    Question -Do you own 6.2 or 3.0 Duramax. Which one is better?
    #zr2 #chevysilverado #truck
    About this video:
    GM has a few full-size half-ton offroad options available in their Chevrolet and GMC brands. However, it can be a little confusing as there are off-road packages like the Z71 and X31 that can be added to many trims of Chevys and GMCs respectively. Not to be confused with the different off-road specific trims available like the Trail Boss, ZR2, AT4 , and AT4X. Today I'll be covering the Chevy Silverado 1500 (GMC Sierra 1500) in the Trail Boss 6.2L V8 and ZR2 3.0L Duramax diesel trims. I'll break down what Z71 is compared to the Trail Boss and ZR2 and I'll cover the different engine options along with other key differences to help you decide which one is right for you.

    23’ ZR2 owner with 17k on the dash. No issue. Ever. I work as a mobile nurse so I travel 80-90 miles a day and I turn off and start my truck 7-8 times a day. Michigan weather throws everything at it. I had no other choice but the 6.2 or else I may have opted to get that baby duramax. Depends on how I drive the 6.2 but I’d say you aren’t getting much favors from the ZR2 stance. Badass looking but I’ve averaged 16.5 with plenty of pulls here and there. Overall it’s been a great family truck/work truck and overall badass daily.

    Thanks for the video. I bought a ZR2 with a Duramax yesterday. I drove it around town for about 50 miles, and the gas mileage is unbelievable! Just driving around town I was already above 20 mpg, and I do a lot of highway driving, so I can only imagine what the mpg and range will be like. The guys at the dealership even mentioned that some ZR2 owners are trading in their 6.2 for the Duramax. So thanks again for the info because it really helped me make a good decision 🎉

    On Friday, 5/3/2024, I bought a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss w/3.0l Duramax, and while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles(my 2020 GMC 3500HD AT4 does), it has enough of them to make it a really nice truck...
    There are 2 things that I will miss on this new truck that my 2020 has, and those would be the rearview mirror camera, and the HUD, other than that, not so much anything else...
    I feel fortunate to have found it, there's NOTHING out there right now, especially ZR2's...

    • @MOHAWKAUTO
      @MOHAWKAUTO  Před 3 měsíci

      From what I’ve read, the hurricane will have more horsepower, but less torque. However, the hurricane is replacing the V8 as their high end engine option so it would be more fair to compare it to the 6.2 from GM. That comparison shows the 6.2 having more horsepower and similar torque.

    Honestly I’d go with the 6.2l no matter what (the aftermarket has tons of proven upgrades for power and reliability. And sounds insane with a cam and borla exhaust!) mainly because I like the 18” deep dish trail boss wheels, and the dssv is kinda meh compared to a full fox coilover lift. And I’d also rather the 2020 model year style (how many model years was YOUR EXACT style available??) Not quite sure of the price discrepancies, but I would take the newest model year, lowest mileage 6.2l trail boss lt I can find (with your fascia, again not quite sure how many model years it went for…2 maybe 3? 20,21,22, maybe 23? I dunno when the “refresh/updated styling came into play, but I want the old one like yours. And the money I save vs buying a 2024 z r2 mini max….id do an intake/exhaust/tune to my 6.2l AND full fox coilover lift with UCA’s and hydro bump stops…for the same money or less!

    • @MOHAWKAUTO
      @MOHAWKAUTO  Před 2 měsíci

      Trail boss wheels aren’t normally deep dish. Of course there’s a lot of performance upgrades you can get for the 6.2l which is awesome for those with the money and inclination to do so. A lot of them are still going for the mid 50k range though. Also, my buddy looked at doing something similar to what you’re suggesting as was quoted 11.5k to have it done. That gives you a good lift and tires, but not the manual lockers and no front locker. That may not be of importance to you, but to get that would be pretty expensive. You’d be better off getting a used ZR2 with the 6.2L and then doing suspension if you wanted to get the manual lockers. However, you’d lose the front end look it sounds like you’re going for. The DSSV is unmatched. Calling Fox, King, Bilstein and they all say they have nothing better to offer for stock setup. It would be difficult to say that a suspension conversion is “better” would be subjective to what you’re trying to accomplish. Because the DSSV is so damn good, I’m hesitant to modify the suspension in any way that eliminates it.

    Seems like you’re trying to justify your 3.0 since you got it for a good price, but that’s why you got it for a good price, because it’s a 3.0 and not a 6.2.
    Be realistic, nobody buys a truck caring about gas mileage - if you care about gas mileage, get a sedan.
    I would only go with the ZR2 if I’m keeping everything stock and not planning on making any mods to the suspension, lift, etc. because that’s where the extra cost is on the ZR2. And if you’re going with the ZR2, get the 6.2.
    Your boy’s Trail Boss is way better!

    • @MOHAWKAUTO
      @MOHAWKAUTO  Před měsícem

      Cool! Seems like you’re the kind of guy who says “Look how big my … engine is.” like it’s an indicator of something. I’ve also said that you don’t get a truck for the purpose of getting good fuel economy. However, if you could get one that had that ability, wouldn’t you like to have it? Be realistic, I’ve never heard anyone say, “I want whatever gets the worst fuel economy.”, have you? The 3.0 isn’t why I got it for a good deal and from what I’ve seen, the diesels are outselling the 6.2. I’m not trying to justify my 3.0, but I also don’t need the 6.2 (nor am I willing to pay more upfront and in long term ownership because of fuel costs) and a lot of other consumers feel the same way. The 6.2 is great, but for me, the 3.0 is better. What are you driving by the way?

      You forgot about the manually locking differentials, different bumpers, skid plates, etc., but that’s cool. You like the Raptor? Neat! It’s an awesome truck and I like them. However, it could also be said that it’s a disappointment compared to the TRX. It all comes down to what you’re looking to get. For me, the price point that I paid for a brand new ZR2 and the added benefit of excellent fuel economy makes it the better choice than a Raptor or TRX.
