- D9009 (55009) hauls the Hull & Leeds Executive tour.
The first shot of D9009 is on a footbridge just outside Peterborough, we see the beast thunder towards London working 1Z11.
Next we see her storm through Peterborough Railway Station heading north on 1Z13. A nostalgic shot indeed...
Nothing oozes power yet 'friendliness' like a Deltic! Great video - thanks.
I miss these old deltics 🥲
2 of the most powerful engines a 55 and 68 is always a spectacular show
I keep coming back to watch your Peterborough clip… truly magnificent to see a Deltic back on its old stomping ground, doing what it does best and sounding just wonderful..!
Its even worth a “Bravo, Sir! Bravo!”…! 👏🏻👏🏻🎶🎶🎶
😆
I'm glad you enjoy! Thanks for commenting 😀
Fabulous Clag, Beautiful sound of the Napier 🎼🎶Proper trains from Back in the day ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very good lovely sounding locomotives.
Fabulous Deltic! Fabulous sound - thank you.
Indeed, I love them. Such a unique sound aswell. Thanks for watching
@@JheoFaul66709 Thank you for sharing your fabulous video 👍
Wow that’s amazing great to see d9009 returning back to the east coast mainline since the 1970s
Indeed, they're amazing locomotives. Thanks for watching
Thank u mate
Brilliant footage there, love the sound! thanks.
Great film
Cheers mate 🙂
The first number i.e. 1 is a Passenger express service meaning it has righter way to the railway lines rather than a commute service or freight train service, the 2nd on the code Z appear to be an excursion service working in which this loco was hauling the last 2 numbers is the train service number which could be any 2 numbers, the letter Z was also used for some British Rail trains back in the 70/80's during many passenger services.
Great video and TOP DRIVER!
Just as I remember the mighty Deltics coming though Peterborough as a youngster.
Running on both engines too. That's a rarity these days. 👍
WOW! Excellent video mate!
Cheers mate
Awesome video. It's a bit annoying that the driver sounded the horn and drowned out the sound of the engines! 1:30
I was in that trip. Great day. Thanks for the video
No worries thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed :)
Were you the one guy flailing 😂
Great footage. But the second clip was just pure Deltic porn at its finest! That sorrowful yet imperious horn tone.. Superb!
You have a like and a sub.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed. Much appreciated :)
Great video, that second shot was a thing of beauty :D
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed :)
Great shots
9021ASH Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed :)
Fantastic👍 Pity about the scalectrix stuck on the back.
If it didn't keep breaking down it wouldn't need it
Out of all the modern locos the Cats aren't bad. Got a great sound to em when working hard, much more so than the 66s or 70s
What an engine! We would have needed such strong and fast machines here in Germany. After the decline of steam, heavier fast trains had always to be pulled in double traction, on some remaining not electrified lines this happens until today. For a single 55 no problem at all! We should have imported some 50 or 150 of them. What I cannot understand: The British themselves built only some 25 or so. Why? In my opinion there was in those times for european purposes no better engine availible at all.
Ironically my friend, the engine was based on the Junkers Jumo diesel aero engine.
nickweiserfolz the Deltics were made for use on the East Coast main line, between kings cross and Aberdeen, as a replacement for the A4 Pacifica. Other regions used other makes, transmissions and power sources.
Ironically nicmweiserfolz the engine is based on the Junkers Jumo diesel aircraft engine, with a bit of a tweak
They made 22 of these beauties
22 Deltics to replace 34 A4s+No10000.
Pure magic
Nigel Stevenson Indeed, Thank you very much :)
Nice video !!
Thank you very much :)
Great video and thank you... don't want to be the killjoy here but it's really hard to find clips of Deltic action where the sound of the engines aren't drowned out by the unnecessary use of the horns. My advice to the drivers.... leave it alone!
Thank you and although I do like the funny horn on them I do agree with you. Cheers for watching
I guess they're just acknowledging the bashers but they could sound the horn early or better still just wave.
Some places such as before a crossing you have to to warn those who might be crossing the line.
カッコいい❗️、そのディーゼル機関車、好きです。
A pity they couldn't make up the train without the 13th century buffet carriage! 🤪
The intro music - is it from the Get Carter film?
I nicked it from an old ONE Anglia Railway video about dispatching
Nice one mate, return headcode was 1Z13
Cheers mate I just assumed that the one it was displaying was what it is like when it was 1Z11, sorry I couldnt make it to London, I couldn't afford it
No worries
the two head codes displayed was 1Z11 and 1Z12 I don't know what video you were watching but it didn't show any appearance of head code 1Z13
Hi everybody , I'm a bit new to all this , can someone explain what the IZ numbers determine plz ?
The first number i.e. 1 is a Passenger express service meaning it has righter way to the railway lines rather than a commute service or freight train service, the 2nd on the code Z appear to be an excursion service working in which this loco was hauling the last 2 numbers is the train service number which could be any 2 numbers, the letter Z was also used for some British Rail trains back in the 70/80's during many passenger services
Noice!!!!!
Thnks BOII!
Familiar territory!
Second one is 1Z12 on the headcode.
I did originally put 12 but aparently this service was 1Z13. I think 1Z12 was when it was shunting around in London but I don't know
@@JheoFaul66709 The joys of British Rail lol
The Deltics were introduced exactly at a time when they should have electrified the railways. Instead British rail was almost "dieselized to death". An elderly friend of mine who is a life-long railway enthusiast and retired British rail driver said it best: "I love the Deltics but they should never have been built".
Everybody likes this locomotive but in reality it is a symbol of failure.
The dieselisation was also chosen back in the days as future traction power here in Denmark. We didn't have hydropower like our Scandinavian brothers, so GM engined Swedish engines were the backbone in Danish railways and to some extent still is. But the time has caught up on the old behemoths and people don't care for the pollution when they travel through Copenhagen. The sound is fantastic though
@@Runeakb True! But it's still a mess in Denmark. Out of the 2560 km of danish railways only 642 km are electrified. The main reason why that's so annoying isn't even the pollution. It's simply technologically backwards. But all in all I think a diesel train is still better than no train at all.😊
@@MarioStahl1983 railways have been severely underfinanced for many years here in Denmark. We harvest the results now🙂
@@Runeakb how ironic! Especially as Denmark is touted as a model for its renewable energy sector. So all countries are flawed, just in different ways... What's the situation with rail freight?
@@lawrence18uk rail freight is limited to (I think!, there might be exceptions) transit trains coming and going to Sweden and Germany. So there is not that much shunting going on anywhere as, say, 30 years ago. Sadly. Where I grew up there is a steel mill, and the steel slabs were shipped off with trains. Apparently this was not profitable compared to shipping by lorry! I really didn't understand that! So I think around 2002 it changed. Countless lorries are needed to substitute just one train, and the roads got stressed to an extent that it might have been a great expense for the communities and counties. I guess these expenses were not included in the profitability calculation.
what was the song at the beginning
King Gizzard and the lizard wizard : Rattlesnake
Why is there also a locomotive on the front. I saw it like that again once with a steam excursion. Steam train on the front a new diesel loco on the back.
Timetables for main lines don't seem to have a lot of fault tolerance which means a failed train stranded on the line can cause big problems. Adding an in-service locomotive on the back of a heritage train is a backup which can hopefully drag the failed train off of the main line.
who owns the beautiful coaches?
Riviera Trains, finally painted them from the scabby virgin stock.
are these kept at Burton!?
I believe they are in that area (either there or Barrow Hill). They used to be at Crewe until they sold the depot.
They are owned by riviera trains. Based at Burton Upon Trent. To be exact Burton on Trent wetmore sidings. Hope this helps u. Regards Life_On_Rails
How reliable were they compared to steam trains
Can't really answer as I weren't around although I reckon they were. I can say they'd probably have required less maintenance and are more efficient . Thanks for your comment, hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help
@@JheoFaul66709 was just something popped into my head reliability of them
Thunders along you mean makes a lot of noise?
Same difference
@@JheoFaul66709 Where did you learn English ?? thunders along implies speed that was VERY sedate for a Deltic
@@michaelshore2300 thunder is loud, deltic was loud... I'm using thunder as a verb to describe something that made a lot of noise. What more is there to say.
2nd half much better 👍
Looked to be doing at least 100mph in the last clip, maybe 110 😀
I'd say about 85mph.
Great video I have subscribed hope it helps
Thank you very much, it does indeed :)
And when you really, REALLY want to hear thaat engine . . . the bloody driver leans on the horn for as long as possible!
Got to keep the kids happy!
Always the one idiot sticking their head out of the window.
gorgeous!
I captured her at Lincoln, checkout my latest vid
Cheers, Oi'll ava look :)
Ahem not exactly thunder!!
beautiful until the end WHY was that pile of SHIT on the back
Indeed, it was annoying they stuck that thing on the rear, I can only think it was for ETH but I dont know, but thanks for commenting :)
Does the delly not have ETH anymore?
MrJimbaloid I'm not sure
Mega vids though mate.
Thanks very much :)
its nothing like a Bullet train or a TGV , its slow , dirty and ugly 🙂
You know a loco is unreliable when it has another modern diesel on the rear...what a piece of junk!
nice hate bait mate, I rate 8/8
You must be under 30 years of age!
@@mt5144 Fifty seven actually, which makes me old enough to recognise unreliable rubbish when I see it. (Did they really replace tried and tested steam locomotives with this fragile machinery? No wonder they couldn’t sell it to the Yanks!)
You know a poster is an uninformed, ignorant fool when he posts garbage like that!
Sorry, was I watching a rail video or a pop video? Shockingly poor production. 0/10. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much for your helpful input
