Was at this game as an Oxford fan. There were basically two games going on - the one which 21 of the players were involved in and then the one Gazza was playing. He was on another level to everybody else. They never show it in the highlights but he scored a free-kick that he cheekily took just before the ref blew his whistle for him to take it and it was disallowed. It was just that kind of quick thinking and inventiveness that made him such a special player at that time. Such a shame that he couldn’t control his demons otherwise we might be talking about him in the same way we talk about undeniably great players like Zidane.

When you listen to this, you realise what a great commentator John Motson was, he didn't try to be flash and over clever like some of these modern commentators. But he was articulate and accurate with what he did say, so glad I grew up listening to Motson, Davies, Moore, Gubba and not what we have today

I agree the commentators we had before were far more better then todays, John Motson was the best. Listening to them I enjoyed the football more. Now a days you get anyone commentating which isn’t the same no more

Motson was gd until the '94 world cup. Then he became a caricature of himself.
      Barry Davies was the Don.

@@ginaza9767 Nah, Brian Moore was the best. Motty and Davies were goodtoo. Tony Gubba was great all rounder though, presented the World Championship Darts, Snooker and more.

My favorite year supporting Spurs! Been fairly lean since then...

I only started following Spurs when Klinsmann joined but I've been reliably informed that Gazza, during this cup run, was as good as anyone in our modern history e.g. Ginola, Bale, Kane, Son etc.

Gazza won us the FA cup in 1991, he was brilliant that season. I would say he was better then Ginola and Son, different type of players but I do really like Ginola and Son. Gazza has to be up there with the best ever we’ve had

@@supertottenhamtv According to Alex Ferguson, he was the greatest raw talent England ever produced.

Imagine if Messi was an alcoholic geordie! Gazza had the same talent and ability to do amazing things, just so much baggage which was giving him mental and physical health problems even this early in his career.

Good point. Men's mental health wasn't even a thing up until a few years back.
