- Wow. Here it is! After 6 months of promising this massive project, I've finally finished it. Honestly, this video essay will always remain a symbol to me of how hard work pays off and no matter how difficult things get, to never give up that hard work.
There were many times where I thought I wouldn't finish this and I should just can the whole idea. But truthfully all of the encouragement from each and every one of you is what has kept me going.
This video is dedicated to all of those who watched, listened, and commented even when I was too discouraged to upload. This video is for all of those who wanted to hear my thoughts and encouraged me to make a video on this specific movie.
This video is for you, and thank you for everything you've carried me through in the past 6 months of making this.

Thanks again guys, you mean the world to me :) - Krátké a kreslené filmy
The legend is back. Fun fact. I started this film at 1 am on a school night just to start it and I couldn’t stop watching it. Watched it straight through and instantly became a favorite.
💙💙💙
and yeah that's the best way to watch it XD
I just remember when this movie released and it was soooo hyped up for awards season. I went with some friends and I think we all had a bit of a chip on our shoulders, ready to hate it because "there's no way a Facebook movie can really be that good." And...admittedly walking out of the theater, I did think it was overhyped, but then I just found that for days after I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I finally went and saw it again a few weeks after and realized it truly is a perfect movie. Thanks for sharing your analysis of it!
What a story!!! Each and every person who loves this movie has a connection with it comparative to yours. And that's why I think it's so special
The editing is unbelievable some of the most effort I’ve ever seen put into a video essay kudos to you
wow, really appreciate the encouragement!!! means the absolute world to me :)
@@onlymoviesilike No problem :)
This movie made me think of the synergy between scenes, soundtrack and color grading. This movie would easily float today the way its been shot and produced. Timeless piece.
dude the intro to this video got me so hooked on your editing style that I just couldn’t look away from the screen, that’s one thing a lot of video essay creators can’t manage but you just hit the nail on the head PERFECTLY ❤️
Awww man wow thank you! really means so much to me!
These videos are amazing. I came here from that La La Land video and I've enjoyed watching your videos ever since. Keep it up!
AHHHHHH thank you Micah!!!! So cool of you to say that and watch my stuff :)
Exactly the same!
This is what filmmaking is all about. This film will forever be connected to me because of Mark and Eduardo's demise as a pair. Two people who seem so great around one another are, to no fault of their own, so hurt by one another. I've been through something like this and I too have had cynical thoughts whilst simultaneously not achieving what I wanted. It's hard to get where and what you want in life. I like how this video mentions how the environment we are in shapes who we are. It shapes what we need. I know people have to put up with who I am to be near me and I truly am grateful when they are around. I am grateful for my mistakes I've made.
Edit seconds later: I really love the name of your channel and the topics you chose to talk about in this essay. I talk about films in this amount of detail every day and I've always wanted to make a video on some of my favorites. I think I will do that.
Omg he finished it
oh my... THE doktor skipper commented on my video????
Dude how do you only have 1.5k subs?? This was so interesting and thought provoking. Please never stop making these.
appreciate it man 👊
This is a brilliant essay. I can tell a lot of time/effort went into this. I love how you dived deeper into the layers of filmmaking and touched on the key elements that make this film tick, exploring them in broader depth. I am honored to be your 1,000th viewer. We are currently making a Short Film inspired by The Social Network and I am researching all I can about the film. Incredible work Teddy!
wowow so sorry it took me so long to see this. incredibly honouring and encouraging 💙
It's okay. No problem! Keep up the fantastic work👍
The editing in this entire video is just *chefs kissx10*
😂💙💙💙
this is such an excellently presented video essay, I've never seen anything quite like this :D The narration, montage, editing and music is on point. Keep going
This is easily my favorite movie. I'll always love this film so much
It just gets BETTER every single time!!!
This movie right here is what got me into film. this video pretty much explains everything I loved about it. Excellent video essay. I hope more come out soon.
Thank you AHHHHHHH!!!! Means so much that I can express my pointless opinions and have others say they feel the same way.
Brilliant video Teddy. Thank you for explaining why The Social Network is perfect.
It's my third favourite film ever but definitely the most important to me and my life. I remember hearing the main titles and seeing the title card in a best movies if the decade video and after that I knew I needed to see this film. I watched the trailer and my interest grew. I then watched it with my brother and instantly fell in love with it, the next day I rewatched it without subtitles and decided it was the greatest piece of film I had ever seen up until that point.
I have seen it 5 times by now and I love it more with each viewing. I listen to the score all the time and I watch clips from it all the time, each one just brings me to tears because of how much this particular film means to me. It has influenced me, my interests and my love for films in countless ways. I have this connection with the film that I don't have with any other and I literally cry everytime I see the trailer.
AHHHHHHRRRGGGGGAAHHGRA SO GOOD NOA!!!! Thank you so much... like seriously thank you!
Wow, fantastic video! Not gonna lie I assumed this video had hundreds of thousands of views based on the production quality and amount of intelligent insight! Either way, really loved the video, you smashed it!
We must have similar tastes because The Social Network and La La Land are both in my top 10! I adore both of them.
awwww thank you so much 🙏

haha thanks David 👊
Awesome video man cant wait for the next one
haha i really hope so!!! got some stuff in the works but i gotta keep hustling lol
your outro with narrowed and slowed down theme hit me hard. bravo....
Sam Altman once you know the psychology of it, building AI requires only an intelligent Boy Scout.
I watched this movie 15-18 times (I lost count). I can’t figure out why I’m so obsessed. Maybe it’s simply because I’m a nerd. 🤭🤓
Oh and by the way, you did a magnificent job with your editing, explanation and the tone of your voice is satisfying. Thank you. 🙏🏾
The Social Network is 13 years old, It has remained my personal favorite movie of all time till Christopher Nolan gave it a run for its money with Oppenheimer.
Great editing, great script, good quality, and yet you have something over 1k subs?!? People are missing out on your content!
loved the video, it should have way more views
really appreciate it!!! hopefully one day it will
I can't believe you have less than 1000 subscribers. You're writing, editing, and narration are all fantastic! It's a shame that Austin McConnell just did his annual "Channels under 1000 subscribers" video. You would be a shoe-in for that!
Woow man... that seriously means so much Joel!!!! Thank you thank you 💙💙
@@onlymoviesilike of course dude!
Originally watched this movie bc I'm a big nine inch nails fan. Turned out to be an amazing film
How you don't have 1m followers is beyond me! Keep working at this OMIL, it will indeed pay off.
It already did pay off in a way cause I'm here and I love what you did as you took my thoughts on this film and put them on display...
After all, isn't that what we are all looking for on youtube?
Wow thank you so much JB!!! Really means so much to see such incredibly kind and encouraging words from people like you! So inspiring and really keeps pushing me to keep on going! A lot of stuff in the works rn so hopefully it'll only get better!
just picked up the 4k disc from ebay, as i didn’t want the whole columbia classics vol 2. anyways, it was even better! first time for wife watching it actually and she enjoyed it thoroughly. hardly picked up her phone!
so naturally i am here to watch your deep dive again ;)
I know full well I'm in the minority here and it's okay if anyone disagrees with me but I literally got nothing out of The Social Network.
I felt absolutely nothing for any of the characters; Zuck's two qualities are that he's smart and an *sshole( not "morally grey" just a jerk). Garfield's character feels like he exists solely for us to feel sorry for him. The only thing I knew about the film going into it was that it was about Facebook and that one of the characters gets betrayed. Andrew's first line is "Hey Zuck I heard you broke up with Erica(*puts palm on his chest ), I'm here for you" I was like oh wow I wonder who he's going to betray.
I don't feel like I have anything in common with either of the lead characters because they both come off as caricatures. I'm sorry but "following a character around" doesn't make me automatically feel more connected to them. Garfield is devoted to Mark for no reason other than he's a nice guy who never does anything wrong.
This isn't meant to be a criticism of either actor but they have ZERO chemistry. Almost every conversation is just them arguing or disagreeing with each other.
I never felt like there was a genuine relationship between any of the characters. The theme is meant to be betrayal but I saw it coming a mile away and nothing is done to develop their relationship in order to make the betrayal carry any actual weight. Zuck and whats-his-name
NEVER felt like friends to me. I wish they would have had inside jokes, shared moments of growth or carried on conversations like Vincent and Jules do in Pulp Fiction. Because of this I felt absolutely NOTHING when he betrayed him.
I never felt like Zuck was "seeking" approval from anyone, otherwise he would have different approaches aside from being a jack*ss. He would have at least tried to be nice to someone, and I guess he kind of was at the end, but I don't believe that it would have taken him that long.
Everything feels shallow, melodramatic and pretentious, like it cared more about showing off than telling an actual story.
Everyone praises the dialogue but I hated it; it felt contrived and nothing had the natural flow of an actual conversation. It's like Sorkin cared more about his character's having some kind of Zinger than using it as a vehicle to deepen the story being told. My favorite example of this was when Timberlake's character asked something to the effect of:
"you ever walk into a guy's den and see a picture of him standing next to 14 trout?"
"No, you show the 3000 pound Marlow."
"YUP."
I HATE dialogue like this because literally no one talks like that; no one responds to an analogy they've never heard before with something so specific. I like it when dialogue carries subtext(by this I mean it tells you something about the characters indirectly) which happens a couple times throughout the film but not many because everyone is too busy throwing around one liners. Also the character who says it is just some dumb bimbo AG's character is seeing who lacks any depth.
On the surface everything is technically brilliant; the cinematography and performances are all fantastic, but that is the definition of Oscar bait.
Also I LOVE Fincher; Mindhunter is one of my absolute favorite shows, but this I think is his weakest project that I've seen.
i'm here form your la la land video and this one is just as amazing. so eye opening and gave me a whole new perspective on the film. also andrew garfield is just
I know the dialogues by heart
count me jealous 😂😂
It’s pretty good. The only issue I had was the lighting in some scenes since I couldn’t see what was going on lmaoooo I had to switch it to a tv and a dark room.
The return of th king

I'm having an increasing love for moneyball as it continues to play over in my mind again and again! Love Aaron Sorkin to death

Great video but the red background pisses me off lol. IMO the color just doesn’t fit
lol faiiiir!! Probably getting towards the end of this season so I'll switch it up hopefully sometime soon! (I still will probably have keep it colour for copyright reasons tho :(
This movie was far from perfect. It was well crafted, well acted, but not well written by any means. Mark was a not a complex character, he was consistently unlikeable and is impossible to sympathize with. Sean parker was a plot device, not a character. Eduardo is the only character that was realistic and had some sort of development. The lack of character depth was caused by the daft and lazy ending. What happened in the lawsuits? Eduardo came back but not as his best friend, why not portray that? Why not develop the theme of karma when sean ended up being the wrong choice? Why not give the audience at least a part of a character arc instead of having the same broken character? Cuz of a message that is “we are all broken?” Thats just being tolerable to ridiculous and childish behavior. Mark had absolutely no grounds to do anything he did. And u cant just say “we are all broken ppl, we would all act as mark did.” Because we wouldnt, thats why its not cathartic to me. I dont care about his longing for a relationship that ended within the first 10 mins of the film. I dont care about an asshole’s suffering cuz hes not popular. I rlly just dont get the message it tried to send. It could’ve been a commentary on how billionare are rich but at what cost? It couldve been the concept of karma and you get hurt the same way you hurt others. It couldve been the message you interpreted if the character wasnt so goddamn unlikable.
you talk a lot about the sound of movies but I had to close your video. It's an unwatchable cause of the sound.
I thought my headphones were broken
hahahaha lol so fair. definitely doing my best to improve upon that XD
This is fuckin art my boy. Art
This is by far, your best video.
thanks phoenix 👊 really means the world to me! ( also sorry this took me a good 5 months to respond to lolll)
