    Great video! Thank you. I've owned my car since brand new in 2009 and this was the first time I did this job myself. Easy! And the last guy who changed my oil put a regular washer that was too small on my oil plug! So I put the correct one on there now. I've paid up to $139 for this in other places. Cost me around $85 for oil and filter kit plus two trips to shop to buy/turn in used oil. Plus of course it's a messy job. So...it's a good job to do yourself, but also worth it to pay someone else if you'd rather avoid the mess.

      Replying to an old comment so you've probably dealt with it by now, but the timing chain on these ones are always something to look out for, needs replacing well below what BMW recommends - probably at 50k miles instead of the 80-140 they recommend

  • @tulleyjim8358
    @tulleyjim8358 Před 6 lety +3

    Am wondering, why you not clean the oil filter Cap holder? You cleaned drain plug. And I assume you inspected it for any metal shaving?
    Just wonder because of thinking you spread old contaminant into new oil.
    Is it because filter inside of cap is on top of the engine and not on bottom?

      @@twitchingwithrage4683 bmw approved only means they get a kick back when that oil is purchased after 26 years of owning e46s, currently I have 5, I can tell you that’s is the worst oil you can buy, when you service a bmw e46,,, 7 times a year like I do then you will notice the difference.... my current tourer on 279k miles ive serviced this 16 times

      no, many other brands are approved on the BMW oil list. You just have to make sure that they have the correct specs. LL-01 SPEC IS IMPORTANT!

    To all bmw owners, do not change the oil yourself just by watching a youtube video if you have no experience on bmw cars. You can seriously mess up your car.. these videos are for people with experience that actually work on cars.

      You can also seriously mess up your car by taking it to a dealership/workshop that takes shortcuts and cons people that aren't knowledgeable about their own cars.

      Stealership quoted me 1600 dollars for brake pads and rotors. Got all new pads and rear rotors for $75.....stealership said the front brake pads were in bad shape. Looked at the and 60% of the pad was still left. 2 years ago and still good
