Becsuse those who are guilty and culpable of wrongdoing, choose to promote such a toxic work culture to isolate those they don't like, while simultaneously trying to promote themselves are their victim's expense with no remorse or care inthe world, and when they are confronted with this reality by those who call them out on it, they will try to sustain plausible deniability.

I feel that most sabotaging coworkers do it on purpose, they know what they're doing. I have been pushed out of a couple of jobs because of them. They seem to have a knack for manipulating the bosses to believe everything they say. I've learned now just to be cool and polite on the job, and not talk about myself much because they can take something completely innocent that you say and twist it around. I go with my gut now also, if I sense that somebody's toxic I keep my distance. It's so true that one rotten apple spoils the whole bunch!

I believe a lot of sabotaging behaviour is born of jealousy. We have all experienced a toxic co worker of varying degrees. In my experience most people are aware of someone who may be a problem. Things always have a way of getting back to you. Even the people who smile in your face while they stab you in the back. I prefer to be aware of their nature before they know they have been rumbled. Oscar Wilde once said a true friend will always stab you in the front. Great video Jennifer.

I worked in factories my whole life where I got to meet some of the worst bottom dwellers of society. One guy I worked with tried to blame another coworker for his mistakes. He did this partly to sabotage others. We were all in the same manufacturing department and when a job arrived we all worked on the same parts. Consequently it was easy to blame others because you couldn’t tell who worked on which parts. When I first saw this blame game I secretly started to put a small hidden mark on the parts I completed. Sure enough several months later he tried the same thing with me. When the boss came over to yell at me I had him separate which were the bad ones. Then I showed him all the parts I made with my secret mark and then showed him all the bad parts didn’t have my mark on them. I won big time that day. Unfortunately as it always goes when you defeat the workplace assh*les it only puts a bigger target on your back. Some of the stories I could tell you would make your blood boil.

I have to leave very detailed notes because a coworker has the ability to get into the system I use and would change my orders so that it appeared I made mistakes and she did it early on enough that I couldn’t figure out what was going on. She tried to change one after the sale and luckily the one I sold was “read only” (so, frozen in time, proving I ordered the correct one). She kept messing up so much in this order and then moved to a new job without charging the customer for the work, so we had to just give that person the product and take a loss. I think this person was her friend perhaps? She also commented to me once “oh, you have No idea what I’m capable of” indicating to me the depths that she would go to be vengeful. And these people do it for the love of being sadistic and think they’re intelligent. It’s absolutely crazy.

I've caught on at places at work where the bosses and coworkers sabatage went hand in hand..... Meaning this:
If the boss don't like you, they will send their favored ones after you, You are their target til they find an excuse to get rid of you. They will make sure your job performance lowers by knocking you down, jumping hoops that turns to a never ending story. You still cant make them happy. No point in talking about your needs or concerns cause bossy glossy wants to rid you one way or another. They'll even lower themselves to try to cost you your license or certification for the job. Ruin your ability to find another job cause they defamed you. Destroyed your reputation, your confidence, they now own success while you've become the "street bumb" that nobody wants to hire.

If you don’t jump on the sheep boat, and have a different idea they don’t like that. There is no communication, in other words the communication is done behind your back about you. It is such a disappointment when someone befriends you to backstab you. Humanity is better than this.

Unfortunately, birds of a feather flock together. So toxic people unite against someone who appears to be a threat by being too professional or productive even if they appear not to like each other they will fake it like crazy to achieve the goal of trying to break you; You would think people would appreciate someone who is productive, and minds their business. Nope they will find a way to make all of your positive traits/actions appear to be negative. If you explain then you're deflecting or defensive. If you keep your personal business to your self then you think that you're better than everyone. If you ignore nonsense and drama then you are childish and passive aggressive. These people know exactly what they are doing. I agree with be awesome every chance you get, they will get worse but at least you can show that you actually do work at work and that is what you are suppose to be doing.

I was a supervisor for UPS. And my boss, a coworker and an employee were besties. And they came in everyday just to torment me. My boss wanted to “tear me down just so he could build me back up” he let his favorite supervisor abandon his station just to bully and annoy me. He told me he knew that he was bullying me. But wanted me to prove him wrong myself. So I tried. But nothing worked. Mostly because he already made up his mind about me. And the guy who worked for me would hide packages under his work station just so I would get in trouble. They wrote me up for everything. And changed the sort chart almost weekly. They doubled my area to twice the size it has ever been. And wouldn’t give me extra people. My boss told me almost daily that he wanted me to quit and resign. And every time I overcame an obstacle he made things even harder and wrote me up for not doing it perfectly. He yelled at me. Cussed at me. And gaslit me over my performance. Insulted my intelligence. And made fun of my mental health. Saying I was the weakest out of all his supervisors and that he didn’t need me. But I was too stubborn to quit. Especially since it’s what he wanted. Until one day I couldn’t take it anymore. I stormed out after he threatened to write me up for printing more labels before we ran out. Saying “I don’t care you weren’t prepared” and if I were you. I’d resign and come work for me as an hourly” so I quit. But not before giving him the bird and storming out. And what’s worse is that after I left. Not even a week afterwards he changed everything back to the way it was for the next guy. And it messed me up. Literally broke my heart because I use to love that job. And I was great at it. I don’t think I will ever recover from that abuse.

I started a management job with a company recently only to find out it was rotten and toxic after being hired. Managers quitting and taking stress leave, endless blaming, no co-operation and teamwork, zero responsibility taking.
They hired me to take a management position in their well established service department but didn’t allow me any access to the information and systems or procedures that were in place before me. I was told I was a smart guy, ask a lot of questions and figure it out.
I quickly found out that I was also expected to do the work of several roles, most of which were well beneath what I was hired for (like picking orders as a corporate manager?!? C’mon) I also learned that the people before me left to open their own satellite office and took all of their knowledge and experience with them, leaving the GM a with literally nothing.
The staff are nice people but are so toxic and everyone is overworked and facing burnout.
I resigned this week, after 6 weeks I realized how sadly, I won’t be able to change anything or fix what’s going on. It’s not my problem.

I hope they find their confidence so they don’t feel the need to sabotage or gang up on others.

Same here being mobbed, gaslighting, harassed at the hospital for 12 years. Top workers for 38 years have never been suspended. Jealousy and misery. Union, manager, HR and the police are all totally useless. Bullies are lazy bums and stupid managers are scared of the bullies. They say about me I'm crazy, i dink, i'm a stalker all bs defamation of character. They removed disciplinary measures. They should arrest the bullies and fire the manager. Action speaks louder than nasty words. It destroys my reputation. I will never quit to make these bums ever win and if I transfer to another hospital and mobbing starts again I don't know all the managers ect like in every department like now. So best to not change hospitals. Never let bullies try to control you from quitting. Never let bums win in life.hh

A trainer sat with me to prepare for teaching a class. I showed her an update to a job aid and asked if we could bring it to a workgroup, she said we would. A few weeks later I see an email about her getting it updated. I had documentation and showed my manager who did not approach that person or their manager. Ugh

OMG I have experienced all of the examples she gave by a crazy person @ work. I just don't think she has the reach to really hurt me though, has she tried? Of course. However, since I am sort of new in my field and this lady has been around for many years more than 10 well no one backs me up. I am just sort of trying to avoid her and taking the necessary steps to choose my next adventure which probably will take me some months. THANK YOU for the video.

I was almost fired today because I asked my coworkers (guys and girls) instagrams. This is after they showed interest in being friendly at a work related event.
Multiple employees whom don’t normally interact actually complained so I realize my mistake was trying to be friendly. What a world
But also now that I’m not fired, I’m going to definitely transfer to another department to avoid those coworkers and still be employed. My supervisor who’s also male explained to me that working in a 90% female industry will lead to men taking the fall Lol. Imagine that

I don't even wanna hear it. Or if he does mean it, I'm not trying to hear that. Somexs I forget he's a dude. Venting to him like another female like xyz really does touch on my boobs & I'm just thinking what really r u doing. Lesbo girl: she's low key a lesbo & doesn't know it yet. Like maybe? Always calling me beewaful & trying to make out w/ me or wever she thinks she's doing. He just laughs & walks off. Till that lady's kissing on him. That lady kisses on everyone

This is a difficult situation when you are a person of color. Racist undermining coworkers constantly engage in games of misdirection, smear campaigns, intimidation,, and willful ignorance.
When the employer realizes that you are a threat because you are calling out the games electronically and they try to recruit people into their web, the environment becomes toxic.
It is sad because if I had a family to feed, it would really be devastating to be stuck in student loan debt and trying to provide the best for my children.
Unfortunately, there are companies that will hire you with the expectation of climbing but so high. However, when others realize that you are capable of climbing higher, they become intimidated.
Inevitably, you will be wrongfully terminated because their egos wont. At that point you have to decide to take the cancelation prize of a severance package where you promise not to sue. If suing is your option, you have to ask if the damages are worth being black listed and can be recovered by an atty who charges 400 dollars per hour.

I agree with You,especially as a young black women, the racism and sexism is horrible combined...This lady speaks absolute garbage,in the first points. She definetly is one of those toxic positivity gas lighting people. So many times I have tried being "positive", or "see the light", in terrible people and it didn't make them any better, it actually made me more of a target for sabotage and bullying. When I became rude back or reported them. That was when they started to back off or "be better". Sometimes you have to unfortunately get on those people's level to deal with them. Life isn't a Disney movie hey, sometimes trying to see the light in a terrible person, can cost you your life.....

You are right. Managers know the racist antics going on at work. They just don’t care. Racism is not seen as harassment, it’s swept under the rug with gaslighting phrases like, “there are some rough people in this department” All disrespect is seen as people just being “tough”. But the reality is when you’re “tough” back, especially as a black woman, you’re labeled as belligerent and aggressive. These white folk will disrespect the heck out of you but when you stand up to them they know they can use the angry black woman card and get you fired because their white managers will back them up and gaslight you. Most of us are hired for optics anyway even when we’re qualified for the job they only want us there for optics and labor. They will try to paint you as incompetent but then try to give you more work because they want your labor. If I’m so stupid why do you want me taking on more tasks?? Because you on some racist BS that’s why. Black women especially need to always keep a side hustle because while every workplace is not toxic like this, the majority of them are. I will also say the city you work in can have something to do with it as well. If you work in a city where there are not a lot of black professionals be prepared for more racism. They aren’t used to seeing us in these professional spaces so they get triggered. Ok my rant is done. Thank you.

Is there any kind of terminology, a buzzphrase or anything like that, for when someone reasonably competent goes to a company that's been going to weeds for a while, the people there realize that the new employee's competence is a threat, and whenever something the new employee is trying to do adjoins in any way with their area of work they get butter-fingers, drop the ball, can't remember how to do anything, etc.? It seems like a kind of swarming antibody thing, where they can all each take one hit with the boss if they drop the ball on something but if the new employee ends up unable to do their job they take the hit from everyone else - the goal of the exercise seems to get that new person run out of the company.
I really think this is a thing, I just wish there was a clear name for it. Maybe it's a kind of sand-bagging?

@@JenniferBrick I suppose, but I think of what the term 'gas-lighting' has done to expose things that people simply weren't mindful of. This is another place where I still get the impression that too many people are like 'Nah, most people aren't like that'. It probably needs some kind of linguistic hook for that to happen - I say that as someone whose witnessed what it can do to keep A-grade talent out of small companies.

I recently had a boss that told me that my face was too expressive and that I needed to make sure that my expression wasn't saying what my mind was thinking. One day she gave me a task to do & took my "I'm thinking about how to to that" expression as something negative, pointed her finger at me and said that I "need to check" my face. I asked her to not do that sort of thing again. that didn't help me at all & i ended up leaving the job just a few days after the incident and i will never ever speak up for myself again.
