Spooned last season, and it really helped. The only thing is you have to be careful and keep the tops trimmed back a little bit so the wind doesn't topple the plant over with the loss of support. But I think this is why my onions were the size of softballs. Thanks for the great tip.

Hi Jordan, I would spoon them once they are established (if you are transplanting seedling you want them to be stable and strong). I would just make sure I do it before the bulb starts to increase in size but not so early that they fall over. Thanks for watching and the question.

Thanks art, correct I also will use my fingers, some dont like the dirt under the finger nails so spoon is perfect.
