- I arrived very late on the disc brake scene, with my main reason for hesitating being the fear of having to maintain them - I'm bad enough with rim brakes!
So, the time has finally come that I need to give my SRAM Force Hydraulic Disc Brakes a bit of love and fit some new pads!
Enjoy.

Still a valuable video. Thanks mate from NZ 🤙🏼
Great video
Excellent, that worked. Many thanks, much better than the "official" SRAM video.
Well done, I have to replace my first set of worn organic Sram Force 1 pads. Super simple, much appreciated, replacement pads on order!!
Pads arrived this morning, your video was the piece of the puzzle I was missing mate, cheers! Off to make coffee and change pads.
Just ordered new brake pads for my gravel rig. Was going to take it to a shop. Looks like it’s pretty simple to do. Going to try it myself!
Honestly, Just started watching your videos and I love them. And now they have even more relevance for me, since my new Planet X Disc bike just arrived today. Keep up the good work.
Hi Frederik, thank you so much. Congratulations on your new bike, I'm sure you're going to love it. 👍🏽
Thanks mate, i was replacing my brakes too and did not know hwat to do with that little piece of metal you put in at last. great vid!
Just changed my SRAM brakepads with this....who needs a bike shop appointment (can't get one for 3 weeks anyway) ! BTW I found it useful to use levels/ large flat screwdriver on the pads once fitted and before the wheel was replaced.
Thanks buddy just had to fix my pads as took off wheel and metal bracket bent - first disk bike your video helped me sort it
Simple, useful demo. Thanks :-)
Just off to fit mine. Thanks for the best instruction on this type.
Excellent video. Very clear presentation. Thank you for doing.
thanks for the video, Excellent, much better than the "official" SRAM video.
Thank you for the tire iron advice. You really saved me 😊
Good man, simple instructions
The most important tool not mentioned was the bike stand....lol..makes things so much easier.
Very good point 👍🏽
Very helpful
I always clean the pistons and exercise the pistons before I push the pistons in when replacing pads
I recently purchased official SRAM pads and they were also missing the piston tool (despite the image on the website that I ordered from showing one)
so helpful ty
Brilliant
Cheers!
Thanks for the video. Helpful! One remark I would make here: noticed that when you try to install spring clip, you were touching pad surface with your bare hands. I would use gloves as you may transfer some oils from your hands on pads.
I think your amazing dude 😆👍
Haha. Oh man, I’m really going to regret saying that at the end of the video now!
thanks ❤
Thanks. I love SRAM components, but the manufacturer is very bad in providing manuals or video instructions. I had to gamble which brake pads to choose for replacing mine and the official SRAM video is lousy. Nobody told me but I found out that the brake pads for Rival and Apex are similar (and very different from the ones SRAM shows). Contrastingly, your video was better than clear enough.
Thanks it helped ;)
You are amazing and I thought it was amazing 😉
😂😂😂. Back at ya, bro!
My pistons retract back nearly flush (.5mm) but they spring back out like a pneumatic system making the space between the new pads too small to fit the rotor. I've watched a ton of videos and I think there might be a release valve on the lever. Going to try and space the pistons back fully and then apply some pressure while having a ridged spacer. If the pistons stay, that will confirm for me that there is a step missing from most of the videos online. I'll comment on my own comment here if it works.
Yup. I think I'm correct. I added a 3/8" aluminum flat between, pressed both sides in and the pistons came out to press against the bar holding it firm. Lightly pressed the brake lever and it held the bar solid but a little wiggle and now the pistons are staying retracted! New pads fit perfect. I think there is a step missing with pad replacement.
Good video! Pretty sure my disc simply isn't straight :/.
You never pushed the pistons back in !
I did using the tyre levers. 👍🏽
