We moan about our trains here in the UK....but try travelling long distance in the US. Our trains are luxurious by comparison. And a top speed of 60 mph all the way from NY to Austin, Texas, is a joke! Actually it seems the whole world is leaving the US behind when it comes to rail travel. Even the Russians have state of the art, high speed passenger trains. As do the Chinese. And ofcourse, the Japanese left us all way behind 40 years ago!
Large parts of America have seen no passenger trains since the sixties. Most of the country away from the North East and the major cities has a very poor train service.
+boyamIhappy That's because all of USA is filled with petrol heads. They love cars and the difference in scale is evident. The UK has a terrible road system, we have terrible highway joining, congestion & we're not doing anything to develop our roads to ease congestion at all. USA's roads & highway system is amazing. There's no need for trains.
We probably won’t since newer trains have alternate and more effective methods of going into bends without having to tilt e.g class 800/802 (the trains used by LNER, transpennine express nova 1 and GWR). I forgot how they do it exactly but they use a different mechanism
@@jamrah8713 Well they are super-elevating more curves so that the train leans into the curve via means of one rail being raised slightly higher than the other. Allows more trains to do this and is cost effective.
That's an eleven car train! I work on the maintenance on them at ALSTOM in Manchester, currently changing 'The Carden Shafts' ( a large propshaft weighing 95 KG) The Avanti West Coast Mainline are due for a full refurb in July 2023 dx
Way better then that utter sh!t known as Avanti West Coast. Virgin is always going to come top of my list for one of the best operators. RIP virgin trains :(
But Avanti company refurbished those carriages , had to say they're hi-tech class to virgin standards, much brighter better wider seats and leg room, thumbs up I say 😁

Even if it did get stuck in a tilted position, it wouldn't hit the platform. The part that tilts is all above the height of the platform, and the front cowling is shaped so it can't hit the platform. Notice how the upper part of the carriage slopes inward? That's so when it tilts it still fits within the loading gauge for the line. When it's at full tilt, the side of the train on the "inside" of the tilt is vertical. Otherwise, nevermind station platforms, you'd risk hitting other trains on adjacent tracks everytime you went round a curve.
Depends how old you are I guess. I remember me and other kids of my age thinking the Pendolinos were a thing of wonder when the first come out and to us they’re the most iconic.
Josh, good theory but you need to look closer, they all have distinctive marks, one has an emblem on the black panel one has paint missing and one is completely clean so no it wasn't the same train but yes it was repetitive, still good though.
Al parecer ya lo van a hacer, aunque no de alta velocidad. Ojalá metieran de estos en la vía actual, que de hecho estaba electrificada antes. Obvio se tendrían que hacer algunas adecuaciones
bencody3 one thing that does strike me regarding Pendolinos they are a very reliable unit and this is quite remarkable considering they are used so intensively. You never hear of one breaking down.
The APT was a brilliant train that was ruined by economics and politics. It’s reassuring to know the tech was given to Virgin, where it became a delightful, successful train.
Apt was made decades ago, these are modern and the kinks have been worked (biggest problem was motion sickness and vibrations I believe, form what I understand motion sickness was fixed by tilting a little bit late, so you can kinda of feel the tilt start, before you wouldn't and you would see the train tilt and it led to motion sickness so by warning the body it won't react. Atleast that's what I think was done )
@@eannamcnamara9338 APTs motion sickness was caused by full compensation: the body could feel no tilt but you could see it through the window (it was fine in the dark!). It was made worse by many being hungover on the first publicity run (in late 1981) because the journalists were all given free booze the night before. Tilt was then backed off a bit so you could feel it a little. This was all resolved with the APT after its early bad publicity but before it was withdrawn in early 1986.
Electric train are: better for the environment More efficient Faster And overhead lines look amazing(maybe cause i live in switzerland, all rail is electric there)

Fuel there is dirt cheap hence the big puckup trucks, etc. But you need a car to survive out there unless you live in the city.
AbsTheUploader Correct, but I want electric trains all over the U.S.

beautiful train
As someone who lives where trains were invented, I’m a fan
I've always wondered, how does the train tilt without the pantograph coming off the wire?
Love a good pendolino
I'm yet to experience this, I can't wait till I get the chance to, I bet its really fun like my 1st time in a plane to Italy 4 years ago.
Well done you got a subscriber
Aren't they wonderful! And they're not even new!

Doesn't the cantt exaggerate the effect of the tilt anyway?

Great trains. Not without their faults of course but they’ve proven their worth over the last twenty years.
Hard to believe they're 20 years old
@@Baloongis2 Indeed!
Does the pantograph have to tilt the other way so it keeps contact with the overhead cable?
No, it is fixed to the bogie (where the wheels are attached) so doesn't connect to the body shell, and so it stays upright
