      SpaceX may not be progressing as fast as Elon would like, it is clearly progressing far faster than any other launcher in history, except Falcon 9. Additional funding would not produce much faster progress. Based upon construction capacity I believe that SpaceX is aiming for 12 Starship launches in 2024 and 50 in 2025.

    Its always surprising to me how open the building site (megabay, highbay, test stands, rocket garden...) are. Others seal the engines, keep rockets dry and safe, more like a cleanroom. And SpaceX - they store the next-to-fly hardware directly in the coastal winds on the shore. And they perform... cool stuff.

      Musk needs to learn when to keep his personal prejudices and cherished conspiracy theories to himself. The bad PR he's earned over at Xitter, is spreading to Tesla and more worrisome to SpaceX. The small control room doesn’t surprise me. It mirrors the development of NASA’s centers. We’re used to seeing Houston’s Mission Operation Control Room. However, prior to Gemini IV everything was handled by a much smaller team in a smaller room at Kennedy Space Center. KSC would continue to lead during the launch phase. I suspect right now we’re seeing the KSC equivalent. Eventually, they will probably have a large Mission Control in Hawthorne and a smaller launch center near the pad just as NASA does.

    I think it's unlikely that they will use salt water. Salt water introduces a large number of other problems - it's much more corrosive, it doesn't evaporate cleanly and places that have a higher salt content might never dry out completely.
    I'd expect them to build a water desalinization system, as I suspect getting water trucked in isn't the most cost effective option, after they found out they can't operate very well without large amounts of water.

      It will never be cheap enough for large scale use. An economic and ecological nightmare. Driving electric cars on one side, but burning thousands of tons of methane for every flight? Only to have your package at some port in an hour, and then it needs another day to be delivered to your door anyway? Not gonna happen.

      @@digitalnomad9985 Yeah, but not everything that starts with rich customers survives. Concorde is a good example. It's not a matter of scale. It's a matter of feasibility. And it makes no sense. Many countries won't allow it anyway, due to safety, noise and environmental concerns. And both China and the US probably won't be happy to see ICBMs coming in multiple times a day.

    An efficient Starship cargo transporter is necessary for the Moon and Mars missions. Although it is being planned for military use, it's modular design can be modified to any purpose.
    Mars needs Carryall transport vehicles to transport cargo from the Starship cargo vessel to the designated base site, speeding up the bases development. The first cargo module unloaded would contain the carryall.

    The US Space Force will become increasingly more important to US space exploration. Remember that Chinas space agency is not a civil organization but is and always has been military based. As the SLS/Artemis budget will likely be reduced during future administrations, Space X technology and capabilities will be necessary to compete with the Chicoms.

    I always wonder whether the Mach-diamonds could be positioned in such a way so as to use constructive interference to their advantage. At the moment it seems all the nozzle bells are simply in-line/flat/level with with each other and by consequence, the Mach-diamonds all converge in different places. The mere fact that a Mach-diamond converges at various distances shows that constructive/destructive interference *IS* taking place and thus *IS* a factor toward efficiency; by how much:who knows?

    • @JKa244
      @JKa244 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Mach diamonds are created when the exhaust is lower pressure than the atmosphere it's flowing into. Their presence is an indication that the rocket will have a better specific impulse at high altitude or vacuum, but the process occurs downstream of the thrust component of a gas rocket.
      Interactions between these standing waves won't have a significant effect on engine operation or output.
