    I have both. Just sprayed on both hands to compare again. The first 20-30 min. the 2017 version is a little brighter, but after that - very minor differences. Longevity also seems comparable. It's not the end of the world...

      @@mixedpleasure4324 2017 is the more versatile version. With right application it can be used whole year round. 2012 is best suited for colder weather and slightly more formal wear

    I have just tried both of them. 2017 is brighter and long lasting. 2012 has depth. The dry down is almost the same as 2012. Thanks for the review.

  • @time4jesus
    @time4jesus Před 5 lety +15

    I've tried both, and I think that while the 2012 original gives stellar performance, it's a little boxed into Winter only by being quite linear. The 2017 reformulation opens much closer to the original Eau Sauvage and is considerably more versatile for that reason, but the drydown is practically identical to the 2012 parfum. The only time I wouldn't wear 2017 is in the high heat. They've gone with crowd pleasing versatility, which makes sense.

    Great review. One of my favorites. I prefer the 2012 due to its darker character. The Myhrr is to die for. I do like the 2017, just not quiite as much as the 2012.

  • @philosophyandfragrancej.j.6493

    I always heard 2012 is much better, I used 2012 for two years and this Spring I bought 2017. I sprayed both at same time on my hands, IMO they are 99% similar, 2017 opens a little bit more citrusy but for 20mins, and longevity of 2012 is more but about 30-45 mins. I love both, I don't see huge difference. 💚

    Both are amazing. Demachy was trying to go for making something that smells halfway between the eau Sauvage EDT and the Eau Sauvage Parfum from 2012. 2017 is quite similar, just a tad more fresh.

    I have a full 200 mil bottle of the 2012 just because it reminds me of my dad. He use to wear the old one all the time .
    I also bought the 2017 version too because it looks like the original , so i have a mix of both.
    The similar smell and the similar look of the older one.
    Both smell great to me , barely distinguishable to my nose. The 2012 lasts about an hour or so longer on me and the 2017 is more of a bang of citrus in the opening but after that , in the air they are identical to me.

    it sure has elemi and the 2012 has myrrh because myrrh is much more rare and expensive that's the main reason of discontinuation of this one and fahrenheit absolute too, they used elemi because it has some similarities with myrrh. BTW i have the eau sauvage parfum 2012 and is one of the best frags out there.

    There seem to be a lot of bottles kicking around at local sephora's of the 2012 version thats where I got mine they had a few left and I know of others snagging them up from different sephora locations.
    As far as the reformulation of 2012 I read in an article somewhere that it has to do with a couple of the raw materials for the notes one being that myrrh resin was no longer able to be obtained or the price was inflated to the point dior just said nope not cost effective anymore time to redo it 😢 unfortunately for us cause 2012 version is a stunner of a release.

He was 1 of those ppl that wouldn't tell u what his 'signature' scent was! He wouldn't even tell my bro! 15 yrs later, I chased a guy down in a mall to find out it was yup, Eau Savage. The 2012 version to my nose it on another level, a WAY higher level. I recently scored a 100ML bottle at my local Sephora. I spotted it on a top shelf tucked away in the corner. I grabbed it an noticed a heavy layer of dust on the plastic wrap...YES!!!! You are mine, all MINE. $105 but well worth if. I did a quick search of the Sephora on-line site and it shows out of stock but a few stores in S. Cal show they still have it. Problem with Sephora is they won't mail anything if it's in one of their retail stores. The only way to purchase is to walk in and buy it. I got super lucky.

  • @jonathangoodman2636

    Though less dense, the new ESP projects more, and the lingering slight sweetness of added lavender and citron gives this the edge, a superior Eau Sauvage. Now why so hard to find??!!

  • @SyedShah-hg7mi
    @SyedShah-hg7mi Před 6 lety +2

    I found this comment by the Perfumer of the new 2017 version on the Dior website. "The Eau Sauvage Parfum is even more pleasurable. With this rounder version, even closer to the original signature, I wanted to highlight the authenticity of the ingredients. To show their strength, but also reveal their warmth by rendering them even more prominent and palpable." François Demachy, Dior Perfumer-Creator
    As far the replacement of the Myrrh note, the following comment by the Perfumer would suffice. "Native to the Philippines, essence of elemi is produced by distilling the resin of the tropical elemi tree, a member of the same botanical family as myrrh and frankincense.
    Its peppery, lemony fragrance brings a spicy, radiant freshness to the top notes"
    I have both versions in 200ml bottles and a 200ml backup of the 2012 version.

    I honestly don't see a huge difference between the 2, but if you can get your hands on the 1966 edt with the silver cap, there definitely is a massive difference, especially with that oakmoss in the base. Never had the opportunity to own a bottle (although I did wear it once), but I do have the 2012 formulation with the black insignia and it's basically a strong blast of dark lemony myrrh on my skin. Simple, mature and very sophisticated even for today. Fantastic performance that absolutely crushes my TdH edp any day of the week. It also happens to be one of the most dated-smelling scents to my nose, so to all those young guys out there, beware.

    In my opinion though I like the 2017 version, the 2012 version is the better of the two. If one or both (god-forbid) are going to be discontinued, then I will no longer use CD parfum, but switch entirely over to Penhaligons.

    KING KOUROS is MUCH BETTER but KING KOUROS is for the SHEPHERD only and is NOT not for the sheep.
    I have worn this LEGEND since the 1981 launch and still wear it today. I’ve spent £thousands on different fragrances over the years but the TRUTH never lies and I ALWAYS come back to KING Kouros.
    Tip:
    Buy from BOOTS (only) because it’s virtually the same as the original mind blow 80s version, just gotta shake each time before use to keep all the notes mixed properly! Then it smells absolutely amazing on the opening! and then its projection/performance/longevity/dry down is also absolutely gorgeous!...... it’s known as KING KOUROS for a reason.
    It’s also the ULTIMATE women panty dropper TRUST ME! 10/10.

So I recently ordered Dior Sauvage to my local chemist and this bottle arrived as being shown in the white box, but I was expecting the black round bottle that everyone else features.
