While I haven't read the book he was pushing for the carnivore diet, it would have been vastly more interesting to me if it covered the downfall from eating that diet. Treat it like a proper experiment, showcase the good, the bad, and the ugly. Give people real information to make informed choices instead of pushing a narrative which may be harmful to many. It's so easy to get information out at scale today, I wish more people cared about how what they say impacts those who listen.

I met someone who did buy his book and showed me some pictures he took for reference and it's framed a lot less extremist compared to how he comes across. There's plants he deems that are lower risk as far as oxalate content and whatever and fish regarding mercury, etc. It did kind of change my mind on him a little bit, and then i watched his interview with Lillie Kane and he seems a lot more reasonable than in most of the shorts he does. It still bothers the hell out of me that his references are in vitro and animal models, though, and there are still a few holes in his logic sometimes.

Carnivore works for many because plant defense chemicals do cause problems and so do carbs. Some seem to need (quality) carbs, others do better without them. We know that those who have problems with weight usually manage to loose weight with lowering their carbs. We also know that those with Alzheimer, epilepsy and autism do good with keto diet. There is no evidence that replacing meat with vegetables is good for you. In fact the best scientific studies, observations and other evidence tells it's the opposite.
"The association between a plant-based diet (vegetarianism) and extended life span is increasingly criticised since it may be based on the lack of representative data and insufficient removal of confounders such as lifestyles."
"Worldwide, bivariate correlation analyses revealed that meat intake is positively correlated with life expectancies. This relationship remained significant when influences of caloric intake, urbanization, obesity, education and carbohydrate crops were statistically controlled. Stepwise linear regression selected meat intake, not carbohydrate crops, as one of the significant predictors of life expectancy. In contrast, carbohydrate crops showed weak and negative correlation with life expectancy."

You're wrong on so many ways, just like Lame Norton. Human diet is NOT balanced, it's supposed to be the food that we can digest without any issues, i.e. muscle meat. Any plant based is not accessible and you're adding toxins. What about fruit? the issue is sugar, which is the next thing humans should not consume, we have a well working glucose production.
Lame doesn't know what he's talking about, he's an influencer, not a scientist. And most nutrition based science papers are useless as there are too many factors and they quickly come to associations, which is NOT causality.

Before the rise of agriculture, which is only 20k years old, and not enough time has passed for us to have really adapted to a mainly processed grain diet, we ate meat, fruit, roots, nuts, berries, and some grains/cereals.
When you also look at availability of edible food stuffs, and the natural abundance of them, we clearly ate mostly meat mixed with whatever fruit and plant stuff (roots, seeds, nuts) was seasonally available.
I am grossly oversimplifying, but in the main, I stay away from anything that hasn't existed for more than the last hundred or so years, or at least keep theh to a minimum.
Surprisingly most of the veggies in the produce aisles are modern inventions. They used to be much less diverse and only used as garnish/flavor/sides. Seed oils were not mass produced. HF corn syrup wasn't added to everything, etc, etc.

      @Radjehuty Před 24 dny +2

@@PFirefly06 That's not entirely true. 20k years is actually quite a long time. It only takes a matter of a few thousand years to develop enzymes in a population as an adaptation to consume things other related animals may not. A great example is Lactose tolerance and our ability to metabolize theobromine. Both only took 3 to 5 thousand years to develop the adaptation necessary to allow us to metabolize these chemicals. Humans are incredibly successful creatures for a variety of reasons, one of them being our ability to consume quite an extreme variety of foods even by mammals' standards. 20k years is more than enough time to consider any food a healthy food group and the proof of that is the fact that the only people that were capable of thriving off those diets are the ones that lead to our existence today.

Paul in 10 years will be like: "So anyway i realised i had some nutrient and fiber deficiencies so I added some whole grain, pulses and veggies into my diet, and I reduced my fatty meat intake to reduce my LDL..." and when he reaches Mediterranean diet he'll call it the plant based carnivore diet or something lol

Great video. Im actually fully planted based (11yrs now) but felt welcome to chime in 😊. Paul has certainly been through some changes (as all passionate people tend to do) . That being said if you loom back through Ray Peats work on metabolism and higher protein its very similar to what Paul has coined Animal Based (or Joe Rogan coined it that). Ray Peat spoke of high Metabolism through sufficient carbohydrates and limiting fat to around 30-35% of total calories as a maximum (which would be more balanced macro). I think his message was shooting more for 20-25% so lower fat- but not super lowfat.
Including plenty of protein and carbs kept Thyroid and Electrolytes high and the T3 levels from what ive read was all Ray Peats Influence. Ray Peat used to speak of the Randle Cycle well before many others popularised it.
    Cheers 😊.

All of these carnivore influencers that wrote books like to act like they were the first ones. But that was really Vilhalmur Steffanson. The Fat of the Land. It’s a pretty good book. Something like 60 years old. Being carnivore can work for some people; some longer than others. I did it for four years and the ONLY reason I stopped is because I just sort lost my appetite for 3-5 pounds of meat a day. I had been in chronic pain for years and it made a huge difference! I had zero body odor. I reverse aged dramatically. I had a huge hairy mole on my back dry up and flake off. I have a very strenuous job climbing poles and pulling cable for production rates, and my numbers and therefore my pay went up significantly. My cognition improved quite a bit the first time I noticed that was because I no longer needed a gps everywhere I drove. If you had seen me before you would not think I had health issues at all. Still had abs and bicep veins, looked young for my age. But I glowed up a lot from being carnivore. I only had one blood test while I was doing it. I can’t remember exactly but my ldl was pretty high. About 180 I think. But my triglycerides were low. I did test my blood sugar several times. Always mid 80s. And I did a saliva testosterone test and it was right in the middle. Low ish T4. I got very lean and muscular, but with the loss of appetite I was losing weight at the end of the four years. My life long stomach issues were gone, and even three years later now are still greatly improved. Before I did it, I could have been considered a pretty healthy eater. Balanced whole food diet. I was always really gassy and had ibs for sure, which is a real hassle when you work outside. I was also always ravenously hungry. Being carnivore was transformative for me. One of the best decisions I’ve made in my entire life. I enjoy eating other things now, but if I start feeling any arthritis or bad brain fog or digestive issues I just eat beef and eggs for a few days and it clears right up. It’s an awesome tool for me. I’m almost 45, I’m in excellent shape. The best I have been in my life. I still work really hard, I waterski in a show, and I really enjoy having very very high energy levels. I don’t think everyone should do it out even try it. Most people can’t do it simply because it’s too hard. Their homes are full of standard American food and snacks for their families, and the temptations are too high, and it’s very socially awkward when everyone around you (who are usually very obviously metabolically unwell) are telling you you’re crazy and going to die, even when they are drinking beer and have had heart attacks etc. but I will say this: if you try it yourself because you have issues that carnivores have had success with, your opinions might change. I didn’t find out about it on social media. I didn’t even have social media. I got on social media because a friend gently suggested I try eating just meat to see if my pain would go away, which sounded ridiculous to me, but she is one of the most intelligent people I know so I tried it. Within three days I felt so so so much better I was in tears. Then I was thinking “do I have to do this forever and how am I not going to die”. Which lead me to the internet, social media, etc. that was the most negative part of the whole thing. Totally serious.

Why would you write a book on something when you haven’t even experienced the process yet? This smacks of extremism as well as making a quick buck off of a trend. I appreciate that he is now providing his experience, sharing the negative aspects, but how many people may have been misled in the process?

I was carnivore for 2.5 years after eating a S.A.D. for a lifetime. Before that though I first got rid of processed foods, breads and most snacks and lost 30 pounds in 3 months. Then I discovered carnivore and jumped right in. At first it was pretty cool as it reduced some of my IBS symptoms, dandruff and some skin issues. I also loved the simplicity of eating carnivore. However I didn't lose any more weight, energy was low and constipation was an ongoing battle. After 2.5 years of that I started incorporating vegetables and some fruits and within just a few days felt noticeably better and movements were regular. I appreciate your video but you can't say carnivore is for everyone, and you sound like the biased one.

Thanks for sharing Layne. I always find Paul’s videos amusing if not entertaining as there is little if any logic in them. Case in point, he promotes making and eating kefir as a means of improving gut flora. But then he says avoid veggies. Veggies high fibre content feeds gut flora and potentially improves gut diversity. That is accomplished by not only eating a wide divesristy of veggies, and not just fruits. While reasearch in the health benefits of a healthy gut flora is still in its infancy, based on the prevailing research, most influential people across most dietary camps(excluding carnivore) agree that having a healthy gut flora may have health benefits not previously known. A highly controversial figure , Dr William Davis even goes as far as affirming that thecresearch lends support that meat heavy diets are strongly associated with development of colorectal cancer. He also gives a funny analogy. He states that starving your gut flora by avoiding high fibre veggies is the equivalent of tieing your dog up in your backyard and not feeding it for a week. Bad things are going to happen!
