What a great interview! She still looked so lively and youthful and was so active and updated in her use of social media that I was truly expecting she'd be with us a little longer, but I'm really glad to know she had enough time to be acquainted with so many of her fans from all over the world through the internet, and that people, including those behind this channel, valued her ample legacy and made sure she knew how important she was for a lot of people from later generations and what an amazing treasure of artistic lessons in such a versatile array of roles and reference recordings (studio and live ones) she left for us. RIP, Grace Bumbry! A real legend that I hope will inspire others to follow on her great path.

Wonderful stuff, but Grace Bumbry was *not* the first black artist to sing at the White House. Soprano Marie Williams sang there for Rutherford Hayes in 1878; Sissieretta Jones sang there for Benjamin Harrison in 1892 and subsequently for William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. Plus the Fisk Singers performed there for Chester Alan Arthur as early as 1882, and returned thereafter. And, as I am sure Ms. Bumbry knows, there *were* internationally active Black opera singers before Price/Bumbry/Verrett: Caterina Jarboro, Jules Bledsoe, Camilla Williams, Leonora Lafayette and Mattiwilda Dobbs, to name some.
