So delighted you’ve done a session with Brad. A true genius. I won’t pretend to understand everything he does, but what I do follow is transcendental. 🙏
I agree with you. There is something extremely delicate, exquisite in the drift that Brad makes when improvising on the melody...as you say, something transcendental.
I would pay a lot of money to hear that sound swirling around me in my studio, absolutely stunningly beautiful, truly unique to this interview, I can’t find this kind of playing anywhere else, I just keep letting this loop. Thank you Rick !! For making this happen. 😇🙏♥️🌈
I didn't on the first couple of plays but it is there in the background. It takes a little attuning to listen to the two hands simultaneously doing their own thing.
I have only the faintest whiff of an idea what he said but what he played was stellar. I remember his name from an album he did with Pat Metheny long ago.
This clip doesn’t do him justice. I saw him perform a couple weeks ago. He starts a song and it’s very recognizable. Verse/chorus…, establishing the theme of the song. Then he gets going! He takes it out for a spin. Melodic and harmonic variations where if you just jump into the middle of a performance like this video does, it’s harder to understand where he started and how he got to where he is (if my explanation makes sense). The Golden Slumbers he did the other night really took us on a journey, then he hit the chorus and brought us all back to earth. Amazing.
Anyone else out there listened to the BM Trio's '50 ways to leave your lover' from the 'Day is Done' album as many times as I have..??? The break down Brad solo piano towards the end before the band pile back in.... OH MY GOD. Look it up if you haven't heard it. Goose pimples every time ❤❤❤ He's amazing ❤️
Rick’s recent CZcams short brought me back to this interview. What a treasure, after Billy’s describing the recording process of Siamese Dream I had to pause this to go and listen to the album for a while. The production (and songwriting) is actually mind blowing, go listen in 2024 it will knock your socks off ! I can’t get over how much better and more artistic recording and production in the 60s-90s was. I know technology has moved on but as a musician, I personally just can’t !
Getting some piano players in the mix the last few videos. Love it! How bout some more videos of those session players: Omartian, Paich, Buchanan, Foster, Leavell! Appreciate all you do!!
I first heard a song by Brad a while back called bachelor... He doesn't compose like Herbie... But his fills and connecting the dots definitely has some Herbie in it. I like both as composers, but if I want a bigger journey on the composition, Brad read really takes you somewhere
At first I had misread the title as "Hey Jude" and I was like... Wtf!? And then I saw it was "Hey Joe" and I was like... Wtf!?
😂
Both reactions WTF!?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!
Same haha
Doesn’t sound like either 😂
That's a beautiful version of Hey Joe that only he understands

Thats the beauty of it. You will always discover new things. Well put
I agree with you. There is something extremely delicate, exquisite in the drift that Brad makes when improvising on the melody...as you say, something transcendental.
That is a little different than what I was doing with Hey Joe on a strat almost 30 years ago
Hey Rick - Yes! So glad you started were able to make the Mehldau interview happen. Can't wait for the full one. Cheers.
Brads work with Metheny is magic❤
I think that was honestly one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard improvised on any instrument...incredible.
You don't listen to much music then? 😏
Take it easy
@@davids736Yo can listen to music and play music yourself for a lifetime and still be amazed by Mehldau. He's the real deal.
@@davids736You could listen to music for a lifetime and still be amazed by Mehldau. He's the real deal. Check him out.
This man's Art of the Trio albums changed my life and how I think about music
I love how he interprets contemporary music and make its his own beautiful multilayered artwork.

I’m stunned. Phenomenal performance.
My favorite pianist 👏🏻 excited for this!
Beautiful.
Brad is so brilliant! Looking forward to the interview. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Rick!!!
Absolutely gorgeous!! More please
I want to see this one ao bad!
I don't hear it. As hard as I try, I can't hear Hey Joe at all.
Was about to say the same thing. It's like one or two notes of similarity lol and the rest is completely different including the tempo obviously
100%. I didn't even hear any of the chords
I didn't on the first couple of plays but it is there in the background. It takes a little attuning to listen to the two hands simultaneously doing their own thing.
Focus on the left hand and you'll be sure to hear it!
Ear training required!
I’m burning my piano now! Amazing.
I couldn’t keep track for more than a couple seconds 🤣 INCREDIBLE
The playing is brilliant. The way that piano is mic’ed is equally amazing.
Goethe hell he’s got such a beautiful sound in 15 secs of playing. Damn Brad, you’re a true genius
Yes Brad is the best! Please do an episode with Dave King and the guys from The Bad Plus!
Thank you! You just reminded me of this group. I loved their work 20 years ago. 20 years‽ 😮😢
Wow that blew my mind
Waiting for the full interview, great tribute to hendrix with the flipped sound
Went to school with Brad. He was ahead of his time back then and he is ahead of his time now.
You guys need to check out his rendition of "I Am the Walrus" I promise it will be worth it
I have only the faintest whiff of an idea what he said but what he played was stellar. I remember his name from an album he did with Pat Metheny long ago.
Amazing album!!
I don't recognize this as Hey Joe. He's a tremendous pianist though.
I didn’t hear the harmony or the melody. Haha. But yeah it sounds good
It’s there you just gotta dig for it. He definitely made it his own

The top note follows the melody of the instrumental part near the end of Hey Joe. It’s all there.
Hey Joe. ...must be the Johnny Rivers version. But he does it so well.
Beautiful to my ears.
Beautiful ❤

Heck yeah I'm all in!!! When?! Please!!! Brad is amazing!

Goosebumps ❤
Brad’s playing is always interesting and he’s one of my favorite guys to listen to! I have to find the rest of this interview!!!
Love 5 against 4 music. So inspiring.
took me awhile to hear it but that's really cool man
Absolutely beautiful.
That is amazingly beautiful ❤

Omartian was a phenomenal interview.
Holy notes! That is some sweet polyrhythm and harmony...
Love his album with Metheny, and especially his After Bach album was insane. What a player!
Lucky to see Brad in a beautiful small venue in the U.K. as a trio it was tight. Being close to the stage he was mesmerising.
Wow!!! Dude is an animal. Love it.
One of the most beautiful and transcendental things ive personally heard
Wow, absolutely incredible. It reminds me of pat metheney melodies
He went to my high school! He's incredible. ❤️
It was very deep thoughtful and contemplative
OMG...this is poetry!!!
That is so easy to listen and appreciate!
That is beautiful.
When will this interview be up?

Brad is the GOAT of our generation.
UNREAL
Fenomenal❤
The most simplistic description of what Jazz is.
Even after mentioning the title, Hey Joe.
I still don't recognized it?
Excellent
What is this guy this is gorgeous
Fenomenal❤😊
holy sh*t that's good
Holy holy wow
That's the most beautiful improvisation I've ever heard of a song... Makes hey joe incredibly magical! Wow... I wish there was a whole version
Hey Joe is in that clip the same way "Hey Joe" is in a bowl of alphabet soup. It's in there somewhere. Sure.
My mom sent my sister to piano lessons when I was the one who always dreamt of playing like this
I first heard a song by Brad a while back called bachelor... He doesn't compose like Herbie... But his fills and connecting the dots definitely has some Herbie in it. I like both as composers, but if I want a bigger journey on the composition, Brad read really takes you somewhere
Big fan and waiting 🙂
WOW........
Gorgeous. Reminds me of Lyle May's. As falls Wichita
Très très bon ! bravo
Scared my dog squealing when I saw this notification!
Woah.
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!! ❤😮😀🎹🎵👍🤟🎶
Che genio...bravissimo 👏
How long before he gets a shot at BBC Radio2's piano room?
Hey Joe where did you go with my melody in your hand? I can’t hear it anymore
That is so much harder than it sounds... Wow
I don't hear Hey Joe in there at all, but it's beautiful.
I don't know a great deal about Brad, but I heard many of his collaborations with other artists, namely Pat Metheny. WOW!
genius
Daaaaaaaang!👍👍👍
