ALEX WILD dugout life: THUNDERSTORM and RAIN caught me in a LOG CABIN. Part 28

Hi! Today was a crazy day. It rained from morning till lunch, or rather a tropical downpour. That's what I'd call it. Periodically, thunder thundered in sound comparable to explosions. But it was warm and cozy in my dugout. Finally I made myself a comfortable bed, now I will sleep like a child. Burn the window so that it does not rot and parasites do not eat it. And the most important thing is, of course, my water storage device - it finally began to fill with water. In general, watch my video, I think you will be interested!

You should be very proud of the work you have accomplished. There are not enough people today that can tie their own shoes, let alone build an underground cabin.
    Well done young man!

i have noticed other similar channels on youtube, they also build DIY log cabins, but those cabins are NOT VISUALLY HIDDEN ENOUGH.
alex's half-underground cabin is perfect in height, it's not too high to be easily noticed from afar nor goes too deep to make people feel weird or depressed.
i think alex has made a piece of priceless treasure by building this cabin, not to himself alone, but to everyone who loves this cabin(including me)!

Alex, of all the bushcraft videos I've watched, your dugout cabin is my favorite. If I was younger, I'd be out in the woods trying to make a similar one. Unfortunately, I'm no longer able to do that sort of thing. So it brings me great pleasure to watch you build, and improve on, and enjoy you wonderful cabin. I love the way you blacken the wood, I understand that helps to make it waterproof and its also very attractive. I would ask one thing, please don't denigrate (svärta ner) your wife, it seems a petty thing to do. She must be a wonderful woman to give you such freedom to spend so much time in the wilderness. Maybe one day she'll come along and we can meet her too. I wish you the very best, and all the happiness in the world. I also wish I had a dugout cabin like yours. Jag önskar dig lycka och glädje (I hope the online translator got that right)

unless one cant use their limbs they can do similar stuff ... ok sure perhaps not spend 3 years making a nice get away like this ... BUT turning a food garden into a tranquil place while still providing food ... is always possible ... just a few simple things like a hand made bench perhaps a garden table ... maybe a water fall for rain water and garden watering etc ... heck turn the garden into an edible oasis of relaxation ... and you get a similar thing close to home

A simple life deep into the wilderness? You don't know how much I envy you in this moment. Maybe one day I'll find a place where to live like that. I definitely prefer that isolation rather than this chaotic society always to the brink of destruction, unbalanced and hostile.
At least nature don't pretends to be civilized or kinda "good".
Nature is definitely better. Unfortunately, it's every day more difficult to find a spot without humans around. Truly isolation is a rare thing. 😑

Future project suggestions: add a simple wire mesh (chicken wire) inside the stove pipe to keep birds out, attach a pulley to the skylight so you can open it from inside, sculpt the ground in front of the window so rain/snow/water runs away from the dugout, build some outdoor furniture like adirondack chairs, outdoor stove/oven (maybe a pit you can cover).

Just found your channel by accident, watched your snow one, then back to number 1, now here, I'll probably watch all of them! Loved seeing your hard work just doing this yourself from scratch. Hi from New Zealand.

Awesome work! Sincere question… How do you prevent the rain from flowing downward into your cabin? Genius design.

@@nicola6323 Alex hasn’t yet answered but another video showed his interior floor dry after a rainfall, no puddles. So I guess there must be enough drainage between the logs at the landing before the door, and drainage inside.

Those tall timbers swaying in the wind and rain remind me of places I've camped - Yosemite, Washington State, northern Maine, and New Brunswick, Canada. I like what and how you cook. Is there a dugout cooking book coming to an e-store near me?

Alex, nice job on the shutters, although I thought you were going to burn down the cabin. Your wife may be moody, only because you are "playing house" without her. Bring her along next time. Take care of yourself and your family and keep filming. We enjoy.
