Yeah. Leslie was a "mountain" of a man in those days and a force of nature. What a set of pipes too.... in addition to the guitar chops, of course. Down to earth regular guy in real life also. Funny, humble. The "kid from Queens" was always there until he finally left us. RIP, man. Thanks for everything.
bro can you imagine hearing that in 1970? Heaviest tone outside of Iommi during that era. People must have thought it sounded like the soundtrack to the cataclysm.
I remember in the early 70s hearing this track playing in a local record shop and I asked the counter guy about the band. It was on a Japanese import so pretty damn expensive but I just HAD to have it! Years later I went to see Leslie West play at a small venue in London. What a blast that was!!
Mountain was very underrated power trio. Leslie West w/ his great guitar work & vocals along with the powerful rhythm section of Felix Pappalardi on bass & Corky Laing pounding the skins like no one else (& Steve Knight backing on Keys) 3:26 All their stuff is pretty awesome.
Drummer reminds me of Keith Moon's intensity....cant get enough o this song. i was 10 when this came out and loved it.....poor Leslie....overweight most of his life n missn teeth , it was clear he wdnt be around much longer then the average life span.......
I don't even like rock but this mother f***** right here this guy can can sing for real on this rock and roll I mean you could feel it that you want to enjoy it

They actually played this live in an era where everyone pretending to play while the radio recording was used. And he might be the only obese rocker in 1970 as everyone else was skinny from all of the drugs they were using, especially uppers. But man they sounded great here!
Most guitarist notice this song. The first time I saw it was on a beer commercial which was way after it was a hit. The magic of this song is it has a very simple pattern that can be played, but it never seems to come close to sounding like this.
Andre the giant rocks really hard.
😅😂 damn you beat me to it
A true Renaissance man
Lmao!
Don't forget old Dennis Eckersly coming out of the bullpen to play some bass.
@roundthirteen someone mentioned Paul Stanley was showing his rare drum skills also!
When he was little, my son called this “Homer’s Song” because Homer cranks it up in his car in the Homerpalooza episode.
That’s the best thing I’ve read in a while. Thank you stranger.
Hell ya
“Homer Simpson - smiling politely” ❤❤😂😂

Somehow, the missing tooth adds. It doesn't subtract.

It makes his Mississippi Queen story believable.
Agreed !
Kids today will never reach rizz(that’s the word, right?) levels anywhere near Leslie.

Now THIS is how it's done.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is ROCK.
Voice of a god. Body of a grandma.
The power in that voice is just amazing.
Right, dudes now sound pretty limp wristed.
When you see ‘live 1970’ by your favourite song, you know it’s gonna be the best shit on god’s green earth. Something was in the air from 1967 - 1973.

Yeah this is great!
Mountain wasn't just another rock band... they were a force of nature.
Leslie West ABSOLUTE FORCE OF NATURE. R.I.P.
Saw these guys in a club way back in the day in Cincinnati. He sang it "Cincinnati Queen." The place went crazy. Great band.
That is without doubt the best version of this song. Pure gold.
Damn ...one of the best openings in the history of rock.🎉

So. Much. Volume.
I'm wondering if Leslie was using Sun amps or Marshalls here
Mountain----a MOUNTAIN of pure Power and Magic! Felix and West----wow, Wow and WOW!
Can’t forget Corky Laing on the drums
Priceless. Their only hit single but what a classic it was. I remember 53 summers ago this was on every car radio as our DJs loved it.
RIP Felix and Leslie legends

My drum teacher turned me on to this song to work on my triplet feel. Great song.
Great rock & roll energy. Mountain played at Woodstock too. Great tone to Leslie's guitar!
Drummer throwing away a stick at 1:07!
I saw these guys in a little Venue back in 1981, Denver Colorado.
I love that song that's how an American band should look
🤣😂😭
Honestly, this is how most of them look. Even now.

Use to hear on 8track in my 65 Ford Van
Corky Laing is such a great drummer.. love these guys
This is so raw, so real, so good..
We will never have this kind of music again
Leslie West an absolute fucking legand and this riff is forever in the pantheon of all time greats. Respect.
Leslie didn’t even need that mic lol dude’s voice was so powerful
The Piano player looks like he should be on stage at the Grand old opry.
Yeah!
Watching Roy Orbison videos, and then this pops up feed.
One of the best Rock songs EVER ❤❤❤
Leslie West was absolutely wonderful, saw Mountain so many times, I have loved my life and such great musical moments. I love them, I always have.
Corky Laing laying down a really nice laid back yet heavy groove. Perfect with those hairy tones over it
These guys are gonna blow up one day
Playing lead and rhythm at the same time
I always thought that this song needed more...okay, I won't say it.
Leslie had the pipes and the chops 😮😮😮
Wow wonderfull
His licks are boiled down and rendered to the bare essentials. Just pure field calls.
I didn't know Roy from Emergency had a side gig as the keyboardist for mountain.....lol😊

@herbie747 yet, they were famous, and no one's heard of you.
In the eaely/mid 80's, my Uncle Pug would play this in his GTO on an 8 track.
Although I wasn't old enough to see Mountain back in the day, they were my very first concert in 1985. Opening for Triumph.
Sounds like an awesome concert. I do like to drive my wife insane listening to my Triumph Playlist now and again.
Good old days
Did anybody else have this guitar sound in 1970?
Though different I can't help but say that Black Sabbath had this guitar sound back in the day. Quite different yet somehow the same.

Where have they been all my life?😮
Now that's revolutionary.
Amazing guitar distortion. 😊
Music nowadays can't compare to the music back those days
Ok boomer
There are modern bands that are easily on par with the classic stuff, you just need to know where to look.
I had no idea this was the guy I tried to match vocally while playing Rock Band with my sisters.
RIP Leslie,,,,,Forest Hills brethren !
I still miss Felix Pappalardi
Rockkkkk onnnnnnn!!!!❤😂

Love the drummer tossin sticks and recovering. I wish I could feel the bass they're rockin!
Been listening to this song on classic rock since about 95....first time I saw what they looked like today. Not what I had imagined lol.
I always focused on Leslie in this song but the drums and bass are fantastic too
Talented no auto tune etc etc etc😉
