than just about all full sized cars of our era.

Only 3,106 Sprints total (600 Convertibles) were produced in 1965 (US). The 3 speed Cruise-O-Matic was an option. The Sprint that year was not even mentioned in any Ford brochures. The 289 V8 produced 200 hp. and was available in the Falcon Sprint in late 1964. There were only a handful of '64 Sprints with the 289 ci engine in them. The 289 was also available in the standard Futura in 1965 and that badge outsold the Sprint handily.

      1st car I ever owned
      289 4 barrel
      3 speed cruiseomatic automatic transmission
3:07 geared 8 inch rear end.
      When I bought it.
351 4 barrel Windsor motor out of a 69 mach one
      C4 three speed automatic
And a 9 inch ford rear end with 3:90 gears when I was finished with it.
Sold it to a friend of mine whose girlfriend totaled it 2 weeks later
Car was pretty quick, bought the motor out a junkyard, had to put headers on it to get it to fit.
