    All of this season I was having trouble with a hard fade and not "crisping" the ball. The best tip I've received ever: Clay talks about rolling or bowing the left wrist on the downswing to close the face. I wondered how I could do that as it didn't look comfortable. I was wrong, it was very easy to do. I just went to the range and literally in the first five balls, I was hitting a slight draw with my pitching wedge. I took it to seven iron and then three wood and it was doing the same thing, hitting the sweet spot each time. That move allowed me to lead my left wrist and compress the ball. The driver was hitting low and straight but I wasn't getting the fade/slice that has plagued me this season. Only hit forty balls before the range closed but I was laughing the entire time. I'll work out the nuances over the next days. Thanks Clay!

    Clay, Clay, Clay! When I say that you're one of the most important people in my life, I am NOT kidding. Look both ways 3 times before crossing any street! :-) I've been watching your videos for about 3 years and been a subscriber to your website for over 1 year and you have transformed my game. I've made so much progress with all parts of my swings. I’m really pumped.
    Having said that, I'm struggling with one particular part that I think is the key to carrying my 7 iron 190 as opposed to the 165 I carry it now. I am really focused on having my hips opened at about 45 degrees and I feel like I am turning my hips, but when I view my swing on slo-motion video, I can see that my hips are open maybe 15-20 degrees. This is causing me to flip the club a little just before impact (I’m also having to come up out of my posture a little to compensate for this lack of turn). On the follow through, I do continue the hip turn but it’s not fast enough as my hands and shoulders get ahead of my hips causing the dreaded chicken wing with my lead arm.
    Do I need to slow my hands down? I don’t feel like I can turn my hips any faster than I already am. If I do slow my hands down a little, I’m thinking about the loss of distance this might cause. But then I also think about my hips being more open and my arms being extended and I figure this will give me back that perceived loss of distance and then some, as I’ll be delofting the club face that much more at impact. My head is full of so many thoughts. I guess it’s the excitement I feel at seeing my progress and I want to hurry up and get there. Thanks!

    I almost gave up playing golf. The sport I love but sucked at playing. When I came across Top Speed Golf with Mr. Clay Ballard on YT. With lots of patience and practice at the range. I became a better ball striker and player. I used to be amazed when my ex golf coach hit his 7 iron at 180+ yards at the range. Today, I'm hitting my 7 iron the same distance if not longer. Not too forget with an effortless swing. I have Mr. Ballard to thank for that. The BEST online golf coach ever! PERIOD!!

      Same for me, Mark. That's why I really like this video as at times I feel I'm working to develop two different swings, which is making life difficult for me. I love the idea of swinging the same way but just leaving a little weight back to promote the upwards strike on the driver. When I remember to do that my driving is really good and that's probably the weakest part of my game. Thanks for more great insights, Clay.

    Personally I feel 90% of achieving good shots is about club face interaction at impact, regardless of how you get there.
    The only thing swing mechanics/guidance may give is repeatability.
    Clay is one of my favourite teachers on u tube

  • @diatomaceousexudate42

    Good stuff. I'm consistently 300+ in the fairway off the tee, but I can't hit a 9 iron more than 100-110 yds. On most par 4's I'm driver-wedge in. But, for whatever reason, I just can't "de-loft" an iron. I ruin good drives all day long. If I had ANY approach game, I'd be a scratch golfer. It's incredibly frustrating..

    Clay, I went to the range for the first time this year and was working on shaft lean and squaring the face with rolling wrists. I worked through my irons and was hitting reasonably straight and good distance. I’m naturally drawing my irons some. I grabbed and driver and the slight draw became what would be a big time fairway miss almost a hook. How do I work with the natural draw on my irons but hit the driver straighter!? Thanks and love the videos. Only golf videos I watch. Great teaching skills

  • @chriss9509
    @chriss9509 Před 2 lety

    Looking at your side-to-side comparison, it appears that the "arm plane" between the two are pretty much the same. I always thought the driver should swing back on a shallower plane. I think I'm pulling the driver (and long irons) too far inside in an effort to shallow my arm plane.

    Do you play the Ping LST driver or the plus.. Im finally switching over from an M3 to the LST Ping because i just hit pings the best and get more loft out of a 9 head for some reason. Pings seem to have a higher launch and hotter face and forgiveness. Just need to figure out whether or not to move it down to 8 degrees and see if i can still get it up in the air enough. Judging by your swings with an 8 head it looks like pings don't get to stingy and low flight. Thanks man

    4:28 Confused. You say with the driver to move the weight to the inside of your front foot. But, in the slow-mo it shows your foot is off the ground at impact. Does the weight go to the toes then?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  Před 4 lety

      Clay's foot comes off the ground when is going for more power. This is from the force of his body opening up. It goes to the inside of the foot before that. If you watch his iron swing, his foot stays on the ground. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

  • @davidjohnson518
    @davidjohnson518 Před 4 lety +1

    Don’t really get one thing. If you envision the club head path as a circle (seen from above), why isn’t the club head starting back inside at contact when the bell is moved forward in your stance? I’ve never understood this and weaken my grip for the driver to prevent (?) this.

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  Před 4 lety

      Hi David, the hands are moving in as the club is moving out. It's kind of like a sling. As the club continues around, it starts to close. This is why a weak grip can help you to keep it from closing too much. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    • @davidjohnson518
      @davidjohnson518 Před 4 lety

      Exactly my point. The grip is weakened for the driver or for any club played more forward in your stance, an observation that Clay, for some reason, elects not to share.
