Thank you for this interview Joab. In the 1980s I met Fr Boucher-Chisale in Mua Mission. The sense of peace and mission in Fr Boucher's work and this location was inspiring. SIx year later I started the PhD program at SOAS in London and spent the next 20 years engaged in research of the Gule Wamkulu, in Chewa villages in Bunda, Lilongwe and Nkhoma. Today I remembered Fr Boucher, after a dream of a very young African boy coming to me singing a French song. I decided to look up Fr Boucher and found your interview. Please continue to document this treasure. Gule Wamkulu is the visible expression of religion that is indigenous and significant to those that practice Nyau. In 2009 I spoke to Divinity students at Chancellor College and encouraged them to embrace this truly Malawian religious form; to document, to study with an open heart, and to bring the philosophy, theology and expressive forms of Nyau into the mainstream of Malawian culture, art and religion.
Fr Boucher is the father of inculturation of Catholic and Nyau religious symbolism and thought. He re-creates stories of the origins of the world, of seasons and the Rift Valley, of the local experience of life and death, and ultimately life after death. He turns these stories into art and stories that translate two theologies into one.
Nyau has its own uplifting and spiritual beliefs that should not be lost.
My life took different turns, and I am now fighting to preserve democracy, transparency and accountability in my original country, the USA. I know the future of Malawian culture is in good hands in Fr Boucher. The next generation of Malawian scholars of religion and divinity must take up this important work; to express and preserve this living indigenous religion. As long as Nyau has meaning for people, it will endure. (Laurel Birch de Aguilar aka Kilgore).

Mr.Joab Chakhaza, this time, you have gone very deep. I am a Mua boy,and my home is just 3 minutes walk from the museum. Watching your interview with Achisale, the man l have grown up knowing, and even served Mass in Church with, when l was a young boy,and when l was a Catholic, brought about a lot of fond and nostalgic memories of my beloved Mua.
Joab, ukutu ndiye kunditambwa, mpaka kukafika kwathu ku Mua? Ayi ndakunyadira mbale wanga.
All I will keep saying to you is, continue with your wonderful work, and remain richly blessed with wisdom and courage to carry on informing, educating, inspiring and motivating our great nation.
The message for Achisale is,you have worked tirelessly and unselfishly for many years in Mua mission Abambo. You have actually put our homeland,Mua on a sport light, and helped in the economical development of the lives of the people in Mua and sorrounding areas,in as much as you have strived to promote and preserve our cultural values and heritage.
I did all my Primary school in Mua,and have been seeing and meeting tourists coming to Kungoni from all over the world from as early as 1980s.This is all and solely to the collective and profound projects and initiatives Abambo Achisale has been undertaking in Mua for such a long time.
Ndikuti, " Zimatha Chisale", mwagwira ntchito yotamandika koposa for many years.
While growing up in Mua and Malawi,l never came to appreciate my background and heritage as much as l do now, after living overseas for nearly 15years. If we did not have Achisale in Mua, l totally believe that l would not have learnt a lot about the cultures around my Ngoni origin. I have met people here in England, even in Spain, Portugal,South Africa, and Italy, who have once visited Mua(Kungoni) and that makes me proud of being a Mua boy.
It is high time for all of us the children of Africa to become home- proud, and be proud of our origins, cultural dances and heritage, that is solely because,it is what defines us, something that makes us stand out and be unique.
Many thanks to all the people who are still dancing Gule Wankulu,Ngoma,Likwata,Vimbuza,Mangaje, and all the traditional dances in Malawi, because without you preserving those dances and traditions,we lose our identify.

I am short of the right words to describe this interview. Woow!!! This is awesome. Thank AChisale for keeping our cultures for posterity. And thank you Joab for unearthing this.
Please go beyond this by creating a movement of people that will ensure that the the items in the museum are not lost to fire, deliberate destruction or act of God and that the items survive AChisale's stay in Malawi. Last time, I learnt that A Chisale was considering returning home to Canada for spend his last days.
There must be deliberate efforts to preserve the contents of this museum for posterity.

Joab, last year we had an excursion at Kungoni. We were treated to various dances of the Chewa, Ngoni and Yao with some narration by AChisale as to what each dance meant. I took some videos which, if you put some professional touch to them, it will be really great. I will contact you next time I am in Lilongwe so that I can deliver them to you for further processing.
