    The funny thing is Walt doesn't even realize a giant chunk of the take-outs from the first cook, were one-time expenses, the 110 piece of the business and the over 100 that went to Jesse for the start-up loan, were one-time bits. Which meant his next cook was going to see an increase at least closer to 200k. And as their efficiency in what they could produce would go up it would rise even more. Being upset when literally most of your up front expenses are paid after one payday is showing a real lack of understanding of business. They were miles ahead. Most businesses take 1-3 years to pay back their start-up loans and start churning any kind of profit.

  • @Halloweenowl
    @Halloweenowl Před 27 dny +114

    Some reasons why I would agree with Mike:
    1. Mike's expertise is worth a temporary cost inflation. If that's his terms, it's worth it to me.
    2. Paying guys for their loyalty is a better insurance policy than murder. If anything slipped up even slightly with the coordinated murder, they would have been doomed.
    3. If Walt is truly in the Empire business and not a quick cash grab, you build loyalty. If he does right by them, they know they can trust them and will be less likely to confess, which will spread in their organization.

    • @geogoddd
      @geogoddd Před 21 dnem +6

      Well here are some reasons why I believe that Mike is incorrect, just from my own experience, Walter clearly understood better how to maximise the businesses longevity imo.
      I agree with Walter for three reasons, each supported by specific examples, Walt is better in every way despite his ruthlessness:
      1. Mikes decision to involve external mules introduces additional risks. Unlike Gus, who built a secure and self-contained distribution network over 20 years, Mike's reliance on mules makes the operation more vulnerable to law enforcement and betrayal. For instance, paying 20% to mules highlights a lack of established infrastructure, increasing exposure to potential leaks and threats. Imagine if even one mule were caught. The whole ship would crash like a steam train, Walt clearly saw this too.
      2. Mike's approach to covering legacy costs and ensuring the silence of former employees can drain resources and create ongoing financial strain. Unlike Gus, who didn't have these additional expenditures, Mike's decision to pay legacy costs adds significant ongoing expenses, such as the $351,000 mentioned, which can undermine the profitability and sustainability of the operation. This is a business reason, Walt clearly saw a better vision for the future. Smart crime, not dumb & outdated crime like Mike.
      3. Mike's leadership style, marked by intimidation and unilateral decision-making, "This is business, end of story" this here can create resentment and instability within the team. For example, his unwillingness on covering the costs himself, despite objections from Walt and his valid reasons, demonstrates a lack of acceptance that they were 'his guys' when he could just have them wiped out and killed, he showed loyalty to men who no longer mattered in the success of the operation. This approach can lead to fractures within the team and diminish overall effectiveness especially due to his hatred for Walt which grew up until he got smoked by Walt. Which proves that his hatred let to his demise.
      This is proof that Mike didn't have Walt's ability to see into the future.

      @@geogoddd Sure Gus had way better transportation infrastructure for his drug empire, but those took 20 years to build. • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 Před 6 dny

      That exposes the problem though. Walter was cooking and the boss, meaning he should be making more money, especially when you consider that Gus, Hector, and Eladio were out of the picture, and the previous arrangement made plenty of money to satiate all 3 of them. And that wasn't just to pay 3 people, that also included everyone under them, which was a lot of people. Mike was simply being greedy. Let's also keep in mind that all the guys that Mike made "whole", eventually turned on Mike anyways, despite all that money. In fact, almost every one of Mike's guys throughout the entire series ended up turning on him eventually. The truth is, 20% of the take to transport was way too high, especially when that comes out to over $250,000.
      Especially when this is a reoccurring cost, and it's not like it's a once a year thing, it's a once a week, once a month thing. At that point the drivers are making soo much money that they'd end up indirectly alerting the operation because even Gus had difficulty trying to launder that much money. There does come a problem with paying people too well, especially when they may soon make soo much money that they don't need to bother doing it anymore. If you're driving and you make 2 million dollars in less than 6 months, you'll probably just get out of the game entirely and go retire. Part of the reason you pay people lower is to keep them needing the job. Even just $10,000 for each driver would have been more than enough, and still very generous.
      Mike was just taking advantage of Walter because he was still mad at him about Gus, but the messed up part is this is partially what causes the end of Mike, because when Mike's guys started spilling the beans, they had to be dealt with, which Walter had to take care of. And Mike had been skimming soo much off of it to make his guys "whole" that it only angered Walter when it was all basically wasted money. Which ultimately lead to Walter losing his temper and taking out Mike. And Mike should have known better, because he's literally dealing with the guy that took out his former boss, so Mike was poking the bear out of annoyance. Mike wasn't a bad guy, but he did do things he shouldn't have done that ultimately made him a bit sloppy and caused problems that didn't need to exist, and that's all what lead to the end of Mike.
