    In today's video I attempted to install a Chinese Diesel Heater step by step into the main fuel tank with ‪@UrbanVanlife‬. Sadly we had some error messages and codes that came up every time we started the heater so had to do some problem solving to see what was going wrong with my Chinese diesel heater.

      The reason it’s not working is because you have fuel filter around the wrong way and your using the shit fuel pipe that comes with it if you go on eBay for about £10 you can get the uprated fuel pipe that is hard and your have no problems if your local to bmth I can help you

    Hi bud - I have fit a few of these in my time. Here are my points.
    - the fuel filter is set the wrong way around (I know you discounted it) set this as close to the tank as poss and the screw cap end is the towards heater end.
    - the pump with such a long run dry can destroy itself I would swap out the pump first.
    - the green line is pretty rubbish, it expands with the pump pulses - swap this out to hard nylon line asap and set the pump as close to the heater as possible
    - the longest run suggested for the pump is 2m from tank to heater - less with green line.
    Hope you figure it out, if you need a extra pair of hands I’m in Bristol if you need help.

    • @UrbanVanlife

      @@BigVanSmallWorld it’s a 2 way filter . So that means no matter what way you put it the fuel is filtered in that direction . So even if it was the direction of the filter . That dose not explain why it was erroring with by passing the filter .

  • @richardkelly4254
    @richardkelly4254 Před 2 lety +34

    My money would be on the fuel lines, you need hard nylon ones. When the pump sucks on soft tubing like that it collapses the pipe (cavitation) rather than suck fuel from the tank.

    • @librab103
      @librab103 Před 2 lety +4

      That might be the problem. I do not know why these kits come with soft green tubing instead of ridge nylon that I am sure if these companies bought in bulk would maybe add $1 to cost.

    Aww Will, those diesel heaters are a complete nightmare to fit, what with all the right ways to put the filter etc etc, I feel your pain. The all in one solution is an option like your Jackery. Yes, you both did everything correctly, just those damn error codes. I thought you cracked it when the fan on the controller was spinning, but alas it didn’t work. I can’t think of anything. Neil is experienced so he knows. Great van build video, thanks Neil & Emma. Good luck with part 2. Rog.

    Hey Will hope your well and still fighting the diesel heater.
    I suggest you get the white nylon pipe and also use a separate tank as close as you can to the diesel heater so the pump doesn’t have to work too hard also that way you’ll be Abel to use red diesel as that’s much cheaper.
    Hope this help x

    I fitted a 2kw diesel heater because my van is a small Transit custom SWB hightop.
    Mel fitted a 5kw in his mwb sprinter and it was too hot on lowest setting.
    I didn't use the soft green pipe, I used a thinner hard pipe, and with the Transit clip on attachment you just cut off the spare auxiliary spur on the Sender unit on the van fuel tank and push the straw in and clip it on, all worked fine.

    Hello Will, I installed one of these last week. I would say change the green fuel line to a smaller diameter white nylon fuel line; available on ebay for a few quid.
    Not a 100% wether that will solve the issue, as you guys tried with a short run from the fuel can. But definitely worth giving a go

    Not having a lot of luck lately are you Will. It's not easy to keep your patience when a few things go wrong at the same time. At least with Neil and his experience of installing Chinese Diesel Heaters you know it was a fault with the product you bought. The good thing about all this is you now realise it's better to go with the 5kw heater instead of the 2kw heater that you had. All this is good experience for any other van builds in the future. Stay strong mate, you'll get there soon. Graham 💪

    @Kitfoxmk1 Před 2 lety +1

    Sorry to see you had trouble. I’ve just fitted a 2kw heater to my boxer and it provides more than enough heat, even on its lowest setting. It’s been fantastic and hasn’t given any trouble. As far as I can see the only difference I have to yours is that I’ve used a separate fuel tank, it has a shorter fuel run, incidentally im pretty sure you’ve got the filter the wrong way round (you need to be able undo it and have the crud on the outside of the filter so you can clean it). I primed my fuel line using a 50ml syringe and dragged the fuel through to the heater. My fuel pump is very close to the heater but obviously under the floor. All the reviews I’ve seen are excellent as is mine so hopefully you will get it sorted and still have spent only one tenth of the European version!

    the flange-spring is offset to the conurbation union joint, is so obvious if you look at the google sprocket as it in a concentric arc, best thing to do is use high magnetic frequency plates to disjoint the flux. A flux capacitor is required, warning do not hit 88 mph that if your lithium battery can supply the recommended gigawatt required use the doc brown equation method. Good luck bud glad to have off help.

My van was 4 degrees the other day and in about an hour of having it on it was 24 degrees and the beauty of it is you can turn it down and it will maintain temperature beautifully and I'm guessing it will be more fuel efficient. I wouldn't replace it for a 5kw. I have had zero issues in 2 years . That 5kw in that van is going to be toasty too quick . You would be turning it off and on all the time. I'd consider keeping it. Good luck

  • @Lou_Sylw_Bulgarian_Rescue_Dogs

    I second what a couple have said in the comments. Try another power supply. When you first turn it on it demands alot of power. After its running it doesn't use that much. Nightmare in the winter without one. We are in Poland now and its -14. Without the heater we would be screwed.

    fuel filter was the wrong way around, the green hose is known for causing aggro so best to change it for the hard nylon stuff, youll also need the slightly bigger black fuel line and jubilees for connecting it all together. these heaters can be a pain. i have 2 2kws both working but have had teething problems getting them going. it did look like air was entering the fuel filter somehow. you should see air bubbles (cavitation from pump) after the pump but not before it. i connected everything up apart from the pump and gravity primed my lines then quickly inserted the pump in the fuel line where it should be without losing too much fuel. id look at changing the fuel pickup on the sender unit for a proper metal pipe. these can be a pain but worth it when u get there in the end. hope you get it sorted

    And have fitted another 3 to two vans and a boat. The heaters are really basic so can't see much going wrong as long as the fan isn't jammed. Did you try disconnecting fuel line from heater and seeing if the pump would pump into a container.?

    Hi Will and Neil, the channel Mel’s big van small world?, just swapped out a 5Kw heater for a 2Kw heater because he found it was to hot, why he didn’t just turn the thermostat down I don’t know.
    He did find something of interest , there was evidence on the mounting plate of soot at the exhaust port so used exhaust putty to give a good seal when he reinstalled the heater.
    Will, you could always sleep over at Charlie and Lauren’s van as their heater works just fine, or have I just cursed that for them?

    The fault most report is E8 - lack of fuel - usually because the filter isn't primed, and it times out pumping fuel - then E10 (multiple faults), if it tries a few times pumping fuel, but still hasn't loaded. Filling the filter with a syringe is a good idea, as if you keep running the pump too many times, the pump will wear out eventually, before it is fully lubricated. A long stretch of fuel line doesn't help - keeping it as short as possible reduces required work/pressure. Those pumps are pretty cheap, and are bare metal on metal inside. The quality, expensive, super quiet ones cost as much as the whole heater again! But as you discounted that, may be the heater itself. I have the same 2K and it worked first time, been running trouble free a few years. You may have just been unlucky. If you got it on Ebay/Amazon. make sure you don't go past the returns date.

Anyway I've had more issues with 5 KW sooting up because there to big for small vans and yr always running them on low so they never burn hot enough to keep the burn chamber clean .ebspach are 2,2 and that's all they ever fit in trucks and never have problems with them because they run full chat all it's life I've run a number of 2kw Chinese in vans in my opinion the best no problems ever . 5kw and ⁸8kw all the 8kw is a5kw over fuelling to burn hotter it's only my opinion mind keep up the good work boys I'm subscriber. I have a 2kW Eberspacher in a MWB Master, when its proper cold like below zero it can't keep up so 3-4kW might not be a bad idea. With your fuel starvation error codes did you blow through the fuel line and the jet in the heater with compressed air? possibly just a foreign body in there.

    • @peskyparttimers8239
      @peskyparttimers8239 Před 2 lety

      Just come across another video review on these chinese heaters and the fuel filter was defective allowing air in. I would probably put the pump at the fuel tank end and the fuel filter between the pump and the heater on a long pipe run like that so it's pushing instead of pulling. Hard nylon fuel line would be better than that flexible stuff (looks like screen washer pipe!).
