I lived in San Francisco in the early 80s. Gorgeous. Door men dressed up infront of jewelry stores, Christmas displays in the department store windows, little bistros and cafes in all different sections of the city, from North Beach to Bernal Heights, Haight, Italian section across from beautiful church and park, Chinatown, mission, the Warf, much more and so so beautiful. Yes, it was a good city . My Dad was working in Oakland, CA an we were staying in San Francisco. Went to school in 1976 their for half a year. It was a clean city then.
I give target much credit for continuing to operate their store their despite much higher operating costs. But when the time comes to shut it down, its the store chain that gets blamed by the local community. Not the local community members who are stealing....

I live in SF, and this is my neighborhood Target. It’s not as bad as this guy is making it out to be. In fact, it’s actually safe and quite nice. There’s a movie theater, several restaurants, and a medium sized park connected to it that he conveniently forgot to mention. This Target is located in a high-traffic tourist area, but it’s not dangerous.

I was forced to be homeless on the street in 2019 until I received my back pay from Veterans affairs last year. Homelessness is not a crime. I didn't go into stores and walk out with anything not paid for when I was homeless, so not all homeless people are criminals.

This is one of many reasons why I refuse to move, vacation, or live in the state of California
I have lived in the south in a red state for my entire life. I never see any media outlet talk about how bad crime is in red states. It's not just blue states that have a crime problem as a matter of fact out of the top 10 safest states to live in eight of them are blue states.
I worked Security for Target, and I will tell you that we do our very best to prevent and deter these thieves, but local and state government loose on crime policies for shoplifters makes the job very demoralizing and pointless. It’s very crushing to put all your effort to prevent the theft of hundreds of dollars of merchandise from walking out the door, arrest the person with Police waiting outside for them, and watch them come back to steal the same stuff the very next morning.
I will add that there is far worse that occurs at Target theft and incident wise, what was shown is nothing that we are not used to/dealing with. The reason the bikes are locked is because thieves will load up backpacks with mens clothes such as underwear packs, shirt and sock packs, or electronics such as Anker portable chargers, speakers and headphones, then select a Expensive bike and leave the store using an Emergency Fire exit, and ride the bike out of the store. One incident such as this means an easy 1-2 Thousand dollar loss. Happens every day multiple times a day
As a TSS I can add that Target policy is pathetically weak. They tie our hands in prevention, let alone apprehensions.

I used to work for T just within the last 5 years. The location I worked for even 5 years ago implemented rfid tags in backpacks because thieves would just wear them going out. When I did my section, I would find empty boxes of electronics when my section was NOT electronics. Meaning they took whats inside and wore them going out. The inventory floor was the lower 3rd. The loss prev guys caught a guy even at that lower level floor stealing stuff.

Years ago a shoplifter would often "fall" while being apprehended, they often showed up in police booking photos a bit bruised. The good old days.
