  • EN: This video was recorded in 1995 in Albanian lignite (brown coal) mine. This mine is located in the national park called Bredhi Drenovë. As you can see, these coal-miners do not care about labour protection.
    CZ: Albánský hnědouhelný důl v NP Bredhi Drenovë jsme navštívili v roce 1995 při expedici Shquiperia, kterou pořádala CK Kudrna Brno.
    S bezpečností práce si horníci hlavu asi nelámali.

    Originally, it was a battery powered loco (we have a similar one - with batteries in Kemence, Hungary). The loc works with 40 Volts DC, no 230 V or higher voltages! :)

    I visited this location in 1992 when on an EU Mission in Albania where I lived for a year at that time. The stud of redundant steam locos at Durres was a sight to behold for a railway enthusiast. The other location which I visited was the Steel and Iron Works at Elbasan which had its own railway system but with diesels in charge. The lack of any H & S control in both these places was remarkable !!! GFR

    Oh, 100A, really? Yes maybe. I was just posting because of the reason that people read low voltage values (like 40V) and say, hah, as long as it's no 3-digit voltage value, it's not dangerous. This is a common (and probably very dangerous) misinformation!

  • @janesullivan4421
    @janesullivan4421 Před 7 lety +26

    I'm sure they do care about "labour protection", i.e. health and safety. The driver is wearing heavy-duty gloves to isolate himself from the power line, for instance. With the run-down state of the system, and probably no money to repair and otherwise improve it, what else can the workforce do to keep their jobs, get paid, and feed their families?

    • @ivanattila9429
      @ivanattila9429 Před 7 lety +8

      This is obviously not the workers fault, it's their employers. If you don't have money to run a fucking mine safely it's better to close it down.

    Yes, it can be just 40V. Amperage would be, of course, really high, I expect around 100A maybe more. But who cares, when the voltage is too low to make any harm? Human´s body has at this voltage very high resistance to be injured.

    A link to this video was just posted on Railway Preservation News. Expect a lot of hits from US electric railway fans. A comment on the smiling attitude of the workers: this is probably a sign of a crew that has good teamwork, which goes a long way toward making up for the rather marginal equipment. I did notice that some of the workers had hard hats, which is more than one can say about the Empire State Bldg. slide show I saw the other day.

    Oh my god, go back to Elementary school and learn perfectly Ohm´s Law. Resistance of human body, which is more than 1Mohm, won´t allow the current to be higher than few amps. Amps are killer in case, when they are allowed to pass through body. The higher the voltage is, the lower the resistance of the body is (very simply said) but 40Volts is not enough to kill.

    @traktoros 40 volts? Really? That electric arc gave me the impression that there is much more than a mere 40 volts on these cables!! At least if you're right about 40 voits, the CURRENT seems fu*king high (I think 50 A minimum, I'm not kidding!!) Because: you won't get these sorts of sparks with a few milliamperes...
    BTW, did you know that 4 (four) volts can be deadly to you!! Think of electrolysis industry...(galvanotechnics) these devices have "only" a one-digit voltage and....10 000 A!!
