Your comment about installing a heavy duty front axle jogged my memory. We used to have a 3020 JD at a job I was working on back in the day. The owner purchased a front end loader kit for it and it came with an upgraded solid front axle to take the extra weight that loader use would subject it to. After we installed everything on the tractor it brought out another weakness. When the tractor was being used in soft ground with the bucket full, it would constantly shear the woodruff keys on the top of the spindles where the steering arms were attached. We tried using keys made out of harder grade steel but then those just began to wear out the key ways in the spindle legs. We finally had to tack weld the steering arms at the top of the spindle legs with 1/2" long beads in 4 places evenly spaced around the circumference. Something that you may want to be aware of because when they let loose it lets the front wheels kick sideways and plow into the ground bringing the tractor to a sudden halt. When it happened the first time it threw the operator forward so violently he broke the steering wheel and several ribs.

My son has a 3010 diesel but the motor is bad. We are thinking of putting a 329 out a of a combine in it. I guess they bolt up with the plate from a 4030. The hood would need extended though. Not sure how your 3020 power shift rear would hold up to 6 cyl motor. Just so you know, a 4000 has 3020 size axles but the rest of the rear end and transmission are pretty much the same as a 4020. I believe there is no syncronizers on reverse but thats about the only difference.
Ive made transmissions for pulling tractors from 3010 to 4430 and have had them side by side so ive been able to compare. The countershaft on a 3020 is pretty small where the bearings fit on. A 3010 is even smaller.

3020, 4000, 4020 - powershift unit (packs - all parts that make up main parts of transmission) are all same part #'s .... we sold that 3020 and just bought a 4020 instead

Digging your videos, keep up the good work. What’s so special about the m&w turbo? Can’t a adapter plate be made to bolt a aftermarket turbo on?

Thank you very much ! ..... The M&W turbo is just a RaJa .. whats special is the exhaust manifold and the water neck wedge .. I have a manifold ordered (got lucky and found one) ... There isnt much space on a 3020 - hard to fit it all in there! ... I will do a video of how this all fits together - stay tuned and i'll explain it all on a video ..

much cheaper and better to install a 300 series engine, a 4-276 will give the extra HP with out the nightmares. Change the bellcrank from a 4030 and few other small things that are not too expensive. Ask "Buick and Deere" on the JD forum on Yesterdays Tractors.

John Deere offered a "reman" kit for the 3020 tractor, the kit utilized the 239 engine - and was rated at 85 horsepower.... besides a lack or horsepower, I am not sure of what "nightmare" you are referring to on the 3020 engine....

@@Blackearthexcavationandtiling My sons one 3010 had a turbo and its the one with a bad motor. It seems they like to spin bearings with the turbo. He did put the turbo on his other 3010 for a while and he tried to pull a 3 point 4 bottom 14" plow and it pulled it fine but it would get hot and eventually blew the head gasket. He took it off now. He still has the manifold for it. I think one problem is you can only have one remote valve with the turbo manifold because it hits the second hydraulic valve.
