An (85ish) elderly, retired neighbor was moving at least 30 years ago, using a company to run a yard/moving sale. A woman came over to me to ask for help moving heavy stuff up from their basement during set-up. I helped and she then asked if I saw anything I wanted. I pointed to an old Craftsman tool chest without even looking in it. She said, "How's $35 sound?" I paid, no problem, and then broke my butt carrying it. It was stuffed with all Snap On -- everything! A ton. My Dad passed a few years later and all of his SK & Herbrand tools were inherited by me. Three top brands in my book for working on all 7 of my cars.

Snap on guys are great salesman. I like they always have these demos. I was half convinced I needed mantis tweezers in case I ever dropped a piece of plastic down a tube.
The same kind of demo sold me on my screwdrivers. I thought the guy was nuts when he told me the price for the set. He said go get any screwdriver you want from the shop and come back, I got a big craftsman screwdriver and some others and came back, he had a thing to connect two flat blade screwdriver and whoever was holding the snap on one could turn the other brand right out of the guys hand. Take my money!

You look like me when I go to the RC Hobby shop. I know you use your toys to help you with your job and to get the job done better, faster. I had my own small engine repair shop and when I was first getting started I would hit up sears to get everything I needed for tools. For specialized stuff,I hit the Briggs and Tecumseh dealer for tools or whatever I needed. Back when I worked in a shop,we used micro fich to acess parts look up on whatever we needed. Lol,that seems like a hundred years ago now. Now everything is computer look up and I order directly from the warehouse. I do remember my dad had a relationship with the Snapon guy,he worked on Industrial Hydraulic equipment through Clark. He had his own truck and tool box on board. That was years ago,I see they still have service trucks. Things were really changing when he finally retired as far as technology.

Snap-on and Proto were the only companies who had an industrial/technical program and made the sometimes really tiny drivers like a T-4 we needed to work on certain systems that didn't break or deform the first time you used them. Now they are a common tool, but 35 years ago they were extremely hard to get. I learned a good rep makes your life so much easier and I hope Neil can take care of you for years to come.
I still have most of my Snap-on and Proto tools, too. However I'm still trying to figure out why they include that gigantic slotted driver in every set they sell, though I did take mine, wrap it in electrical tape and use it as a high tech prybar.

Those 1/4 turn socket trays are AMAZING! I have two of them, BUT I did a small modification that nearly doubled their capacity. I added standard socket rails in between the twist rails by drilling holes through the steel plate and bolted them to them. Once people in the shop saw that, everyone had one and did the same. Makes moving and securing sockets easy.

I put in a ticket with Snap-on Diagnostics to add the Oil Life Reset every upgrade b/c it annoyed me lower price scanners had it and Snap-on didn't. I had the same 16-2 upgrade & get the 16-4 for free in GA also for my Verus Edge...nice deal. I upgaded to 16-4 a few weeks ago with an enormous amount of updates & it's sweet. I do that every year so I pay for only one upgrade but get both. My Snap-on rep has the inventory on his truck and then he has a 35' trailer full of deals he has another person follow him around on Mondays. That is a dangerous truck for me to get into b/c I never come out empty. My rep Scott makes me killer deals that he knows I can't refuse...he know my weakness but he takes care of me. Every Christmas I get @$200 Snap-on winter jacket gift and loads of free t-shirts, socks, etc thru the year plus I get free tickets for 2 to the NHRA drag race & VIP tickets to the Snap-on Funny Car tent of Cruz Pedregon...sweet! Nice video and the good thing about this is I got to go inside a Snap-on truck and come w/o a bill :-)

Thanks for clearing up what I figured was how it worked, so the Snap-On truck is owned by the sales-rep as well correct? The actual sales rep fits the vehicle how he wants with the tools he wants, or is there a set of rules they have to go by as to what tools they have to stock and how many? This would be a great video with Neil actually, have him explain to us less fortunate on how that all works, I'm sure he can't say prices of course, that's not really relevant, but like what he had to do to get started, what he has to stock according to Snap-On etc.

    • @CoyleTools
      @CoyleTools Před 5 lety +7

Snap-On, Matco, Mac and Cornwell are all franchise companies. The individual franchisees own and operate their own businesses, then pay a franchise fee to those companies to sell their brands. There are very, very long contracts and franchise agreements to which they must agree that dictate products they can sell, where they can source them from, where they can operate, who they can sell to... the list goes on and is very long. The long and short of it is they (we) all own our own companies and trucks, and have to purchase all of the inventory ourselves. There are no freebies because the dealer is actually the customer of the corporation, and the end consumer is the customer of the dealer. As an independent tool dealer (and former franchise owner) myself, I don't have those types of restrictions and am not bound by any contracts. But like any retail operation, I have to buy all of my inventory. The franchise guys are bound by non-disclosure agreements, so they can't give you any trade secrets, but they can tell you how it works in broad terms.

Neil's a good guy and I'd buy from him. Back when I worked in a shop, our Snap-On guy was not a good guy and it made me really regret giving him my money. For example he used to say stuff like "How'd you break this???" or "I can't keep coming out here to fix this same tool." Back when I had a new off the line fine tooth 3/8 ratchet that kept slipping. I'd always buy something from him when he'd roll up but still he'd act like he was doing me a favor.
There was a pretty well stocked Home Depot and Lowes in short driving distance from the shop, of course not even close to the same quality but I was young and my expensive ratchet kept letting me down, I was compelled to go buy a $20 one to keep going.
Now-a-days I have a small pile of broken Snap-On tools that I'd love to get fixed but at the same time It would cost more to ship it all to Snap-On then to go down and buy new stuff at the local gettin' spot. It's a real dilemma.

i had the same problem at the local Harley Davidson dealership, except their stuff costs a hundred bucks a pop. One time I bought a temp gauge that bolted to my brake lever cover. It was the size of a half dollar, the price tag $100.00. It should cost $35.00 or less. You are paying for the name brand.

      Hello, Eric
I replaced the Blower Motor RESISTOR on my 2008 Focus sedan
...because changing from Fan Dial Speed #2 to #3 there is no increase in speed.
Changing up to speed#3 maintains the same speed as setting #2 (so basically it as if i had never even moved it off of fan speed #2)
However fan speed #1-#2 their is a speed increase and going to fan speed #4 is fastest.
So when i changed the resistor i didn't find any difference going from #2 to #3.
I was wondering what is the solution or fix to this? Blower motor perhaps?
