Oh btw...
Some of you might be wondering... what on Earth happened to The Cutting Edge!? Right? Anyone? Of course you are. Well, maybe a few of you. Things took a turn south, to say the least. Joey Nasser departed the CHANNEL. Then, we got hacked. Seriously. It wasn't even the fun kind of hack, not a single NSFW video in sight. But Roblox were involved, so there's that! Anyway, that WAS a thing, NOOOOOOOW it's not a thing,... so we're back!

Also, I wonder how 2 AI would talk to eachother, and what it would culminate into.

Her hair is the easiest thing to identify as being not realistic. That smirk tho - definitely something that makes her almost a real human.
I was gonna say the same thing about the hair. It's too glossy and doesn't move naturally. Long hair like that, even styled, has lots of micro-movements down to each individual strand and it pretty much stayed in one mass when moving.
Esp the hair Simulation/Animation looked to static in my eyes.
The fact that it took me a minuet to pick it out is encouraging, three decades I'm expecting full immersion VR with full realism (assuming brain computer interfaces can work, or at the very least nerve and computer interfaces, perhaps we can trick the Brian by just plugging in fingertips and have it send signals that seem to come all across the arms, same for the legs, one on the face ect...).
For me it's the eyes. Eyes and hair.
I had no idea CGI has progressed this far. This is like Black Mirror stuff.

UE5 is special because it's free and it's so easy that anyone can use it to make high-quality looking games. Their technology isn't as game changing and new as they are proclaiming. Epic builds a lot of fake hype around it's product tools which are laughable to the industry because it's all the same stuff everyone has been using for over a decade. UE5 is just new and still building essential tools and features, and wants to pretend like they are innovating to new developers.
What other engine has anything along the lines of nanite?
@@nitroneonicman LOD is in basically every game engine. The only thing different about nanite is that it works without custom-making a lower-quality model. UE5 can't actually run multiple billion triangle meshes at once, it just lowers the quality. This means less work for the developers however this also means it's less performant. So yes it is a cool feature but it is less optimized and is partially responsible for why many UE5 games run so poorly.

I'm sure the folks at Unity will be mighty proud you lead this video "thanks to unreal engine 5" by using some Unity graphics from over a year ago 🤣
Carefully crafted demo by teamS of industry professionals with super custom tools that will never be used in a game with unity VS a japanese train station video in UE5 done by a single person with normal tools available in UE5
Unity since the adam demos have always been using tools impossible to use for normal games.
Unity demoes are NEVER involving a game but always cinematics contrary to Unreal, that's why they want to deceive with marketing team leads across the world to decide and use Unity, and then when the regular joe artist under them cannot even come close to those results with still ugly performances issues the trap then will be complete

@@kaos88888888 So you are comparing an animated human vs a static train station?
You do realize a single person could make that same thing in unity just as easy don't you?
Yes 4d scans are not accessible to most single developers neither are they in unreal.
The thing is both engines can achieve the same thing in the hands of a skilled developer with access to the right resources.
The fact that unity is used mostly for simple games and low poly games is because it is WAY more accessible than unreal will ever be.
But sure do some back when a single developer makes a demo just like the unity enemies one in unreal and we'll talk again, because you comment makes me believe you think it can be done in unreal by one person so prove it.
@@TheGalantir I don't know how long you've been in Unity. But after 6 years of development, I understand that Unity has no chance compared to UE at all levels of development. You claim that most of the "bad" games made with Unity testify to its availability and that this is more of an advantage than a disadvantage. However, if you look at indie games made with UE, you will find that the vast majority of Unity games look and work worse. This is due solely to the fact that "out of the box" UE provides much more mandatory tools for development, as well as the quality of these tools reaches the AAA level, which allows you to practice the advanced technologies of the gaming industry in your indie projects.
All this affects the development time and quality of the final product, and at the moment UE bypasses Unity in this. Considering that UE every year make their engine even more accessible and technologically advanced, and Unity does not release any significant updates at all (no exaggeration, it's true) - I think that Unity has no chance, no matter how beautiful this demo may seem to me...
yes this tech is coming to games. you might have the timeline a little compressed though. tech demos created BY the engine's company are always going to show off the prettiest stuff and hide away the clunkier stuff. each developer has to take the toolkit given to them by the engine and then implement their own solutions specific to their games. some will understand how to use the new tech better and before others. An engine rolling out a feature doesn't necessarily mean it is automatically going to be showing up everywhere from then on.

The problem that I'm seeing now, though is extremely subtle, is the movement of facial expressions. It looks much more real, but it's a little too animated in the sense that people don't usually make enormous movements in their face. Reality is more subtle but that subtlety is very hard to achieve. All in all it looks amazing though!
Welcome back! Missed your videos!

The most underrated problem with near-human animation has always been the mouth, which most people fail to recognize, even industry experts - at least to third parties. Almost all mouth animation only mimics vague mouth motions merged together with morphing, but the real problem is that it rarely is tweaked or engineered enough in the first place to lose the "cotton balls in the mouth" look.
My only concern for games lookin this real in a couple years is that I don’t believe GPUs will be good enough to handle real time caustics yet currently it would take years to render caustics on a 4090
No worries, standard caustics and real time caustics have no difference at all
Not really a concern unless the environment calls for it. Plus it can just be baked and it would not look any different from real time. Even RT lighting and baked lighting are almost impossible tell apart in some instances.
lol you crazy. maybe you aren't familiar with realtime workflows, but not everything is rendered or calculated at full res, in terms of textures OR sim resolutions.
I just bought a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 for a gaming PC I'm currently building. The think set me back $1200. Yep gaming is getting GPU hungry and expensive.
@@lorenfulghum2393 Nah I am but if we ever decide to implement Caustics into games at least realtime caustics then it will take very long. It’s no different then raytracing it used to take for ever to render but with accelerated raytracing it can be done in real time…. I know what I’m talking about kinda, nobody truly does

If video games turn super realistic, then a head getting blown up would look the same as in real life. Therefore, some people would find it disturbing or sensitive
That's why you play first person sneakers. Who needs to blow up heads all the time?

I wonder far people have gotten with organic environments, like walking through some woods, or wading through a swamp doing those places well is my benchmark of,"holy shit we have come so far"
But, its nice to have you back dude, we missed ya.
The lighting is still a bit off, but These scenes are starting to get seriously close to reality. However I'm still concerned about the last minor details that break the immersion. Like millions and millions of tiny details we subcobciously see and still realize it's not real
It's not millions, not even close. But I get your point
The one thing that still gives it away is the mouth movement to dialogue relation, not quite there yet

I truly appreciate your channel my friend. A lot of hard work going into making these videos which doesn’t go unnoticed by all of us graphic geeks. In any case, this generation of consoles is unlike any other. Because usually we have at least a few games at the beginning of the generation that dig into the tech and show off the possibilities. We really haven’t seen anything that has driven home. Any Leap and technology that the systems might have. The matrix demo was probably the first that showcased anything that might represent gameplay at some point. But even that was limited in scope.
Your physics videos show exactly what I have been clamoring for, for years… And that is, real time physics, that factors into gameplay. Red Faction: Guerilla and it’s sequel. We’re really the last games that showcased what could be possible with developers put their mind to physics. Instead of shooting enemies in the face like we have been for 30 years, we can shoot a statue that falls on top of a car that makes it explode, and the shrapnel from the car kills the enemies. Yet, developers seem to be very slow at implementing any of this.
If it was done on the Xbox, 360… there is no reason that 2 1/2 generations of hardware later… We can’t have incredible games, showcasing this kind of technology. Truly, seems like developers just have no interest in implementing anything like it. And I’m not saying the entire world be distractible, I’m saying, make objects, and maybe some concrete fall from those buildings. Or make it extremely hard to take a building down unless you know how to take out its supporting structures. Anything other than continuing, the same gameplay we’ve had for again… 30 years.
Come on developers… The technology is built into Unreal Engine 5 to allow for easy creation of physics objects. Again, if the Xbox 360 could handle entire buildings coming down without issue… I don’t think the Xbox series X or PS5 are going to buckle under the pressure.
watching those realistic faces with dead eyes is like watching dead people muppet show
Will these be for cinematic or actual gameplay?
In 1984 i was playing an Atari game called Adventure, it was a box you moved around screen, now we have this.
I remember the first time I've played Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, and I was blown away by UE tech..
I'm just scared other companies can't catch up and we end up with only a few game engines.
im glad you are back
