Melo is a Knick.
He wanted out of Denver.
Denver has 0 obligations to retire his jersey.
“I never make it personal with athletes” - Stephan A smith
“LONZO I HAVE YOUR MEDICAL INFO AND KNOW YOUR DOCTOR IM NOT LYING”
This after lonzo confronted his lie about not being able to sit down.
He's barely a knick
Couldn't disagree more strongly, Melo had his best years in Denver. The Knicks did squat in his years there. And it's not a question of obligation. Melo completely turned the Nuggets franchise around from a perennial garbage team into regular winning and playoffs every year. He handled the trade situation with class and by going via trade instead of free agency the Nuggets got a huge haul from the Knicks including a draft pick that became Jamal Murray. The Nuggets owners have been petty. They should have kept the #15 so they could retire Melo's number and given Jokic another number so his jersey could eventually join Melo's in the rafters here.
@@tompratt7125doesn’t change the fact that his best years resulted in getting bounced out. He forced his way out of Denver with that terrible trade.
@tompratt7125 going to the playoffs and his best years didn't mean anything to Melo. That's why he wanted out of Denver. Staying in Denver didn't matter to melo why would retiring his # in Denver matter?
Chauncey Billups said it best about Melo - "...he could have games where he had 20, 22 [points], we win the game, and he’s mad. He might have 36, and he’s in there, you know, we lose the game, and he’s in there picking everybody up. Scoring 30 meant too much." Melo is remembered as one of the greatest scorers, Jokic will be remembered as a 2-time MVP and a CHAMPION.

1) Melo wanted out of Denver.

I have been a Nuggets fan all my life and when Melo was drafted, I cheered even more, because Carmelo was a Great player. But when he forced his way out of Denver, I was upset and the fan base didn't appreciate his actions. But now, with that being said, NIKOLA JOKIC will go down as the greatest Nuggets player of all time. He is a walking Legend in his prime. Dude, i definitely didnt expect Nuggets thuggets to win back then. Fun team to watch, but they were going up against prime Spurs, Suns and Lakers with Kobe. I was born and raised in Denver,Co and Melo was the reason I even got into watching basketball. He made the Nuggets fun to watch and became my favorite player. With that said, the way he left Denver left a sour taste in fans and the organizations mouths. He did a lot for the Nuggets, but to make Jokic change numbers isnt fair to Jokic. Melo was a good player, but Jokic is a great player. I think if Melo left denver in better terms we wouldnt even be having this arguement. The way Melo left he did it in a way where it felt like idgaf i just want out mentality. So to see him crying now about not retiring his jersey is kinda funny to me. He should just focus on having the Knicks retire his jersey, because the Nuggets wont be doing it lol
If you seen the actual video, he’s not crying. He felt a way once Jokic came on the court wearing 15 in general. It’s more about the organization having a nasty taste in their mouth compared to Jokic. Imagine a Magic player wearing 12 and that person going and winning a chip and two mvps and now you can’t retire Dwights jersey. That’s crazy. But look at that roster tho, no matter how bad of an organization the Magic is, nobody wears 12. That’s my point.
@@Rugbyrug Denver was under no obligation to put #15 on ice for a player who was still in the prime of his career when they drafted Jokic, never wore the number again, and was Jokic's number when he was in Serbia. Melo, once again, making all about him instead of the team.
Yep unless you won some chips and left on good terms, there's literally no reason your old number should be reserved or even considered for retirement when you leave at age 28-29 in the middle of your career
@@Rugbyrug I feel bad for the guy bcuz he was once my favorite player. Its a hard arguement bcuz Melo did do a lot for the Nuggets. But the org had no obligation to hold his number when he was still in his prime playing in NY. Also nobody ever thought a 41st pick would do what hes doing so this is a crazy situation to happen in the first place. I wouldnt even be mad if when Jokic retires the Nuggets retire them both. Melos 15 in the Sky Blue color and Jokic with the Current colors. That would be a win/win.
@@Rugbyrugnah, no one would have thought Jokic when he was drafted would be this good. If Jokic was a scrub while wearing 15, we wouldn't even have this issue. But then Jokic became the player he is today. Melo is barking at the wrong tree. He has no one to blame or maybe if he wants to blame something, which is himself when he left Denver.
Jokic is real 15! There is no question.
Melo should be thankful that Jokic let him borrow the number before he arrived.
Best comment ever! Anthony should be honored to share a jersey with Jokic.

Facts 💯
Nobody thought Jokic was going to turn into the player that he is tho…..the Nuggets weren’t thinking that deep into it at the time to be petty
It was because Jokic was a nobody that makes it even more petty, Melo has a point but Denver shouldn't retire his number anyways
@@CyrogenicNationwhy it's not like he attends the games
@@CyrogenicNation There wasn't a single thing petty about it. Melo left 4.5 years earlier, he was still in the prime of his career, never wore the number again, and Jokic had that number when he played in Serbia, so Denver obliged him. Melo's the one being petty, conspiratorial, and self-centered here.
@@CyrogenicNation Not petty at all, Melo left and was in the middle of his career. Nobody was thinking about a number "belonging" to a former player, he left and it was an available number. He didn't do anything worth anybody even remembering "That was Melo's number", it's not like Jordan or LeBron with the 23 and 6, or Duncan and Garnett with 21. I forgot he ever wore a number besides 7. Once Melo left it was just another number in circulation, and Jokic did greater things with it than Melo.

Yeah it's really feminine for Melo to vocally be acting like this over an old number going to someone else, who happened to do better things with it. That's like if Melo owned a house/property he got tired of, sold it and moved to a penthouse in New York, then Jokic comes along and buys the house/property and upgrades it and then Melo comes crying about how it's not fair Jokic made the property look so good and says he wants his old house back

You were very accurate on your comment. I just think that even retiring Anthony's Jersey is insulting to Jokic.
@thiagomennabarretoguedes2835 they have to do something for Melo to acknowledge what he did for the franchise. It's not all about chips. The Nuggets retired jersey for Alex English and Mutumbo. Neither of them have MVPs or chips.
All Melo had to do was show some love and the organization would've returned the respect. But I haven't heard him say one appreciative thing about his time in Denver since leaving. K-Mart, J.R, Chauncey, Nene, Birdman, Iverson, Camby, and pretty much every other player has shown gratitude about their time on the Nuggets even if they weren't drafted here or if they experience more success elsewhere.
Also, Nuggets brought back the same team after the WCF and they lost in the first round against Utah, whose most notable player was Milsap. And still had that team the year of the trade. Martin and Chauncey were older and declining, but the team had brought in 2 young promising players in Lawson and Afflalo. What exactly did Melo want the team to do? It's not the team's fault that the West is so loaded and usually had to face a 60 win team led by an MVP right away in the first round despite Nuggets winning over 50 games.
They are all All time Nuggets Legends. KMart,JR,Chauncey,Nene,Iverson,Camby we always cheer for them, always give them applaused every time they go to the games. We give love to the ones who gives us love back. We give love and expect love back and reply with even more love.

I don't think they were trying to intentionally erase Melo's legacy in Denver, Jokic was a second-round pick if he was your normal second-round caliber player this would never be a conversation, he just happened to become a great franchise player and just happened to have Melo's number. If Jokic was a number 1 pick and they gave him that number then yeah Melo would have a valid argument.

This is such a disrespect for the 2x nba mvp and nba champ Joker. What did CaramelMarshmallow gave the Nuggets? Nothing but a lot of drama ang for being a big primadonna. Remember, he forced his way out of the team, to the Knicks
The truth is as a black man that’s been a Nuggets fan, his whole life. We love Carmelo, Anthony, and he marry Lala, and then we started hearing the rumors how he didn’t want to be here and he was pushing his way out so he can go to. New York, which made no sense to the fans of the Nuggets because the team was doing everything they could to put good players around. He wanted to go play in the east where it was going to be easier to get to the finals and still never made it. Carmelo would’ve won one championship in New York. He would’ve never cared about hanging his jersey in Denver, but now hanging jerseys is what his legacy is. You pushed your way out don’t push your way back in. Retire a Knick with hundreds of millions of dollars.

Imagine a timeline with Melo and Jokic on the same team.
Who wearing 15 🤔
Can't imagine their games working together. One of the greatest in isolation with one the greatest at using team movement?
Melo doesn't play Jokic ball. I'm glad we don't have inefficient shot chuckers on the Nuggets.
@@PlanetOfTheApes999 In a timeline where Jokic was on the team first I would hope he's able to get Melo to buy in. But yeah the Melo we know, no chance
Melo would have gotten traded for not meshing with Jokic's game
"You ain't humping up and down with them" GOD DAMN Stephen A 😂😂😂
Shannon and Arenas explained this issue perfectly well. How were the Nuggets supposed to know that a 2nd round pick like the 41st pick is going to do twice as better as what Melo was really. Melo is just being salty AF!!!
Very not on topic...but the video quality is amazing. You can really tell that you've put effort into the production of the podcast and it looks 10/10. Also guessing the upload is in 60FPS :)
But him forcing his way out is the only reason they were able to get all those draft picks and players
Denver fans ain’t seeing how he really blessed them by asking out smh 🤦🏾♂️
@@Swaggmusik1 good point, I think instead of Melo saying that Denver purposely had a vendetta by giving #15 to somebody as his pitch to get his number retired, he should be trying to tell people that he left as part of a big plan to help Denver win a championship because he could see the future
Stephen a picking up from where Shannon left off from with the great content🔥
When they drafted Jokic, nobody saw how great he'd become. There was no reason not to give him a known number. Also, Melo's a Knick, not a Nugget.
Jokic is what Bird/Magic was in the 80s. A generational talent and will go down as one of the 10-15 greatest to ever play the game
I love Melo, but he isnt even in the top 50
You'll never go personal. 😂😂😂 Steven A funnier than Dave Chappelle with that line.. 😂😂😂
Man, you are personal everyday and twice on sundays.
I just wish he would have said something when they gave Anthony Rudolph # 15 before Jokic had it 😂😂
Carmelo had 2.7 assists per game. Him and Kobe were GREAT for the 12 for 27 games, and three assists. He didn't win squat, for a reason.
lol carmelo sounding petty asf
Sorry Melo! Jokic is already the greatest Nugget with that championship, asides even the stats and accolades. Alex English is 2nd… Joker is chasing All-time status, at least for the Center position and he’s the first legit Center to challenge that magnificent 5-6 Centers-Hakeem, Bill, Wilt, Kareem, Moses Malone, and Shaq- Jokic is already at par, if not ahead of Robinson and Ewing.
Nuggets all time starting 5 - Thompson-English-Melo-Issel-Jokic
Alex English was a loser as a nugget if it's about winning melo is 2nd mutumbo 3rd English 4th or 5th depends on where you place Murray
English got out of the first round more than Melo did. Try again.
@@sawyeral he had the same career as melo did with the nuggets except English he won a scoring title try again
@vostboymedia English shot over 50% for his career. Melo was under 45%. All melo could do was score, and he still wasn’t as good a scorer as #2. I watched both as a Denver fan and English was better.
@@sawyeral I don't think so but whatever man you just explained it Denver fans don't like melo because he didn't want to stay for the rebuild.
You got personal with Kwame Brown!!!
I remember crying when my pistons didn’t pick him I was in shock for over a week It just didn’t make any sense at all to me the pistons don’t deserve to be good anymore we draft horrible players have since we are still rebuilding and it’s been 20 years of it I’m sick of it I turn them off this year I’m 36 I don’t have time to waste on this team
They aren’t the same caliber of player. Melo gotta 🤫
Carmelo actually did more with less. Denver was a playoff exit without Murray they giving jokic all credit when he has a team. Jokic is still an all star but lets not act like melo never gave denver something. This the same thing they did with curry when they won pick one player and praise now look how they do curry now
Hahaha. You sound bitter. One western conference finals participation. Melo is not a team player, that’s the reason he won nothing. To be a great, you need to lead a team.
The Lebron commentary is spot on. Thanks for your content SAS!
Great Take Stephen A 👏
What did Melo even do?
All I’ll say is melo has a worse resume in Denver than Tatum already has in Boston. If Tatum retired or left the team today, they aren’t retiring his number.
Every team is different.. and Denver ain't no Boston in terms of what gets your jersey retired. So that ain't a good comparison
@@adrianpheiffer9960 probably not the best comparison lol but still. Melo a first ballot HOFer though I mean no disrespect. Toronto didn’t retire Bosh’s number.
Fat Lever and Mutumbo have their jerseys retired for the Nuggets. Melo had a much better Nuggets career than both - during an era where the West was a nightmare. Retire both 15s. Give melo a sky blue banner to match the jersey from that era.
Jokic is already the greatest Nugget ever. There should be no drama.
Tangentially.
Steven, how do you feel about competing on a platform that increasingly is going IA?
Will you produce a SAS IA ?
We don’t have to compare Jokic and Melo. Carmelo did enough for the Denver Nuggets to have a jersey retirement ceremony for him. Idk why Jokic even took that number.
He wore 15 back home in Serbia
What Melo did? Lose in 1st round? Be a menace to the team off court? force his way out?. Win no awards? achieve nothing? We do retirement for mediocrity now? No wonder the NBA hall of fame is a joke
