- Looking for a new knife? Something fun, different, and completely unique? That's what we thought, so we went ahead and made one. Check out how easy it is to make one. Get your saw blade from the hardware store and follow these tutorial.
I try to show all steps involved in this video to show you how to make a knife from an old saw blade. This is a great way to repurpose some old junk and make a useful tool for your household. You just need the blade of the saw, some sandpaper, grinding wheel and angle grinder to sharpen it.
The large finger hole on the blade provides a secure grip for wonderful management whereas filleting fish, chopping vegetables and deboning meat.
Note: This is the first knife I made and I didn't heat treat it because it didn't occur to me that it should.
Handmade knife from old file, simple knife making with basic tools.

aren't sawblades heat treated already? idk much about knife making though
@@namesmud9510 Maybe
@@woodworkcrafts only saw teeth were heat treated
@@vladalex3876 Thank you for the clarification.
the pinnacle of creativity🤩
Good job for a first knife!
Got to love the angle grinding with flip flops.
Normal.
Great video! And I love the profile/concept you came up with, even incorporating the hole of the saw blade! This has really inspired me to make a knife from some of my own old saw blades.
Don't forget to show me when you make it.
Thanks 4 the tips I think I'll try making my own
I was a little worried about installing the blade after reading a couple of reviews. But it was amazingly easy. Took about 1 minute. Works great czcams.com/users/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c . Cuts easily and is perfect for pocket cuts I needed to make for replacing some old deck boards.
Beautiful knife well done .
Ficou Top demais parabéns 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Good Job. Congrats
Parabéns você é um mestre
Sweet build and blade my friend.
Thank you.
Very cool.
I’ve made several knives from this material light weight really sharp. The metal is hard enough. Yet makes good edge.

Great work....
Great job 👊😎
Not bad for your first one, better than my first one that's for sure.
That's great.
Inspiring vid. Ive been saving old saw blades and wondering what i can make them into. Think ill try a knife. 🤔 TY!
Good luck.
Keren mantap aku suka fidionya
Nice video. Like one of the comments said I too thought saw blades were heat treated. I thought leaf springs, spikes, wrenches and such only needed that. I would love to try this. I can handle cutting out the blade but putting on a handle would give me trouble.
Good luck and be careful.
Super 👌
Nice

Mantap sir
Dude.......the only words that come to mind is doooode, this boys been making these for a minute! Awesome simply awesome. Any thoughts in heat treating your steel???
No, I don't treat it.
👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice work, however always cover your blade with a paper or old cloth and then wrap some tape to avoid injury to your self while working, and to avoid scratches on the blade polish.
Ok, thank you.

I thought you were going to pull out the angle grinder to cut the scales out! Shame about the heat treat, but a good learning exercise for next time.
I prefer something that will not rust
It is an experience above all.
@@woodworkcrafts I had fun making knives with my neighbor. I learned about all types of knove making material. My fav is D-2 steel
Is a saw hardened steel or doe we first need to heat treat it
It is a saw hardened steel, and some say it does not need to be treated.

You can by e-mail or Facebook page.
What drill bit did you use? I can't drill circular saw blades with the bits I have.
Maybe you should use another new one.
I've tried that....I wonder if maybe a carbide or tungsten bit...I have also tried a masonry bit with no success
@@randyames992 I use a normal drill bit and have no problem with it.
Try with a stainless steel drill bit.
I'll try that. Thanks so much for the feedback.
You’re having a hard time drilling because saw blades are hardened steel. If you heat the spot you want to drill with a torch to red hot and let it cool you can drill it easy. Dont get the blade edge red hot you will ruin the hardness.
I tried cutting a shiny bandsaw blade with an angle grinder but the grinder just slipped off and it was very difficult. Can anyone tell me why?
Take care, the angle grinder is dangerous.
It requires experience and good hand control. If you are a beginner, I advise you not to use it.
Use as thin a grinder wheel as you can find. It will follow your outline much easier that a thicker wheel.
Apakah pisau ini buat cacah tulang ga gombal om..
For chopping vegetables and meat.
Just as well you didn't heat treat it; most of the saw blade knives I've made warped like bananas even before the quench.
It's my first time making a knife and I didn't know it had to be heat treated, maybe next time.
Thank you for your comment
@@woodworkcrafts I keep my first knife on my desk as a lesson in humility! Trust me, your first knife is way better than my first one.
Que tamaño es la cierra tengo un pre creo es mas pequeña que la tuya quero hacer uno
Un poco menos de 30 cm.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Where we can buy those
What do you mean by more?
Can you be more specific?
It's a cool blade but almost all my attention went to you using a HUGE angle grinder to cut out a SAW BLADE that being held by ONE clamp and you wearing shorts and sandals...jesus christ that's stupid dangerous
I take all appropriate precautions while grinding. It may not be visible in the video for you.
@@woodworkcrafts It is tho, everything is visable, including your one clamp and your shorts and sandals. You are lucky your angle grinder didn't caught the saw blade and have it fly off and chop your leg off

Why not use stanless steel 317 its tougher flexibile durable than clasic steel that rusts and is fragile
Maybe later, thanks for the tip.
This video get the steel from old saw blade. Where to get stainless steel 317 from?
@@musicgurufan8771 In oder to have a saw blade you need a chainsaw which is not that cheap by they way the cost getteing the blade is higher than buying a piece/bar of stainless steel for your project is not that expansive The cost of geting the stanless steel bar is overall cheaper
Do you not need to heat treat the blade?
I didn't know he needed that.
I have read in comments on other videos that saw blades are already tempered, I would like to know if that is so.
@@marktate4466 I also heard that and don't know if it's true or not.
Not sure if it needs it or not but, (from my unknowledgable perspective) isnt the metal already high quality with no further heat treat? Dunno.
@@marktate4466yeah, but the heat from that angle grinder takes the heat treat out of it
How much cost one of those
I don't know.
Tempera
?
That knife isn't going to hold an edge. All that heat from that grinder, and not tempering it? Waste of time
It's not waste time, this is my first knife.
@@woodworkcrafts if it's not functional, then it's a waste of time
@@dereksteele2284I don’t think you get to dictate what is and isn’t a waste of time for him. If he’s happy with it, it’s not a waste of time.
@behar its a waste of time, if it's not usable
@@dereksteele2284 Did you read my comment? That’s not for you to determine.
You burnt the steel.🤦♂️
This is the result of friction because it is solid.
