- Well, I've done it. I've watched and reviewed every single Batman movie. It's an end of an era. As a whole, Batman '89 is pretty much the perfect Batman movie and I truthfully mean this. I could go into details about it here but y'know what? I'll let the video do all of the talking for me. I hope you enjoy the video!

the joker killing the Wayne's is absolutely genius it's my favourite batman origin even better than the comics yes I dare say it's better than the comics.
It took a while to grow on me but honestly, I do love it now more than I ever did. It makes it even better when you really think about how simple yet effective that story idea is considering the movie came out so many years ago. Like, if it was done now, it'd be super cliche but considering how old the movie is, you're right it's fucking genius
And besides let's think about it. Most of the times in comics, and in the Nolan films, it's essentially just some normal guy. With just some normal gun. At least in the Joker movie it was a clown guy inspired by the joker, and we know what they did in this movie.
@@IDontBeatGames If a comic book writer did it first no one would have cared but because they were daring enough to connect the destinies of both characters from the start, you heard nothing but pissing and moaning from certain fans for decades.
TRUTH. It is. There's too much joker batman relationship stuff now and how they're in this ideological war. Ok great! That works for an on going series that needs to keep its largest selling villian alive to drive comic sales but for a film in the late 80s??? No. Making the protagonist and antagonist be the ones that create themselves was unheard of back then. Jack kills bruce wayne when he kills his parents because there is only batman from then on. Batman creates the joker when he allows jack to fall into the chemicals because now there's only Joker from that point on. It also raises the stakes when Vicki gets involved romantically with bruce. And if a purest wants to tell me it was Joe Chill, I know it was but guess what? Replace Jack Napier with Joe Chill and Carl Grisome with Rubert Thorne and you have the same characters.
💯
To me, this is the one Batman movie to hit all the right beats: origin, Joker, Batman going from myth to the recognized hero of Gotham.
And to anyone who brings up the deaths in it, two points:
1. Batman doesn't really kill anyone until after he finds out Joker is the one who killed his parents. Even then, the deaths weren't part of the original script and were add-ons by Burton.
2. Burton was given by producer Michael Uslan a bunch of comics to read, including the original Bill Finger/Bob Kane Golden Age comics and Bronze Age comics by the likes of Dennis O'Neil, Neal Adams, Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, all gothic mysteries where the deaths were often self-defense or the result of the villain getting hoisted by his own petard.
Plus, this was the Batman movie that understood how to make a comic book come to life without trying to be too realistic or grown up, just do what the comics at the time were on the big screen.
See, this is why I love Batman '89 too! All of those things you've said are some of the key parts of the movie that stood out immediately as I took notes while watching it. It's so fucking crazy because you can see the influence and groundwork it's laid for the current generation of Batman media till this day
@@IDontBeatGames not just media. Batman 89 had a massive impact on the comics, with Gotham slowly resembling Anton Furst’s designs from this film, to Batman eventually taking on an all black suit with only yellow on the belt and chest logo from 1995 until 2000. Batman 89 is what set the style of the animated series, and it’s basically the film they all will inevitably get compared to.
@@Ksawarrior As someone who's began to learn about the impact of all of the films throughout making these videos, learning this makes it so much cooler. It's kind of crazy how one major movie like this could literally impact an entire generation and the direction that generation takes with a character like Batman. That is legitimately fucking cool.
@@IDontBeatGames Even better, Jack Napier, a name invented for the Joker, eventually became a recurring alias for the character in the comics, with the alternate universe story "Batman: White Knight" featuring a Joker who starts taking pills for his madness, gets sane, and becomes Napier again, and runs for office to hold Batman accountable for his (in this universe) extremely violent actions.
@@Ksawarrior You know.. as someone who's read the White Knight comic, I am ashamed of myself for not mentioning it in the video lmao
It got the perfect balance that's why its so good. Visually its more beautiful than any modern comic book film which is remarkable because it has zero CGI.
Yep! It feels like a comic book brought to life in the least corny way possible and because of that, it's aged beautifully
No CGI is one of the main reasons it looks so good. The model work in this movie is the pinnacle of what was possible with that technology.
@@newsbender CGI makes most Marvel movies possible. Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man would not be possible without CGI.
@@user-or6yn8pm3c agreed. Problem is all those movies look ugly as hell. And they're shit too.
The Burton movies and begins have the best Gotham I hate when movies like dark knight make it too generic and it just looks like your average city
I'm looking forward to rewatching the Nolan Trilogy to be able to eventually rank ALL of the Batman movies in one overly long video but honestly, I do agree with you
@@IDontBeatGames better hurry only one month left before the batman lol
Someone FINALLY GETS IT. This movie is awesome for so many reasons which u have listed all of them. U earned a subscription from me dude!👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! I appreciate the love. A new video is coming out this upcoming week! I hope you end up watching that too!
I bought both the 1989 Batman and The Batman 2022 on DVD a few days ago. I just watched both of them again so they're fresh in my mind.
As much as I love Robert Pattinson's performance and the pulp detective take with the new film, Michael Keaton is still the best Batman (AND Bruce Wayne) and Batman 1989 is still my favorite Batman movie!
The theme song, the costumes, the villain, the atmosphere, and even the humor all work perfectly!!
The dark knight isnt a batman movie it's a Harvey dent and joker movie
Funny you say that because I discuss that exact topic in my Nolan trilogy review video :)
🍷Exactly..
The more i grow the more i like old movies. I am a batman fan and by seing the 89 batman suit to me it looks like a heavy armor suit and futurist suit. I think is the best suit for batman thinking that he is a high iq person and his safety would be his primar thing to do!
Batman Mask of The Phantasm is the perfect Batman movie.
Should I check it out? I've never seen it!
@@IDontBeatGames yes. It is one of the best Batman movies. Kevin Conroy is awesome as the voice of Batman and Bruce Wayne.
Fact
Damn right!
After re watching this movie the other day I completely agree this is the best one
This is not only my favorite Batman movie, it is likely in my top 5.
I agree, Batman Returns already falls into the more goofy less gritty tone which got exaggerated with Val's Batman. This first movie has perfect tone and style.
we keeping it 💯💯💯💯💯💯
Damn fucking right we are
Going back and watching the Tim Burton Batman movies made me love and appreciate Michael Keaton's Batman alot more. On top of that, it also made me realize Batman works alot better in a 1940's Noir aesthetic, less so in a Modern one. I've recently come to the conclusion that Superheroes like Batman and Superman are of their time, and they weren't meant to have 80 years of comics, TV shows and stuff like that.
CZcamsr Rick Worley made this very point in his video on Dick Tracy (Another movie that does it's characters right), and he goes into detail on how Superhero movies today never got the characters right, and how Dick Tracy and Batman 89, even the Animated Series are the correct way of making the genre. Check it out here:

Thank you
The ridiculous 60s one is still my favorite. Nananananana BATMAN
I’ve been planning on reviewing this movie for a VERY long time but I’ve been prolonging it because of how rough it probably is in comparison to modern movies 🤔
The best batman movie and joker to date movie wise and it was awesome at the movies, sister took me rip
Agree with you
This Batman from 1989 was just perfect no other batman can touch it they were all garbage
Kevin and micheal were the goat
I grew up with Michael Keaton as my batman as well Kevin Conroy (rest in peace) yes I like the others but 1989 is definitely the definitive batman considering the fact that Bob Kane himself said it
HiTop films crying in the corner. "But muh-muh-muh Batman comics! Movie not a copy/paste of comics, therefore bad!!!!"
I can’t stand when people try to make those arguments anyways because literally NO comic book film is the exact same as its comic counterpart. Every film takes elements and changes them based on director vision or story intent. The dark Knight Rises did this plenty as did the dark knight. Batman 1989 is still the closest to an actual Batman film weve ever gotten..
The 1989 Batman movie has always been my favorite Batman movie. Keaton nailed it as Bruce Wayne and as Batman, the Batsuit was awesome, the batmobile was awesome, the batwing was awesome, Nicholson was great as Joker.... I can go on and on. My second favorite Batman is Christian Bale, after that Ben Aflec was pretty good.... Val Kilmer was ok but I didn't like the Forever movie, and the 2 worst Batmen are George Clooney and the dude from Twilight. 👎 But again, Keaton is the best Batman and the 89 Batman movie is definitely the best one in my opinion.
How do you feel about Returns (1992)?
