Being a Golden Retriever Owner I can tell that it's not as easy as it seems to raise a Goldie. Even though they are one of the most intelligent and gentle dogs, there are quite a few challenges that every new parent goes through. So I decided to share all the advice and tips for raising a Golden Retriever.

Sorry my friend golden retrievers are definitely not the best dog on mother planet, I have plenty dogs in my life. I'm 69 years old and had Plenty different breeds of dogs, my last one now is a golden retriever which is one year old, but sad to say apart from the fact that it's a clever breed of a dog it's the worst dog I ever owned. The attention and patience a golden retriever needs, or wants from you is far far more than what I can give and take. I gave her so much love, care, and attention and believe me I know how to treat a dog because I was a dog breader, for many years. My German Shepherds, Rottweiler, Border Colleys, and the master of them all BOERBULL beat the Golden retriever loose hands on all expectations. It's no use for me to have a dog just because it's clever I need a dog that's alert when danger strike and unwelcome people enter my property at night or at any given time, I don't need a dog that will invite the danger people into my property or house. I need a dog that eat the best food on the market and don't pick and choose what she want to eat. I need a dog that doesn't destroy all my plants, flowers, etc just because she like to destroy everything she can get. Golden retriever are dogs for people thats willing to spend half of a day cleaning, watching and giving attention to it where as my other dogs got far less attention but gave me far less problems than this destroyer golden retriever. No thank you a year was far to long I'm giving her back to my daughter she can find a good home for Pearl Amber. Come on BOERBULL puppy DAD can't wait.

Had 2 goldens growing up. A male and female. The female was as quick as greased lightning and she never got big or fat, always stayed slim (she ran around LOTS, she had many acres to play on), and the male was huge, he was around 120lbs, which is big even for a golden, he was not as fat as you might think. He was quite muscular because he was always marking his territory, digging, sniffing around and chasing squirrels. He wasn't as fast as her, but he moved around like a tank. His big flag of a tail would constantly knock things over. The female had a big fluffy tail too.
Yup, they had puppies. We made a "nest" for her in one of the smallest quitest rooms in the house. She tried making/digging a nest under our shack that was over 40 feet from the house, but I had to get her out and cover up the hole she dug (coyotes were around). She finally understood we made her a nest in the house, and she made herself comfortable.
All 8 puppies made it. Happy healthy, energetic little pups. We tried finding the best people for them. I hope they lived great lives (this was over 20 years ago). Sad I never got to see her carry a pup in her mouth, i think she was too scared she might hurt the pup if she did it that way. She was a very gentle dog, if she was a human she would probably be a queen in another life.
Hands down, the most gentle, emotional, hardy dogs.
    Thanks for the nostalgia.

These dogs were wonderful, sweet, and loving puppies. I miss them after years of being gone. 🐕🐱

In 1990 I got married to a guy that did not have dogs growing up. After getting our house it was time for a dog. Since he didn't have dogs growing up we decided he would pick what kind of dog. Said he wanted a golden, so I got him a golden. As he grew my husband said this dog didn't look like the one he had pictured. What he was thinking was a yellow lab. He didn't know the difference since he was unfamiliar with dogs. His name was Jake and he was the best mistake ever! I grew up with all kinds of breeds, but never had a golden and he was the best dog I ever had. I loved him so much and when we had the terrible task of putting him down at 12 years old due to cancer I was beside myself. To this day I cannot see myself getting another dog because I don't want to go through that again. I was so lucky to have him.

We have a 4 month old rescue English Cream Golden. He definitely will not be our guard dog! He thinks every stranger is his new best friend. He is very very chill for a puppy. Not sure if it’s his temperament or because he was quite sick when we got him. He doesn’t like to walk. Once he gets going he’s fine but he doesn’t like to start. He just sits and watches his surroundings and wants to lay down in the sun. Or just stops randomly on the sidewalk and stands there. He doesn’t get the zoomies too much anymore. We are already trusting him with the run of the house at night as once he got over some diarrhea issues as a sick pup, he’s house trained! He doesn’t chew the furniture thank god. He loves the toys we got him. Loves his Kong and Nylabone, but not obsessive about them. He IS a social animal and once my husbands work schedule gets smoother he will be going to work with him a few days a week to be with other people and dogs. Instead of being home with me while I work. He scarfs down his food - we had to get a slow feeder. And to my surprise he doesn’t shed much! He was so thin and sick when we first got him, he was shedding like crazy. But now that he’s healthy and gaining weight his coat has come in and I am cleaning up far less hair off the floor and my clothes.

Their such a loving and caring dog with such big hearts, that I believe they must be sent from heaven, as Angels, to watch over us. My Golden is now 13 years old and I don't know I will deal with him passing away. When I got him, it was to help my mother with dementia. He cared for her, like he understood what was wrong with her. He became a family member, and my love knows no bounds for him. He's is and always will be my baby dog. Yes, when their puppies they chew and when the become adults, they shed a lot of hair, but the shear love, that these dogs have in their heart is beyond belief.

If you imagine yourself with a Husky, try a golden retriever first. The Husky breed is like a golden-supersized 5 times. Lol. My friend owned a beautiful golden named Rusty. She had 18 pups in one litter, and did not lose one! One winter, as my friend's family was closing their lake cottage and moving everything back home (about 8 miles away), a winter storm set in before they could get back for their golden and the last few items. One week later, we accompanied them back to the lake cottage. They had dug out the road to the cottage, but just couldn't bear to be alone for the inevitable when they dug out the dog house. We all hugged and cried as the men dug out the dog house and poked through the hay. Suddenly, Rusty exploded from the dog house and ran figure 8's around her excited and happy owners. We were all relieved and very happy to see her! After a few minutes, she began drinking water before being loaded in the car for a quick trip to the Veterinarian. Other than being dehydrated a little, she had weathered her ordeal in good shape. No tracks were outside the dog house, so we guess she simply holed up and stayed put to be "found".

    • @julieevans6895
      @julieevans6895 Před rokem

@@korpersafte Our Husky is a big goof ball full of energy. It took much patience, time and training. That being said, I think we got lucky! When he was a one and half year old, I came home from work, started up the front steps, and Rocky knocked me down. I found myself looking up at the top of the steps at a very puzzled Husky. He cocked his head, put his "puzzled" eyebrows at an angle and wagged his tail as if to say, "What are you doing down there? I want to see you up here?" I laughed, dusted myself off and braced myself for the husky exhuberance every day after. I also made a note to corral him when we had kids or elders over, at least until they made it up the steps and into the house.
He thinks he is the chief face-washer and hand cleaner in the house hold. Other dogs don't have his fine temperament, though, but I think that happens in every breed.

So if you’re thinking about getting this breed you can take that consideration right off the list. Our JoJo sure does love to eat, though! That one is true! If they were at the park together or walking in the countryside, Bonnie would run back to my mother's side if another person appeared. At home we'd sometimes have to explain to Bonnie that a visitor was a friend. A repairmen tried to enter by the sidegate once and Bonnie become quite aggressive - not an isolated incident.

Our Lucas was put down last night, he would have been 15 in October. He was our angel, probably the best dog we’ve ever had. He was the ultimate hippy, so peaceful, loving, and well behaved. He NEVER destroyed anything in our house, only his toys. He only ate when he was hungry, the food would sit in his bowl until he felt like eating, and he did not overeat. He never smelled bad or had odors coming from his anal gland, like any animal, he smelled when it was time for his biweekly bath. He did have a lot of skin allergy issues which required a special shampoo to address and was prone to ear infections due to his floppy ears. As he got older, arthritis was a major issue and he was taking medicine everyday to help with that. With that said, if I had to, I would gladly do it all over again to have Lucas and his positive energy back with us. Goldens are amazing and without him, the house is just empty. I would not hesitate to get another Golden one day!

They both loved everybody and loved to play a lot. Our first huge Golden was protective of our home and barked sometimes but his size in itself was intimidating LOL.

I recommend a golden retriever for anyone. She loved to eat and being a first time dog owner so I constantly fed her because I thought she was hungry she was greedy. Weve raised dogs for Guide Dogs For The Blind-Nat'l Search and rescue Foundation-One dog (Gus) responded to the towers on 9-11. The best all around dogs on the planet. Yes, they are a little DEE DEE DEE, total doofuses, and you have to keep them occupied. Boredom is a terrible thing-especially for canines. Some of our dogs have lived to be older than 17 years, the avg seems to be about 14. But ya gotta care for them. Great video.......

Bigger than what you described. They werew 112 and 114 pounds at a year old, and stayed that weight all of their lives. They were just big! Snoopy was the runt of the litter she weighed 75 pounds all of her 13.5 years. Kayla is a big girl too she is 94 pounds now she just lost 6 pounds over 2 years. She is the best dog I have ever had! We got her at 11 weeks old. She needed very little training. Almost no chewing except for a pair of my wife's slippers and a plant stand. She never gets into the trash or anything she is not allowed to. She loves everyone except squirrels, rabbits and possums. She caught a possum about two months ago. My wife got it away from her. She lives to be petted by strangers, no she is not a guard dog! She will not eat unless I eat, don't know why. We have never had to use negative training. She seems to understand our words and commands unless she is in hunting mode, then all vbets are off. They are the best dogs in the world! They love kids!

Ohhh also as soon as I got Sadie home I started her training at eight weeks old by first dropping treats around on the floor n sweetly saying ohhh noo babi girl u don't touch anything on the floor or the ground. It only took a few times n she's six now n won't get anything off the ground or the floor so many neat things about her. I only gasped when she did anything that needed correction n in a loving yet serious tone I'd just say ohhh nooo lil girl that's not OK so u cant do that. N she never did.
I'm really afraid to just feed her dog food n nothing w dyes or any animal byproducts in anything. So I've always cooked her meat n veggies n rice n a lil good dog food for when she wants. I've never had a dog die from any cancers or tumors. I pray this beautiful girl Goldy of mine that she never gets sick n leave me. I'm having a time of just the thought of her ever leaving me. She's my pride n my true joy. She's slept on hers n mine Queen bed since eight weeks old n I wouldn't have it any other way.
Ohh and she ran really fast into the lake three x n ohh did she ever stink like sludge. Gross so we walked home n I said OK straight into the shower my stinky girl n she's not done that again. I'm a gasper n she hates to dissapoint me so she's about perfect.

It would vary by cost of commercial food using, possibly there is a savings, for some. I’m not doing this to save money, but to get her on best diet possible for long term health.

My golden who is almost 2 years old is extremely aggressive at some points and has bitten my mom and I multiple times. We have a hard time with the idea of giving him away solely because he can be a VERY VERY great dog at times. He’s super smart and can be super cute he knows the commands but only chooses to listen to them when he wants to. When he gets aggressive, it’s seems to mostly be when we take things away from him that he’s not supposed to have, or when we move him from somewhere he’s not supposed to be. For example, he LOVES paper products… napkins, paper plates, paper towels, tissues.”, etc. If he gets to ANY of those (stealing them off the table or our laps), he will not let go or give it to you without attacking. The ONLY thing that works is a spray bottle with water and vinegar but you have to point it at him for him to let go. He knows what “drop it” means but won’t listen unless you have that spray bottle. He also attacked me when he hopped up on the counter and started to eat brownies that were on the stove. Literally turned around super fast and aggressively starting to lunge and bite me and it was so loud that people outside heard it. It’s just so upsetting because for a majority of the time, he’s SUCH a good boy when he wants to be. We just believe his previous owners HAD to have beaten him with the way he reacts to these things. It’s been so hard on our family and we can not afford to get him the training he needs. It’s also hard to train him at home for his aggression solely because lately he’s been attacking with the most random things that he hasn’t used to have a problem with. If someone lives in NY and will give him a great life and take the time to train him, let me know. He’s an ANGEL at times which is why it’s so hard. He also LOVES loves loves loves to swim and loves the water. He is my best friend which is why giving him a home that can help him would be best for him

I think my tip for a first time dog owner, is be prepared. All these cutsie videos do not show you nor prepare you for what is coming. 24/7 stress and watching them like a hawk. Constant frustration and constant tears, and insane exhaustion. I was told dogs were a lot of work, but NOTHING I was told or read could have prepared me for the reality. And the reality is that we have at least another year of this before our 6 month old starts to calm down. Having a dog is not all the fun and games that you see on videos.
