Just made it! This is DEFINITELY the ecto cooler from my childhood!!! Awesome recipe!!!!
It kinda baffles me why Hi-C doesn’t just make Ecto Cooler……

Artificial demand is a huge part of it. But with Ecto Cooler its especially weird because its not even like they do it seasonally every Halloween or something they just...don't do it. I'm curious if they intended a larger tie-in to Afterlife, but the delays in the film as well as potential supply chain issues got in the way. Like how the cereal for the film was released almost a year ahead of the movie.
I just wish they would make Hi-C in cans
I would buy the shit out of a 12 pack of Orange Lavaburst, it's kinda hard to do juice boxes when you're almost 26 xD (I still do it, but those boxes are way too tiny)

At the store right now. Picked up two bottles of Tampico Citrus punch, and two bottles of the zero sugar Minute Maid Lemonade, as well as the last box of food dye. Cant wait to mix this up, get it chilled and enjoy a pitcher with some pizza while watching a Ghostbusters marathon tonight!
I just tasted this as my introduction to Ecto Cooler, and holy crap is it the bomb
I've never had Ecto Cooler but this easy recipe and all the buzz around the drink in general really makes me wanna try it out. Lol
This recipe is legit for sure. Tried this as soon as Jason's article popped up online and had to write a thank you to the San Diego team as they cracked the code. It just works.
Tested this out after seeing the San Diego team's video, and I thought it really hit the mark! Tampico is at Walmart if you have access to one, and let me tell you how much of a joy it is to chug this stuff again!
They should just make ecto cooler a permanent product

Maybe try 2 parts Tampico, 2 parts orange/tangerine juicy juice and 1 part minute made

Just made this tonight (on Halloween.) It tastes just like the original. I just made a glass so I did 1 cup Tampico and 1/4 cup lemonade and one drop food colouring

Heck yeah! I immediately wrote this recipe down in my book! The canned version from the Ghostbusters reboot was weird tasting. I blame the can. It tasted better in a box.

hi c has that watery taste that quenches your thirst. If you mix some high c orange in there it hits the spot

So I made this and its almost close to the drink. You said 3 cups of Tampico and 1 cup of lemon minute maid? I also added the drink into my soda infuser and it took to another level. I followed a recipe that not only had Orange Tangerine Juicy Juice, but Country inn lemonade mix and ot flavor enhancer, but i'll give this one a try

This is close…but not quite it imo. The original had a stronger tangerine flavor with a bit more bite, more hi-cish (if that makes sense). Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great simple recipe and taste very similar…but if you take some tangerine juicy juice and add it to this mix, it’s damn near identical to what I remember. I suppose everyone will remember it a bit differently though. Thanks for this recipe!

Just saying the packaging can affect the flavor 😋 want proof drink an orange crush in a can then in a glass bottle. Nothing can replicate that hi c box flavor

Depends on how much you want to make. If you want, say, 10 cups of it, you’d use 8 cups of Tampico and 2 cups of Minute Maid
I haven't had Ecto-Cooler in decades (I'm 38) and tried the recipe today. I remember the original stuff being sweeter. Then again the original stuff was made from artificial flavor packets so that's probably why. Plus I used Minute Maid in a can instead of a bottle so maybe that played a part. The initial sip or two seemed thin but got thicker as I finished. I definitely remember Ecto-Cooler being a bit thick like a syrupy drink. 👍 I'd say as close as it can get but not quite it.

With just 6 grams of sugar tho? Because Tempico us REALLY light on the sugar. I guess the lemonade makes up for it.

Maybe it’s just me, but I just tried this and I must have done something wrong, because I don’t think it tastes like ecto-cooler.
Just a suggestion: try using a little less Tampico, like maybe 3 parts instead of 4. Personally I've found a little more lemonade doesn't hurt.

Tampico Citrus Punch is now gone from the shelves. Not to make Ecto Cooler, going to try their Mango punch.
Mango Punch is good. On previous attempts to make ecto cooler, I find using some Orange/Tangerine MIO helps.
It’s still available just about everywhere.

As mentioned, it's four parts Tampico to one part Minute Maid. Make as much or as little as you want. Should taste the same regardless, long as follow that.
And if it needs more juice...I will just pick some lemons from me backyard and squeeeeze the life outta em. This should be a fun experiment! ^

Just a relative measurement. So, for example...
4 cups Tampico = 1 cup lemonade
4 liters of Tampico = 1 liter of lemonade

"same" is a relative term. this is pretty damn close. Tampico and Minute Maid are both made by Coca-Cola...who is responsible for the original. This is quite literally as close as you're going to get to the formula as you possibly can.
why does everyone list these things in "parts" instead of ACTUAL FUCKING MEASUREMENTS!?
you can NOT call your recipe "easy" if you use fake measurements. I don't care what you say, if I have to do any math at all to figure out how your measurements from another planet translate into what measurements ACTUAL PEOPLE use, your recipe is NOT easy. try again, and use ACTUAL UNITS this time.
