    I’m an esthetician who specializes in acne. Many of my clients have hormonal issues. I typically hear “I have a healthy diet, idk what I’m doing wrong”, and I think there is so much pressure on women to “fix” their hormones. Sometimes things like oral medication, Spironolactone, can be a game changer. I’m grateful there are medications that can alleviate hormonal acne. To everyone suffering from hormonal acne, never forget how beautiful and special you are, and your acne is not your fault 💖

      Whether it’s acne caused by PCOS or stress etc., people can use benzoyl peroxide, retinoid, SA, request prescription medications etc. There isn’t really a need for a separate celebrity skincare line dedicated for PCOS. People affected by PCOS are not barred from using the current anti-acne active ingredients out there simply because it’s not marketed as for PCOS.

      You can have PCOS despite having normal hormone levels. She’s wrong in this video. I know because I thought I had it for quite a while, and had many OBGYNs consults. You need 2/3 symptoms to be diagnosed with PCOS: irregular periods, polycystic ovaries and abnormal hormone levels. Not everyone with abnormal hormone levels produces excess testosterone either, some have other issues. PCOS is very complicated and you can have it despite no hormonal acne, a normal bodyweight and no hisurtism (excess or thinning body hair). Not saying you do have it, just putting this outthere in case someone is wondering

    I dealt with very similar issues in my mid 30's. I became so desperate that I went to see an acupuncture therapist and the rest is history💯. The cystic acne and dark spots that I'd been fighting for over a year cleared up completely🙌🏽. From a TCM perspective sometimes these issues can arise from what is described as "internal heat and dampness" in one's body. These conditions are caused by a number of different factors the main ones being stress, overworked liver, sluggish bowels, and holding onto negative emotions amongst other things. I thought that my issues were from some outside source e.g. dirty cell phone, hands touching my face, hair etc. And so I tried so many soaps, and creams, and face brushes etc. Only to learn that what showed up on my face was just a reflection of something that was going on inside of my body. I highly recommend drinking fresh squeezed lemon juice 1st thing every morning, followed by boiling hot water (please allow the water to cool and sip hot). Fresh flat leaf Parsley Tea is also good for acne (4 days a week in the morning before breakfast) as well.

    I found out I had PCOS when I was 23 years old. What helped me was taking birth control (estrogen and progestin), probiotics (plant based yogurt), laser hair removal for my face, and the Zitsticka skin discipline capsules. Other miscellaneous things that helped me were diet changes such as removing dairy products (only plant based milk), removing red meat, gluten free bread/cereal/oatmeal, natural sugar sources (fruit), and clean beauty nontoxic skincare/makeup.

      i am the same way. something that really fucked me over in the long term was the “non toxic” skin care routine idea. the only thing that is “toxic”, and not good for us, is fragrance, alcohols, and comedogenic ingredients. seed oils and essential oils are NOT good for the skin either. they are still frangrance, even though the skin recognizes the frangrance is natural, it still is sensitizing and irratating to the skin. i for a long time thought retinols were toxic. only because i was miseducated. learning the facts helped heal my skin

    Tip 1: to try: Stop drying your face with washcloths and towels. Use a clean paper towel each use. Clean Towel club is too expensive for my wallet so I use Kleenex paper Towels and they come in a cute box. I have also used bounty paper towels and it worked great as well. Tip 2: Use a great foam cleanser. Ava Estelle is my favorite. It does not over dry or have too much oil. I used Clean and Clear and Neutrogena Foam Cleansers but it overdried and scarred my face.

I still get one or two cystic zit on my back but I use benzyl peroxide for that. The only other thing I am using is Tretinoin 0.5%. Spironolactone causes me abdominal pain and having an inherited blood disorder I can't get on estrogen therapy. I was taking a small dose of Naltrexone everyday for my cramps but after starting Ovasitol I don't need that anymore. If anyone comes across my post please talk to your doctor about Ovasitol and maybe it will give you the relief you are hoping for.

    @Dr Alexis Stephens for 2 years I’ve been asking my daughters endocrinologist to try my daughter on Yaz or an Ortho birth control but she keeps giving her Junel and she doesn’t like the pills. When she misses a dose or two and have to double up and take them the same time the day she remembers, she still bleeds and have cramping. Last week we visited and my daughter asked if she could change doctors because she’s not listening to her.

    Hi! I've been suffering acne since I was 13. It's okay now, not active, but I would still get back acne(cystic sometimes)and chin acne. I have oily acne prone skin. I am 41. I have been to different dermatologist. How do I find a doctor to check my hormones? No derma ever recommended to check my hormones.

    • @869ofuncertainty
      @869ofuncertainty Před 2 lety +1

      She suggests checking with your OBGYN. If you think it's hormone related they might be better able to to discuss that. If you have a Primary Care Physician the should do routine blood work when you see them. You can also request checking your hormone levels then. I hope this helps.

    • @NovitaSari-pi5mb
      @NovitaSari-pi5mb Před 2 lety +3

      You can go to obgyn. I did it and the doctor gave me Yaz (birth control pill) to push down my testosterone hormone. Before I consumed it, my testosterone level about 144 and after I consumed it for 3 months, my testosterone level went down to 11 (the normal range is 7-14 if I'm not mistaken). The effect to my skin is unbelievable. No more acne, smooth skin, no pain when I'm in period. However after consumed it for 4 years, I stopped it because Yaz is so expensive in my country (Indonesia). The transition is not fun, but slowly but sure... my skin is good again. It takes patience, especially to your ownself on that process.

    Cetaphil doesn’t work on me. I wash my face with raw honey mixed with Palmer’s oil cleanser, and I use Palmer’s moisturizer. My face is so clear and glowing. My dark spots have cleared up too. It also controls my super oily skin from being so oily throughout the day. I also use raw honey alone as a 5-10 minute face mask.

    Dr. Alexis, YOU'RE SUCH A LIGHT, I know the work that goes into these videos,... but if at ANY TIME you could share your thoughts on Laser Hair removal vs Electrolysis and what the actual truth is about "permanente hair removal" solutions.... i'd be soooooo grateful. I'm still SO confused as to if it's even really permanente. No one seems to tell the truth about Excessive Facial Hair, Excessive Hair on the breats and what can be done or what SHOULD be done. Most states don't require a certificate,... I had NO CLUE laser would INCREASE my hair growth after "clearing" it... I was DEVASTAED. I was told exfoliation isn't good for facial hair, others say it works, but I had to stop when beginning Electrolysis... everytime i find something, there's a caveat. Please help.

      @jennavandermerwe8307 Před 2 lety +2

      Laser hair removal is not ideal for women with PCOS or hair growth that is being influenced by abnormal hormonal activity. I’m certified in laser hair removal and I can tell you it’s “permanent hair reduction”, which means you will always have hair growth. But, it will be much thinner and less hair than untreated skin. I would recommend speaking to your dermatologist about treatment options 💖

    Hello! Do you think it’s okay to use products from different skincare brands or do you think it’s best to stick to one skincare brand? I’m so tired of my hormonal acne… i was on Spiralactone and it cleared up my acne but my dermatologist took me off of it after a few months, she said she can’t have me on it long term. Do you think I can get back on it? Or do I need to look into birth control for acne control? Im afraid of gaining weight on birth control is all.

    Thank you for this helpful video. Unfortunately the journey to clear, blemish free skin is often long and unpredictable and there are no guarantees. That’s why I believe it’s super important that if embarrassment or depression start to be a daily occurrence, we need to pointedly prioritise our emotional health as well as our skin health. Take great care ladies and know beautiful inside and out.
