I have over 6k points of Tyranids and yet this is the first Tyranid tutorial on my channel! I've featured Tyranids in a few battle reports but this Parasite of Mortrex will definitely be a major player in their next outing. This is a great model to show off this paint scheme and how quickly you can paint up some Tyranids for yourself! This tutorial can be easily used as a base if you would prefer a different scheme, just swop in other colours and follow the same steps!
The snow base for this model is similar to the one in this tutorial:

Looks really nice, very visually appealing. I like how your schemes have a 'I need this on the tabletop now' stage and then simple extra steps for additional flair.
Cheers for that! Yes there’s always a point where you can stop and play, or keep going! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
I will be joining your hive fleet👍
Yessss excellent to hear!
This looks insanely good, going to follow this tutorial for the parasite of mortrex I just added to my tyranids
Oh awesome, enjoy painting him!
Nice Dad Joke Title. Made me watch the whole video :)
I am a sucker for dad jokes
Hahhaha I’m glad.
I like the wing color a whole lot. I might try this for the wings specifically but with the leviathan scheme.
Glad you liked it!
Great scheme ! Love it
Thanks Matt! Appreciate it!
I really loved to paint this model.
And nids in general
They’re super fun to paint, lots of nice textures on them! Thanks for watching!
That was awesome
That’s great to read! Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks Andy, the wings colour scheme is a great colour to use for an upcoming project. Love it!
Aw that's awesome to hear, I love it when a plan comes together!
Love that shade of blue! It makes it pop but it's also subtle, at least to my eyes.
Would you ever consider doing a video on how to make personal Chapters, Hive Fleets, Necromunda Gangs, etc. Just tips like picking color schemes and the like? Even though there are a lot of videos like that I feel like with how you make your videos feel very approachable and understanding, it may be cool to hear/see your take on it
That’s an amazing idea. I have written it down for future content. And thank you for the kind words
Never watched a bat rep from u n recently picked up a box of bugs n this is how I painted em last week 😂
Haha what are the chances?! Hope you still got something from the video anyway, thanks so much for watching!
Simple, but very effective scheme!
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment!
Looks good
Thanks so much, and thanks for watching!
Nice work
Thanks so much!
Thanks for this, ive been pondering for months now, on how to paint my tyranids, i will do the flesh like you did but use a dark grey/blackish colour for the "armor"
Glad you liked it pal and it will help you. Your scheme sounds ace.
Your nid army showcase!!!! Let’s gooo 😄. Great tutorial though, I’ll have to try it out
Thanks so much! Hmm yeah that could happen! Thanks for the suggestion and the comment!
Amazing as always I'm glad u gave it a screaming skull dry brush everything looks better with a screaming skull dry brush
Haha yes it does. Thanks for the support man, appreciate it
Bet an army painted like this would look fantastic
I might do a showcase with my army soon, it’s all painted this way! Thanks for watching man!
This was amazing. I really like how that looks. If I decide to branch out into Xeno's I'll be looking at the 'Nids with this scheme in mind.
That's great to hear, thanks so much! Maybe even just pick up a character model, you don't have to commit to a full army :D
My take on hive fleet Gorgon is kinda flipped version of this: terradon turquoise on fleshy bits and skeleton horde for carapace. Bright orange eyes and probably green for talons / spikes. I’ve only done one test model so far so not a problem to try some of these techniques to see if I can get some more pop to it.
Oh wow that sounds awesome. Would love to see out that scheme turns out!
You are awsome Bro 😘😘😘😘
Cheers dude. That’s so kind.
Love this scheme - might end up using it for the Leviathan box set when I get my hands on it. What colour do you paint the biomorph weapons like those carried by the termagants?
I shall be painting all of mine in this scheme to add to my already painted 6000pts
Would love to see you do Hormagaunts and Termigaunts, maybe even Genestealers too (:
I have a whole playlist for tyranids! Will be doing Genestealers for Kill Team soon!
@@MediocreHobbies - Yep, and I have watched and liked every single one of them! It is so entertaining watching you paint, and your colour scheme is awesome 👌🏻
@@Inconvenient_NPC Thanks so much :)
When I learn to play Kill Team I am so painting my Tyranids this way. I mean your last tutorial worked for me. Remember the Chaos Legionaries? :D
Delighted to hear pal. Join my hive fleet.
@@MediocreHobbies Totally. What name do you have for it?
Very nice scheme. I'm using stegadon for my nids as well. Would love to see you paint up a necron. I'm going for a dark sand skin/ dark silver skeleton and blue orbs and weapon glow.
Thanks so much! A necron is definitely on the 40k infantry list plans, will try fit that in soon! That scheme sounds great!
@@MediocreHobbies thanks. Just have to figure out how to implement contrast paints into my scheme and how to make it fast :D
Looks great Andy, the bones really stand out with this colour scheme, a quick question on the artist opus brushes, I’ve noticed that army painter sell a set of three dry brushes in a pack that looks very similar to the brush you was using, have you had any experience of using the army painter brushes ? I thought they might be good for the stippling technique that you have used on tanks in the past.
I haven’t had a chance to try the army painter once yet. But I presume there close enough. The artis opus once are the original creator of theses brushes so I just go to them.
those brushes you are using. also in the volton video of the land fortress, what brush are both of them. they are different looking.
Thanks for the comment, they're from Artis Opus, and I talk about them more here! czcams.com/video/8xwmEMrdaRw/video.html
When you are using Ard Coat do you varnish your minis after? Because I imagine that would undo the shine.
I don’t varnish my models ever to be honest. I don’t like how flat it makes the paint look.
Awesome. Any thoughts on doing some characters from a set like Cursed City?
So the problem with that is. My cursed city is already 100% complete. So I don’t have any of them to do video’s with.
Ok, i dont do bugs! for the algarythem or algorithm.
Haha fair! Thanks so much, always appreciate your comments!
@@MediocreHobbies i really hate bugs. Thats why i tried to sleep in vehicles while in the field. Shhh don’t tell anyone.
Makes me wanna paint some 'Nids. That Doombull brown is the cherry on top. Looks fab. :) Are you going to add their base to the playlist, or am I blind and missed it? :) Cheers Andy.
Delighted to hear you liked it! I did put in a link to a snow base video in the description, it's part of a set of 5 basing tutorials and it's similar enough to this base but if you have any questions after that please let me know!
Robbing this for mine, new paint handle by any chance?
Steal away, that’s what the video is for! Haha yes it is!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏👍😁
Glad you liked it! 😄
Is this hive fleet harkonnen?
Emm no it’s kind of my own one. Doesn’t really have a name.
would paint my parasite but i clipped the peg off its tail by accident, so joever
Aw no! Should still be able to glue it though?
@@MediocreHobbies tried superglue a few times to no avail, but I'll try again soon as it is a really awesome model. It has also taught me to be more careful with models when i am cutting them out so ig thats a win
My wings dont match the body and legs correctly. Kinda sucks when u pay that muvh for a little tiny model
It can be a bit fiddly but they should match up perfectly
