  • Join me as I unbox, speed build and review the 2001 LEGO Harry Potter 4708 Hogwarts Express, a 19 year old mint-in-box classic Harry Potter set and the very first LEGO Hogwarts Express. The 410 piece part count of this vintage LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express set includes three minifigures, a 2001 LEGO Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley plus Scabbers, Hedwig and other magical creatures. As well as unboxing, speed building and reviewing 4708 LEGO Hogwarts Express, I show how to motorize the Hogwarts Express and show it running.

4708 Hogwarts Express from LEGO Harry Potter is from the first wave of LEGO Harry Potter sets in 2001 and unboxing this vintage LEGO set was like opening up a time capsule. As well as the Hogwarts Express was a 2001 LEGO catalog, a mail-in postcard for LEGO's Shop at Home service and a free LEGO Harry Potter poster showing the 2001 Harry Potter sets.

The 2001 Hogwarts Express is made up of three components including the Hogwarts Express engine, a carriage which connects using magnetic LEGO couplers and platform 9 3/4 at London's Kings Cross Station. There's a neat portal where Harry, Ron and Hermione can reach platform 9 3/4 via a rotating muggle ticket machine before joining The Hogwarts Express.
Motorizing the LEGO Hogwarts Express 4708 from 2001 is surprising easy if you have the right parts. 4708 is built on standard LEGO train base plates and the wheels can be swapped out for a 9V LEGO train motor and some bogeys to help the LEGO Hogwarts Express to navigate corners. You will see the 4708 Hogwarts Express motorized and running on LEGO train tracks and hear a brief history on how the Hogwarts Express came to be.
I really hope you enjoy this vintage LEGO Harry Potter 4708 Hogwarts Express unboxing, speed build and review video and my how to motorize the Hogwarts Express hints and tips. If you do, a thumbs up is always very welcome and don't forget to subscribe for more classic LEGO Harry Potter set reviews.

Always love seeing you review these old Harry Potter sets Jeremy, no other youtubers goes as in-depth as you do and I really appreciate it. In fact, you're actually to blame for me going back and re-buying a lot of these old sets myself. Not got this one yet, but I did just grab about 20 different sets on ebay within the space of 2 weeks. God forbid my wife ever finds out how much I've spent!

They made the choice to declare that they make content for kids. I do not make content for kids and feel comfortable to argue the case before any court. To be fair, I have very little to lose. I have a great job which enables me to buy LEGO that interests me as an adult collector and make the videos that I would want to watch on CZcams (very visual and not too serious). Ad revenue is not a big deal and I would happily give it all away to continue doing what I love and sharing content I enjoy. The worst that could happen is that the FTC engages in a costly legal process and fines me all of my ad revenue. As a small channel I make very little from CZcams, I'm not making kids content and I do nothing wrong.

Coppa sucks, why we just have no coppa at all. And we don't have that in Europe right. And the miniplayer doesn't work if it were for kids (I don't know why?) and I can't save the video.

I have a wish version of the Hogwarts Express, and the whole set is perfectly normal (thank you very much) except for the box and instructions. Wherever it says Harry Potter, they have Justice Magician. The picture in the corner of Ron,Harry, and,Hermione is of three people who look nothing like they should. The train says Wizardry Castle on the side, and Haxard Wizardry on the front. But my favorite part is........ on the box they have platform 7 5/9. The best replacement for 9 3/4 that they could think of was 7 5/9.

It takes massive patience. Stickers usually sit in the middle of the brick so I try and align one edge equally within the brick and avoid smoothing it down until I’m sure the positions is right. You can usually reposition it a few times before the sticker gets messed up.
