I think people give him too much credit for Euphoria. Once I learnt it wasn't original and based on another show, it really made sense to me why season 2 was way worse. I won't be watching season 3 especially after the Idol. I haven't seen anything else from Levinson, but I'm out. I don't care about his aesthetics and I doubt he is capable of creating substance at this point.
It's not even his aestethics, he stole them from a woman named Petra Collins, a photographer who originaly was supposed to work on Euphoria season 1 but then got thrown out for "being too young"
For me at least, the cracks in the wall were shown in Malcolm and Marie. That's when I looked into Assassination Nation and then, when Euphoria season 2 came out, I had a lot of context for the kinds of media he creates.
@2:07 The pill bottle states it’s 1mg Xanax to take as needed for pain. Xanax is for anxiety and some for sleep. It is not for pain, and it does not help relieve pain in any way. I am a chronic pain patient and I take opioids and benzos, so I know my pharmaceuticals quite well. I always get irked when shows with a central theme of addiction gets wrong the little, but incredibly easy to get right details.
I really thought this show was just mediocre at best but with that ending I'm just mad. Even with how shallow the show seemed, Jocelyn showed glimpses of being a more interesting character than one might think, but that just gets thrown out the window with that finale. What was the point of her making up that story? It would make sense if she did that to make her fans feel sorry for her, but why lie to Tedros? It's not like he decided to " make her a star" or whatever after he heard her sob story about her mother, so why bother? And the fact that she chose to stay with him after he was in shoots with one of her friends to replace her? come on. Ppl said this show was a "the writer's barely distinguished fetish type of thing" but it's so much worse that that.
Not a fan. Next to Ari Aster (MIDSOMMAR, HEREDITARY) and Alex Garland (MEN, EX MACHINA, ANNIHILATION), who prove that male directors really can Get It and write for women, Sam Levinson looks like a drama queen who snuck into the editing room.
I just don't get why people like season one of euphoria. It wasn't anything special or relatable to me. But I've had people claim how real the show is. It waa poorky written. Glad the hype died down thanks to season 2.
People really just watched for Zendaya let’s be real. Her acting salvaged much of season 1 and a wee bit of 2 (she couldn’t really save season 2, it was destined to fail.) Same thing for Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, and the guy that plays Nate imo, just for their performances and storylines alone

Jacob is a stand out for me his acting was amazing. Zendaya was better in season 2 than season 1

I disagree about Malcolm and Marie being hollow. I’d argue that’s the most realized Sam Levinson project even compared to Euphoria. People seem to only pay attention to the film industry commentary from Malcolm, but it’s really about how Malcolm and Marie want to be appreciated, the former for his art, the latter for her contributions to their relationship.
I actually really liked assignation nation it’s my favorite things he’s ever done besides euphoria season 1 I just wish he would’ve gave the characters more substance even in the og script he cut out a lot of backstory for them even tho he asked the actress what should be cut out I feel a lot of story was cut from the film
