Bought one this week! 2000 Z3 2.3, 5 speed, red exterior, black interior. Was in shock when I discovered no interior issues, no rust, paint job like new! I will replace headlights with the Angel Eyes however. This is a keeper!

I have a 2000 with a active supercharger making 450hp to the wheels.
I hope it isn’t the one in our shop
No it's not .
What supercharger.? And how much was the upgrade.?
@@gaellimas7390 I got it all done at active autowork in Miami the total was around 10k.
I have a 2000 blue one. Have never seen another. I love this car.
I’ve had my 2002 M Roadster for 16 years. I’m at 183,000 and she still pulls like when I first got her. That being said I completely sheared my rear subframe in 2012 but RandyForbes sent me his kit and the best people on the west coast to maker her stiffer and stronger than ever. The dual-ear diff mount adds an awesome whir that I can hear through the frame; basically if feels more like a track machine than a car for the road.
@@nels2114 if I recall correctly, it was about $4500 not including transport to SanFran to PerformanceTechnic (recommended by Randy since I lived in LA)
@@aregal $4500 ???!!! That's a total rip off... you can get it done, properly, for less than half.
@@frankvee I don’t doubt you but Randy Forbes himself told me that PerformanceTechnic was the only other shop he would trust installing his reinforcement kit other than himself. I take his word for it.
Great that you lived to tell about it.
I have a silver 2000 M roadster exactly like that. It's in the shop right now but I'm looking forward to drive it again
haha no way. my cars also a 2000
I have one that also a 2000 😂 black
BMW driving dynamics, styling and interior materials are wonderful! It's the fact that you have to keep thousands in an emergency car repair fund to ensure that you keep them on the road if it is your only car and you have to pay all of your own living expenses as well as for car maintenance.
I owned a 1999 E39 540i M Sport six speed for about 5 years. I purchased it with only 114,000 miles. The drive train was pretty solid, but all the little things that break add up to thousands of dollars due to having little to no quality aftermarket support and having to pay by the hour for repairs. By the time I sold it, it needed a timing chain service, a clutch and host of other things. I was spending about $1,000-$1,500 annually for general repairs and maintenance. The services needed at the time I sold it were far more than I paid for the car. The timing chain service along with the incidentals that are replaced at the time of service cost north of $4,000. The clutch was another $2,500 and so on. And these were prices of small independent shops, not dealership repair prices!
Most people would be better off buying a Honda S2000 or a Mazda MX-5 etc. The parts are less costly, and they don't break nearly as often. Lookup M roadster head gasket, air condition failures and vanos repairs. The costs will likely have you thinking twice about keeping this car unless you have family members that are willing to support your car passion and or paying for food and housing. You can easily drain your savings paying to maintain a BMW. People often try to down play real costs of owning these cars. They see the low used car price as compared to the price when new and think they’re getting a status symbol car for a bargain bin price but fail account for the fact that you’re still paying for the maintenance of a car that sold for more than $60,000 new in the late 1990s and early 2000s. But, if you can pay the premiums, they are fantastic experience to drive when properly maintained!
A 5 series and a z3 are extremely different. The m yes has a couple more quirks but the average person who buys a nice one can afford to keep them going. S2000 Miata would be cheaper since they were made to be cheaper to maintain but it’s not something someone should not buy.
@@NavsGarage The thrust of my comment is not to tell someone “not to buy” rather it's to illustrate the sorts of issues buyers are likely to encounter during their ownership depending on previous services, age and so on. People often get into these cars thinking that they are getting a deal and become overly emotional in the purchase not realizing how deep the rabbit hole goes. If bought well, you can have a reasonably fun car, you just need an exit straegdy in mind to know when to sell to avoid the more extensive service bills; unless of course, you have the discretionary budget to lose hefty sums in maintenance costs. Most of my BMW service mechanic buddies buy these cars for pennies, have their fun for a few years and ditch them for the next car.
My comment also points out where corners are often cut in the build of said cars-which is in part why these cars cost more to maintain. German imports plummet in price for this very reason above all others. As they say, the cheapest woman is the one you really pay for. The car club buyers are different breed in most cases and will likely know a bit more going into a purchase of such a car; however, they do not make the larger audience that seeks to own these cars.
Ps. I’m well aware of the differences between the Z3’s 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder variants-this should have been easy to discern from my previous comment. The model you have likely has either the S52 or S54 engine. The M badged Z3 cars on average cost more to keep up than the M62 V8 in my old 540i. Unless you’re turning the wrench on your own car, your service bills will be quite similar if not greater.
The S2000 and or the Miata are built with longevity in mind because they know their target market demands it. The average newer model BMW driver isn't purchasing said cars, they lease them to avoid the maintenance and to pay less per month for greater luxury.
No regrets I'm sure! I have the 1.9 and I love it- but sure would love the extra power. Maybe someday, but by then, I'll be paying thru the nose for it! Nice channel, subbed!
I also have a 1.9, but with an Intension of swapping an s50 3.0 into it since it’s a direct bolt in.
I Love your car ! I my self own a black 2001 M roadster with only 45k miles as well as a black on black 1987 325is coupe both family Heirlooms.
Just ran my M up to Fresno from Corona Ca,…..95mph most the way had a Subaru come on me turned him into a DOT….145mph and pulling like a 15 yo boy after his first date.
Definitely prettier & faster than a Boxster! 👍
that's for sure haha thanks
It's even faster than a Cayman S same gen
I have a 2.8 liter 1997 made in South Carolina. I love my car. 🎁
2:01 is the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a while lmao
those aren't my words. I read that online. looking back at it this was 2 years ago. doesn't make a lot of sense lol
I have an immaculate 2000 s50 in Estoril blue w only 14k on the clock. Owned it 9years. Beautiful car but not driven enough sadly!
I've been looking to buy one. But I think it'll be too similar to my weekend car. A 96 corvette, manual. Daily is an 02 xjr 100
I don't think is car would be too similar to a corvette, this car is a great handling track like car and it provides the open feeling of a convertible. It would be pretty different. I say you should go and drive one to get to know it.
@@NavsGarage I will drive one for sure. You'll be surprised, the zf6 in the vette shifts great and handles great as well. Both cars have small interiors to. The roof comes off the vette, targa.
@@brandonherrera2891 yah that's true. I've never driven one but I take it for more of a gt car, Id love to drive one someday. You should definitely enjoy the Bmw
XJR 100 ... a very nice choice!
@@NewtonInDaHouseYo I love it! Thanks
Check out what these M Roadsters are selling for on Bring a Trailer you'll be pleasantly $urprised...
These cars are amazing, keep it under a 100 mph lol...
Love my Z m
I have the same car. As an old man, indeed I did scrape the front end of my car, several times actually. Anyways, I was hoping you could do me a favor. What does the cap say on your power steering reservoir? I'm interested to learn if it instructs you to use ATF or CHF. Thank you, sonny!
If your dash lights went out, you probably shorted your rheostat; the toggle you pull to turn your lights on and off.
Buy a new rheostat, and replace it. It’s a super easy fix that I was able to do in my crammed carport in LA. If I recall correctly, some owners went so far as to install a fuse to prevent having to replace the rheostat again.
that's the first time I got that advise Thank you so much I will look into it and fix it for a video!!
nice car
thank you. consider subscribing if you haven't already to see more content on it.
I justvwant a non M one and hopefully its isnt expensive to buy.
What size are your front and rear tyres ?
Nice car. Where did you get the rims for the Z3?
These are stock wheels for the car. It’s not a normal z3 it’s the m roadster so they changed them
Had a 99' S52 M Roadster and loved the motor and throttle response...but, the body lacks any torsional rigidity and the steering response is pretty slow. Archaic chassis. Bought a NC Miata after and yes, do miss the power but the Miata overall is a much better driving experience in my opinion. I highly doubt the Z3 M Roadster will increase in value going forward.
yah the steering I think is pretty good could use a little more, but the body does need to be more stiff, I will probably be doing some reinforcements soon.
check out some of the newer videos. I do have a couple on things im doing to it and a video on cars that are similar to this one.
I had the front strut bar done and put in TC Kleins suspension upgrade with the konis. Helped a little. I’d also recommend the chassis X reinforcement. Also need look out for the rear subframe issue. Fun little car though when you push her and get that tail out.
@@paullee9982 ah for sure thanks for the tips
@@paullee9982 If you ever run into the rear subframe issue like I did, contact RandyForbes. He’s a legend in the M Roadster/Coupe community.
Nice review of a special and relatively rare car. Here's a link to a video (czcams.com/video/5mEV9qzou2M/video.html) I shot in early 2020 of my 2000 Euro-spec (321-HP) M Roadster that was originally exported to Japan. Most of the engine bay tags, owner's manual, and service book are in Japanese. I simply love my car and wouldn't trade for anything else. Also enjoy having a rare S50 engine.
How much did you pay for it?
Somewhere near 10-12 I forgot it’s been like 4 years
So should I buy the car or not?
its up to you.. Like I said it a great car but keep in mind it is 20 years old
@@NavsGarage Okay, thanks!
I love your car. I wiss i can efford buy one before 60yts old🥲🥲🥲
