You have a very easy going, confidence building way about explaining what you're doing. I like that you show all the steps and mention potential issues and how to handle them. Very well done, Abe! Total thumbs up.
Thank you! I just gotta work on not making them SUPER LONG! xD
@@ArabianRider For what you were doing, I thought it was just fine. I didn't even realize how much time had gone by. You were concise and didn't flap your gums about things that weren't pertinent to what you were doing. Now, come here and work on my car.
Red Shoes Moment yeah if you want it to fall apart I’d love to come work on it!
Very well explained 👍. I've got over 20 years working on cars, this guide is excellent. Nice tips in there for the DIYer!
Cheers pal. Was just showing as this is such a common thing on Vauxhalls, most corsa owners being under 25 (mostly new drivers 17-21) so they never service their oil and end up with this issue 😂😂
Elsewhere I've seen it suggested that a 2mm bead of silicone sealant should be added to the joints between timing cover and cylinder head - is it a good idea to do that too? Great video, I've got to tackle this job soon and am happy to do it now.
Same. Probably best as a precaution i would imagine.
Thanks Mr Rider, a very clear, thorough and enjoyable video. I'll make a start in the morning.
Hey glad you found it helpful bro! Just make sure you watch many videos and everyone’s perspective as well
A very well explained video and glad you specified the socket sizes and tools needed.
Thanks for the video. It gave me the confidence to do my one.
Hey no worries, it’s a simple job as long as the bolts are in good shape and to be safe you can use a torque wrench. Those bolts are only about 8nm. Very easy to snap or strip the threads. I’m so glad you managed to do yours and find it easy. Soon enough you’ll be doing the thermostat or water pump 😂
Going to be doing mine either tomorrow or Saturday ( depending when the gasket arrives). Good video, feel confident to do it now 😊
How did it go? I’m replacing mine this Saturday.
@@jattdon11 easy! Did all the work within an hour, once the rocket cover was put back on the engine, I left the car over night then started it up the next day ( allowing the gasket sealer used on the timing chain cover to cure properly)
superb video very easy to follow thank you
Great tutorial, thanks, given me confidence to sort my Astra with the same issue.
Excellent video, very detailed and great explanation
Thank you so much Omer!
Thanks for the vid . I noticed yesterday a slight weep of oil from my 2010 astra . So gasket on its way .
that gaset looks newish, that's not the factory seal, thats a replacement as the factory one would be brittle by now.
I reckon it's a bad install, they didn't clean the sufraces and ponked it on top of dirt so it couldnt seal. Or they just didnt torque it down enough
@@yyouuttuubbee not a mechanic. but air coming out of oil filler cap is exchaust gases. head gasket gone. different issue.
Very helpful video, thank you
Do I need to disconnect the battery before doing this?
Well done mate. Need to do my bmw cover aswell 🤣
Tell me when and where I will charge up my phone and bring my torque wrenches so we can ignore them xD
This is my next job, my Corsa d was misfiring whilst driving I thought it was gonna cut out, when I took the 4 spark plugs out only 1 of them was covered in white carbon, I cleaned it and car was fine for a while BUT I did notice a little engine oil on the plug not sure how that got in there but watching this and other videos it looks like I’m gonna have to replace my valve gasket. I’m an amateur car enthusiast done loads to my car, hardest job I did was last year serpentine belt, had to remove engine mount and VERY hard getting belt off and on again
My next job is this valve gasket
Great vid, thanks
Just changed the oil pressure switch on mine and now it appears to be leaking from the rocker cover down onto the alternator. Also got a stripped sump bolt so a simple job has turned into a night mare
This is a very detailed video! I currently have a gasket leak that needs to be done - the only experience I have is changing my own spark plugs. Is there anything else I need to know before I go ahead?
Just looking to do the gasket change now; you're video is excellent. In my Haynes, before refitting the cover it says to apply a 2mm bead of silicone sealant in the joint between timing cover and cylinder head - there is a groove either side of the timing chain - but I've not seen this done in yours or any other video of this work that I've viewed. Is it not necessary?
Maybe the gasket was installed incorrectly, or the bolts were over-tightened not through spec.
I have also never seen a head gasket leak, if the gasket looks like this
Don’t you put any gasket silicone seal on it?
Yep I have same question ? 😆
If not changed will this cause smoke in between the oil filter and the engine ie, left side of the filter ??
This is just mainly for leaking out of the engine, if you have leaking out of the engine you can send me a video on Instagram or photo. It can cause some smoke if it gets on exhaust
@@ArabianRider i dont use insta . What iv done is uploaded to my shorts . Thanks
Have you any idea what nm number you tighten bolts too thanks.
Hey man, no idea I just tightened it using experience 😂
8nm
@@gandhi1078 thanks mate
Would this fix the timing chain noise on startup?
No , some ticking from the chain is normal as it's a chain. But if it gets worse you need a new timing chain
