Finally something good to watch during these tragic times, thanks brother.
agreed!!!!!
Richard, you are STILL my favorite fishing show. God bless you and Moma Sue!
We always called that rig “a popper and a dropper!” Deadly set up most days. Thanks Richard
Omg I clicked so fast! My grandpa gave me his old fly rods and I searched for richards fly fishing videos about a week ago and nothing but now this!
Same! My dad just gave me one of his old ones, I'm excited to start practicing my casts and catch some fish!
That methods cool and all but the squirrel 🐿 Tail jig caught fish faster keep it simple And smile your fly is open for the season haaaaa
I just told my wife, I want to be like Richard Gene when I grow up, and I meant it doggone it
exactly this
Cause it's good fer ya! DOGGONE WOOOOOOOOOO!
Richard Jean the fishing machine
I want to be like him also but I'm already grown
This tip works. Here it is Nov. 26, 2023, 47 degrees outside Ft Payne. Pond fly fishing. What a morning catching and releasing. The trailer fly idea is spot on. I just found this video Saturday evening. Yay!
Thanks for the fly fishing trip. It reminded me of going to Wyoming to fish with my new brother in law nearly forty years ago. Your much better at fly fishing than I was. My brother in law explained to me quickly the fly fishing was for tourists and people in Wyoming fish with worms. We caught some nice trout in small creeks with plain old earth worms. Probably saved him a fly rod.
Thank you for lifting everyone’s spirits when times are tough.
John from Waxahachie Tx.
I fish the same way when bluegills are on beds, it’s a blast. I had two crazy things happen last year. A 4 pound small mouth on popping bug, and a 22 pound buffalo carp. Had to chase both with trolling motor.
And if you don’t have that you wouldn’t have caught it that’s awesome man
Richard Gene been watching your videos for quite a while and don't think I've ever stopped to say thanks for all the laughs and fishing content.
So, thanks man.
Back in the 1960's I used a popper similar to that called a Glo Popper, bought at a local store in Paducah, Ky. They did glow alright but on Kentucky Lake they were fantastic all day long. Now I have to get that old Shakespeare Fly Rod out and dust it off. Thank you for the great videos RG!
I must say I'm impressed with your willingness to explore the fly fishing game. Skillful enough right out of the gate to start "catching" immediately. Good stuff, Ricardo !!
Thanks for taking me fishing with you Richard while I’m working from home. Whoo!
Without Him, we’re nothing! Best advice!
Without God we’re nothing
Do some more fly fishing Richard. I can only watch this video so many times 😂😂😂 Love the work you do, thanks for reinvigorating my love for fishing.
I haven't fly fished for more than 15 years! You really put a hankering on me to get my old rod and reel out and start back on it! Woooo!
Without him we are nothing...I use that almost every time I pray! Just bought a fly rod last week and it is sooooo fun. Thanks for the fun videos.
Oh yeah, tell Elmo it will all be OK.
This was the only way my grandfather would fish for pan fish. He got me hooked on it when I was about 13. It's an absolute blast.
That’s some fancy fishing Richard Gene. You have the most enjoyable fishing videos on CZcams. They remind me of watching Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston when I was a kid.
You are always on time. I recently purchased my first fly rod and I've been looking for all the training I get. Well, you came through just like you always do. I appreciate what you do.
I’m sure you’ve already seen this but mad river outfitters has a plethora of fantastic and helpful information about starting out in fly fishing, I’m starting my journey now and I’m fortunate to have access to it so early on
There's in depth videos on fly fishing how to cast and rig them. Watch a bunch of times. Then, get a practice rubber lure, go to a football field, and practice. 😊
Thanks Richard! Thanks for all of the great videos!
Love his enthusiasm and love for fishing a true fishing machine
I just got my first fly rig for Fathers Day and immediately went to your page. Did this exact rig and caught a mess of brim and a 2lbs largemouth on my first day. Thanks a million Gene !!
Love ya Richard Gene! Your vids are not only entertaining, but informative as well, and there is not another channel that I watch that puts so many smiles on my face as yours. Good health to you and yours, and keep em coming!
Yessss! Finally!!! Get you some little clouser minnows Richard and go after them crappie with the new fly rod.
Richard, I’m relatively new to fly fishing but I followed your advice tonight and hooked up a dozen bluegill in less than 40 mins using this method! Thanks you for making my summer fishing in my backyard more active!
This place is magical, has beautiful fish, congratulations fisherman your fishing was incredible.
*HUG!!!* 👍😎
This brings back a lot of memories of me and my uncle going to guntersville during the mayfly hatch. We would always stop a Cricket Hall and get a card full of popping flys to fish with. I appreciate you doing this video.
"I'm a beginner", he said. I understand what you were trying to say, but when it comes to catching a fish......Richard Gene wasn't a beginner even when he began. We love ya Richard Gene!
Who in the world disliked this video. You got issues bro. I love ya Richard. I am trying to get better at fishing at Lake Weiss and you help me more than anyone on CZcams. Thank you and God bless you.
My new favorite fishing channel!!!!! Your an absolute blast to watch !!!! 🤘🏻
Loving Richard Gene learning the popper dropper. Best ever!
Richard, I've followed you since I started fishing and you've been a constant inspiration. My fishing journey has led me to be an avid fly fisherman (although I fish with spinning gear plenty still) but I have to say it makes me so happy to see you using a fly rod! Love the cane rod and telescopic rod videos too. Grateful for you and your passion for fishing, it always makes me happy to watch your videos. Please do another small creek adventure soon!
Dad and I always used red worms on a long shank hook with our fly rods. We called the thick headed bluegills,”Grillaknots”, and they were a blast to catch! Thanks for bringing back the memory of my father and I spending time together on the water. Stay blessed!!
Yesssss bro I feel like this man is talking to me like he is fishing with me it’s great😂
Thanks for all you do I love watching your videos. You are the GOAT!!!
Ive only started watching you at the start of this week and honestly mate I enjoy all your videos!! The great thing is Im learning things along the way while watching your videos i might be able to put some of your ideas and tricks of the trade into my fishing style here in North Queensland australia!! Keep up the great work mate👍
Richard Gene the fly fishing machine. Love fishing this way.
Best dog gone channel on CZcams. Richard is a serious fisherman with a great sense of humor. Wooooo!
Oh man that shop too. That place looks great!
I grew up fishing creeks and ponds with ultralight tackle and fly rods. Big shell crackers and bluegill were for eating, and smallmouth were for fighting and releasing. The first rod I bought my wife was a fly rod and we would spend hours with popping bugs and cook fish for our friends and later our kids and friends. Love to see you changing it up and bringing back old memories.
It’s so nice to watch a channel where your not a fishing snob. A real fisherman likes the challenge of catching all species of fish. Thanks Richard.
Loved it man, good for you re-learnin'!
Woooo! I love it. Keep’em coming Richard.
Mr. Gene you are truly a treasure to CZcams and more importantly to the sport of fishing. God bless
Keep them videos coming Richard! Thanks 🙏🏽 for entertaining us during these times
Man Richard you are an amazing fisherman and thank you for all of your advice you've helped me catch more fish this year than I ever have in my life God bless you and Mama Sue as well have a great career on CZcams I know you will you're one of the best
i havent fly fishied in many months, but i think now i'll go next week
Thanks Richard for the fly trip! My dad used to trout fish in North Georgia using worms and corn but on a fly rod because of the reach. A friend took me last fall to a trophy stream, showed me some basics and turned me loose. Like most fishermen I came home and bought an Orvis combo. Going to get after some bluegill. I appreciate the videos and your testimony. God's blessings
Mr Richard your the best thing on CZcams
“I will get good at it” he’s committing? HELL YES
It’s so good to see another fisherman having fun I just love your videos man. I mostly bottom fish for catfish and carp now but I grew up on the Stockton delta bank fishing for stripper and sturgeon. At a certain point I started float tubing with a nine foot nine weight fly Rod and those stripper would tow me around while I reeled them in that was fun. Watching you fish with light line made me go get a light spinning Rod and that is a lot of fun after years of heavy ugly stiks for cats. Fishing is where I feel close to nature. I’m an OTR Trucker and I keep a Rod in the truck so I’m always ready just pick up a day license and go. Thank you for these videos.
Hey Richard! Love seeing you use the long rod to catch bream! The popper-dropper combination has been my favorite for years and is a slayer here in Louisiana. Keep practicing and you'll catch a bunch with that long rod! Thanks for the video. I love going fishing (virtually) with you when I can't be out on the water!
LOVE THE VIDEOS RICHARD! NEVER STOP!!!
Thank you Richard I think I too will be trying fly fishing! God bless!!
Just awesome! Keep’m coming Richard.
This man right here got me back to fishin again - keep the videos comin
Richard you make my day no matter how rough it gets ( I'm in the medical field) you ALWAYS make me feel better. God bless you 😇
Thanks again for a wonderful and informative video, tell you what I need to get out my fly rod. See ya on the water Mr. Richard
I have fly fished floating, & sinking flies before. I WISH I was smart enough to have thought to do BOTH on the same rod! AWESOME video my friend!
Learning and laughing at the same time. Love it love it keep your hooks wet!
Wow! So much fun. I haven't fished much in my adult life but growing up we fished for Bluegill full floating with "poppin'" bugs. No nymph, just a single cork bug.
Thanks for the memories.
Richard I love the different techniques u use its a pleasure to watch you coming to you from Lenoir Nc foot hills
Instant like! Love the videos Richard! This is the best fishing channel on CZcams. It's not even close. "WOOOOOOOOOOO!"
One of my fondest memories is my dad teaching me how to use a fly rod. His stuff got stolen and I never could remember what we used till seeing this video. Thank you for bringing back the memory
My favorite method of fishing, love to hear and see that top water strike.
That is my 89 year old dads favorite fishing. Every May I take a week off work when the spawn starts. I take my dad fishing every day. We have never used tippers and leaders. We use 10lb mono. It helps float the spiders better and will rip them off lily pads and reeds without breakin. It doesn't seem to effect the fish any. We use Betts black sponge spiders. When we hit it right. We catch between 100-200 Big Bluegills each day. We only keep 6 a day and no more than 3 off one set of beds. Also won't keep anything over 9.5 inches.
I think this video finally convinced me to go and get a fly rod. Looking forward to more videos of you catchin em on the fly!
Thank you Richard. Great video that encourages me to using a fly rod like I did many years ago. Instead of a nymph , we’d sometimes use a number 8 hook and a cricket or piece of worm. Love the scripture in the description. Praise God!
Love it. I had a few old fly baits of my dad's and used them till they fell apart. Could kick myself lol but caught alot of fish.
Every time I get the notification I get happy. Love to watch these
I'm convinced Richard Gene is the Bob Ross of Fishing. It's all about the peace and joy of fishing.
I enjoy your videos man. I'm trying to learn more about fly fishing so I look forward to more videos like this. Catching red breast on a fly rod is crazy fun.
Big fan for a while! Keep up the good work!
He really is a fishing machine! One of the best for sure.
Everytime i watch one of your videos it makes my day that much brighter !
I love fly fishing for bass with poppers! So much fun, especially when you get a biggin on there... 🤗
That was awesome! Gotta get a flyrod
Fly tying is my favorite thing to do but fly fishing is Awsome, thanks for the video Richard Gene👍
Great video, can't watch enough of it.
Thanks for this video sir, been wanting to learn how to use flies for gills
Fly rod fishing for bass is so much fun! Keep these fly rod videos coming!
Always look forward to your videos, thank you, i love fly fishing
That was a great video, Richard....looks like you are pretty good with the fly rod again already!
I can’t wait to get my first fly rod one day. Keep posting these to give us some great content. Love your vids old
Man :)
Great video. I caught about forty bluegills yesterday on my Dad's fly rod. He showed me how to use it when I was thirteen an now I'm 49. I used a small hook and a chartreuse one inch gulp minnow. Gulp minnows are great. I love the dual fly set up. I'll try it next time. Thanks Richard.
Richard Gene for President! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 thank you sir for bringing happiness into this world when we need it the most. Bless you and your family
I have been looking at a fly rig setup. Think you just sealed the deal for me on it. Love your Videos . I have learned a lot from you.
Awesome Video Richard! Also, it is great to see you promoting the gentlemen with the fly shop!
Thank you! Loved it!
I have three fly rods, an Eagle Claw nine foot, an Eagle Claw fly/spin five piece backpack rod and a handmade split bamboo #5 that I had a friend make just for panfish. Now, thanks to Richard, I’ve got to use them. Doggonnit.
Gene i want you to know i almost get more enjoyment out of watching you and Elmo than i do fishing . Thanks for all ya'll do !!
I've fly-fished for bream for 50 years. I like using the rig you did today but still like the popper alone. I've started fishing out of a kayak which really changes your presentations. I've had to work on my roll casting for narrow creeks. There is nothing like catching a Smalley on a light tackle. From Pickwick Lake, have a good day..
Richard you are very informative and entertaining fishermen enjoy your videos can’t wait until the next time 👍🏽
I've never tried that before but I may look into it, looks like a lot of fun.
Keep it up, Richard! Fly fishing, as you said, is definitely a sport. But just as much, it’s an art that’s tough to master at times. I’ve been fly fishing for at least 10 years and still consider myself a beginner. Would love to see you catch a big bass on a fly rod!
You are the greatest. I am a veteran and you make my fishing so much better. Thank you. Hope I can fish with you one day.
Still a great teacher of fishing styles and systems but "Crazzzzzzy In Love With Going Fishing As Ever!!!!!!"
So excited to watch you progress at fly fishing! It's something I've been interested in but too scared to try since i live in the south and not many people do it
Awesome video ,definitely looks like fun will have to try
First Time Ever Seeing A BlueGill Blow Up On CZcams ❤️🎣
Awesome video as always!
