      Hi there, David! Welcome all the way from Oz! I do keep an air stone and plants with them, my friend. I don't, however, keep a filter with them as this creates too much water current and their food disappears to rapidly for them to have a chance at eating. I do believe in mulm but not in the way you are saying. very informative! hello again, just wanted to ask how to prevent GBR fry from dying, the spawn I had was a hundred and fifty and now down to only a fifty, some fry will stay at the side and wont swim, when they started free swimming they started to die one by one, I've given hardboiled egg yolks and performed 50% water change everyday, just wanted to ask maybe you have some tips on preventing them from dying, it's my first time and I noticed when the lights are on they're not swimming but when I turn off the lights, they started swimming, does lighting have any effect on them? please help, sorry for the long comment thanks as always for the informative video!

    • @JustinsFishRoom
      @JustinsFishRoom  Před 2 lety

      Hi there! Thank you for your interesting points.
      The short answer is that I have never seen a difference in fry behaviour depending on lighting but this is probably because my light isn't very bright.
      You seem to be doing everything else correctly. Do you use community fish tank water for the water changes? Also, do you make sure to clean out the old egg yolk from their container using a pipette? This is crucial to prevent spikes in ammonia.

    hello, just wanna ask what to do when you saw fry dying on the second day of free swimming? should I remove them and perform a water change after? or no to water change? what are the reasons of dying fry, thanks!

    • @JustinsFishRoom
      @JustinsFishRoom  Před 2 lety

      This is an excellent question! I am glad you asked. I would take all the dead fry out and immediately do at least a 50% water change.
      The reasons for fry dying include the following:
      1. Your water is too cold (fry die from inactivity and not eating)
      2. Too much ammonia in the water (Fry die due to their gills becoming burnt by the ammonia in the water)
      3. Too much organic matter in the water (Fry get caught in this and die)
      4. Fry can die easily with a sudden change in light, temp (from water change, or food etc.)
      I hope this helps you and let me know if I can help further:)

    Your not sharing how you water change or take a life not losing fry with water changes..I’m always scared to change water with fry of any sort, this is where I don’t do the right thing for fry growth. Another question is when adding ground to powder DRP fish food or micro worm, how do I avoid the accumulation of the foods where some fry may get stuck in etc (if you know what I mean) there often seems to be micro fluffy debri x food remnants in holder.
    Do you use a bubbler In this containers or bowls or is it just the bowl of water and no aeration ? Thanks
