In this video, I’m sharing some of my thoughts and feelings regarding Season 3, Part 1 of Bridgerton. I mainly talk about Colin and Penelope as they were absolutely the highlights of the season for me so far! Give me ALL the pining and longing gazes, please & ty. Along with a video essay-ish overview, I also rewatch some of my favorite scenes-time stamps below- and share my reactions and thoughts along the way. Barely getting this out before Part 2 comes out AHHHHHH.
Any inconsistencies in lighting/framing/video quality are entirely my own fault! 😄 This is my first time filming/editing a video and I’ve learned a lot from the experience. I can confidently promise I will be back with GREAT improvements next time.

CZcams is feeding me these Polin analysis videos and I'm starving for them. I love their chemistry and every time I rewatch notice little details I've missed. Colin literally trying to stir up scandal about Debling was hilarious, boy was so desperate.

On rewatch I believe I spotted another layer in Penelope turning her back on Colin. He just talks to the other young ladies about courage while looking at Penelope and I think she overhears him. So, she takes it as encouragement to go after Deblin, while he is contemplating to confess his love to her. Tragic irony in a way.
Yes!!! This!!!! I felt the same way during that scene. I was like, "Oh gosh, Pen thinks Colin is encouraging her to talk to Lord Debling"

This season had so much subtle acting that if you missed the little looks and changes in demeanor you might miss a lot. I loved the mix of subtleness along with big scenes and emotions. Great analysis
Yes yes yes!👏You really have to pay attention, and perhaps do a few rewatches because you need to be carefully watching several different things that are happening at the same time. If not, you miss a lot like you said!
The second half has so much more subtleness to it especially when it comes to Colin being mad but still really being in love with Pen

Thank you for catching that little nod Colin gives before he gets out of the carriage. That did it for me -he saw his future and decided to grab it. That did me in.

I thought their story was so well written and acted. I'm so happy and satisfied with this season, truly the best one yet. My only gripe with it is that I wanted more scenes for part two, especially now that I know they were deleted. I love a man who completely unhinged for his woman, and even in his anger you can see in his eyes how completely OBSESSED he is with her.

I finally got around to finishing part 2 yesterday and I agree with your wishing for more scenes! And yes 1000x over to loving a man unhinged for his woman, it's honestly the basis for my favorite love stories 😂

I agree a million percent! Colin always cared and protective of Penelope. Like 2nd season finale when he exposed her cousin for trying to con her family. I have been rooting for them since season 1. This season was so beautiful! Yes one of my favorite scenes was the willow tree.I love that they finally found each other.
So glad I found your channel! All your thoughts and analysis of Colin and Pen were 100% aligned with mine. So many people just dismiss Colin so much because he is such an internal and sensitive character. So many people have gone into this season hating Colin and calling him a wimp, and acting like a man who isn't toxic or aggressive doesn't deserve Pen's love. It is refreshing to see someone really understand Colin in the way I do as well! I really hope you do a part 2 analysis as well. I think so many people misinterpret or even dismiss Colin's feelings in part 2 even more, so I'm eager to see if you saw the depths and nuances that I saw!

I agree with both of you completely. I love Colin he is my favorite kind and sensitive, who wouldn't love that. I also love how Luke Newton has played him since season 1 but most especially this season
I have heard many reviews, but you surely have attention to detail. One more clip from Part 1 will be when colin sees pen with deblin through mirror in the Library. Because it literally felt that he was thinking of going to brothel so that he can completely forget about the kiss with her. But apparently that doesn't help. Because he is so fallen for her.

I have watched a thousand of these reviews, opinions and comparisons of Bridgerton and commented on many as you can see if you wish, and never have I agreed so much with a review! So much has been said about Nicola portrayal of Pen and rightfully so; she is quite frankly the most attractive woman in entertainment currently. However so many reviews also say that Luke isn’t a great actor and that she carries him which is incorrect. His acting is subtle but very intentional and exactly the way he should have played it to emulate a man first not understanding his jealousy, and then a man attempting to hide his jealousy. He did a wonderful job and his acting is almost on par with Ms. Coughlan’s. If it is permissible I have a few thoughts of my own? One, as a guy, I would have wanted to punch Lord Debling in the face… several times. As a guy (Italian so very jealous) to see the woman I love and desire look at another man with anything resembling how she looks and acts towards me, I would feel a great deal of fear and hurt that wouldn’t be directed at her, but at him. Second, in the third episode, Pen is looking at Colin during the ball and hearing his speech to the young ladies surrounding him about courage to be true to yourself is when she decides to finally truly let go of any remaining hope of her and Colin. In that moment the symbolism of her turning away from him and towards Debling is missed by many as one of the most pivotal moments of the season. I would have shattered my heart if I had been Colin. Third, during the end of that episode when Colin is at his most vulnerable as he is standing in front of Pen overcome by carnal desire, all animals including humans would have guarded against any intrusion into that personal space. I would have liked to see him snap at Debling for interrupting, and then immediately apologize after remembering himself and where he is at that moment, in public. Finally, as someone who has read the book and now watched the show I can say without a doubt that show Colin deserves Pen much more than book Colin who is quick to anger and says terrible things when angry that I would never say to the woman I love regardless of how angry I am. Sorry if this was too long. I liked, subscribed, and belled. I greatly anticipate your next post!
Never apologize!! I so loved hearing your thoughts! Luke's acting is honestly TOO good for some people to catch, especially upon first watch. He conveys emotions and thoughts subtly like you said, but if the acting were any louder than that we would've lost a lot of the nuances that make his character so compelling. I never thought about it until reading your comment, but YES would it have been so right for Colin to snap at Debling for the interruption (and then apologize). I would've paid to see it!
Yes, Book Colin was great in every book except his own. It's like JQ forgot who he was. Maybe she was on a tight deadline 🤔

Wonderful discussion of part 1!! I agree with everything you say about Colin, and find Luke Newton's acting to be just God-tier. The control he has, and his ability to convey so much through just his micro-expressions is just fantastic. I cannot and do not understand any of the complaints of this season, particularly part 1. To me, it could not have been clearer what was happening with Colin. I guess the world is just not ready for a sensitive man of action who won't be forced to duel or nearly marry the sister of the woman he actually loves, before confessing! Colin is the man, in the real world, that we all need; or at least that I need. Though, I have to admit that the final scenes of episode 3 are in my top five of the season; tortured and teary-eyed Colin is everything. The way he looks at Pen, and the way he watches her dance with Lord Debling (who is a good guy! I love an alternative love interest who isn't awful! He's just not the right one for Pen!); it's all just so delicious and wonderful.

Thank you for this! I loved this season so much! I've been a fan of all the seasons but this particular couple changed my brain chemistry, I swear. Luke Newton definitely deserves more praise for his portrayal of Colin and the, in my opinion, betterment of this book counterpart (reading him violently grasping at Pen is not romantic to me, sorry to the book purists). I have never rewatched a season of a show as much as I have this season. This was a wonderful recap, you're awesome!

Just what my Polin fangirl heart needed. ☺I've seen an excessive amount of negativity about season 3 and, while it could have been better in some parts, I honestly don't think it was that bad. (For me, Shadow and Bone S2 as a Kanej/Inej fangirl was a storyline travesty. That was butchered and definitely badly handled. But that's another rant. 😂)
I love what we got of Polin, feel that a lot of it made sense (I love the analysis videos about Colin's character that go into more detail) and I just want to relish in the Polin storyline without the "S3 was horrible!" comments. Obviously, we're all entitled to our own opinions but the hate is honestly a bit much for me. Can't we just relish in the glory that is Polin a little bit more? 🥰
So many of your comments about Colin I agree with! I could go on and on, but I'll stop myself to keep this from being a whole speech. Haha. But, simply put, I love how head over heels Colin is for Pen! It's not only a well-done friends-to-lovers story, it's a beautiful case of "She fell first, but he fell harder." Which I LOVE and Luke's acting did a perfect job of portraying it.
I really hope the writers give them a solid B plot in S4/5 because as much as I would love to see how the other couples are brought to the screen, I would LOVE to see more of Polin in comparison. Not gonna lie! Especially with the genius of Luke and Nicola's acting skills in playing Penelope and Colin and how well they play off of each other.

I think you should correct the phrase "gushing about polin" in your title to "gushing about colin", as you spent virtually no time at all in analysing Penelope's performance, which I believe to be exceptional! In truth, I could not quite detect the nuances in Colin's acting which you appeared to discover, finding, on occasion, that I had to guess how he might be thinking/feeling in a given situation (a problem I never experienced with Pen).
Just a difference of opinion, I guess, but still a little disappointing given the overall bias. That said, I do applaud your willingness to share your very detailed thoughts with the Polin fanbase, and wish you continuing success with your channel.
